What Sonic Game Would You Like To Be Remade?

I really like how you bring up a completely irrelevant game every time anyone so much as hints on features vaugely similar to the shittier games. It's particularly amusing here because the poster here specifically mentioned Sonic 2.

That's essentially what he's describing, though admittedly I was basing it off of the last time he made that post.

I'd like a game where they link together the levels and plots of Sonic 2 GG, Sonic Chaos, Sonic Triple Trouble and the Game Gear exclusive Sonic 1 levels (Bridge, Jungle, Sky Base) into one coherent plot, updated in high quality, completely recreated visuals that are at the very least on par with NSMB Wii and Wario Land: Shake Dimension, with dozens of new features, Sonic Adventure style optional missions, and other playable characters (Tails, Knuckles... Fang and Eggman?) who do the levels differently and in a different order. Plus updated physics to be AT LEAST as fast, accurate and high in framerate as the Genesis games.

The Game Gear games really did have potential, and you can see it gleaming through, but it's all pretty much ruined by the system's limitations - the crappy proccessor, the low framerate, abysmal sound chip and poor graphics and physics. You can really see that the level concepts had the potential to be as good if not better than the Genesis titles, and I'd like to see that potential reached.

Abysmal sound chip? Even in it's 8-bit bleepiness, Sonic 2 had one of the most glorious Sonic soundtracks in history. D=

But yeah, I would like that idea, with all the ranks/missions etc too.

That's what I'm getting at - they tried to play good tunes through a tinny piece of shit. Imagine orchestrated, or better, YM2612 synthesised reimaginings of Game Gear Sonic songs.

I was thinking adding trick systems and grind features would bring more oppurtunities and fun factor to Sonic 2. Besides, those are staples in the series.

Sonic CD.

Please, especially since the "Final Boss" was a absolute joke. And I wanna know if final fever really was a supposed "Final Zone".

Pah, I'd still be happy enough with a Tails Adventure remake :)

"Review: This game sucks, hub worlds, adventuring, no actual game play D:<"

But In all seriousness, I wouldn't mind a Tails Adventure remake, as a matter of fact...I welcome it. The only problem is that people are gonna bitch and moan about adventuring :\

Shadow, although I personally like the game, I won't lie saying that the execution made the game a hit and miss.

SA2, but only as a port to the PSP.

06, because... well... it's 06

I would say Sonic '06, but I know that, were they to actually do so, there'll be a thread with a tagline like 'The one game nobody wanted a remake of' and it'd be full of 'HOW DARE SEGA WASTE VALUABLE SHELF-SPACE, THINK OF THE PRINTING MATERIALS' and 'THIS IS AKIN TO RAPING AND KILLING MY ENTIRE FAMILY AND PETS', so yeah.

Honestly, I can't specifically think of anything mostly because remaking them would either change them too much (the Megadrive games) or they'd be out of balance with the originals (any of the 3D games).

I think I'd want to see a game that 'revisits' the areas involved rather than a remake itself.

Actually for a 20th Anniversary gift, I'd like to see a Sonic Compilation for the handhelds to make up for Sonic 1 on the GBA, that is, if they can.

And if it's possible, make them compatible with both screens like Sonic Rush, but that's sort of over complicating it.

Anyway, here's to a hopefully possible Sonic 1, Sonic 2, Sonic 3, Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3 & Knuckles and Knuckles in Sonic 2 game on the DS.

Before you see my opinions, I want you to know I'm seeing this a damn near flawless remake with pretty ass graphics like Unleash's but running at 60 fps.

I'd really love to see Sonic 2 and 3&K remade to 3D versions. Now, it's more like I'd love to see the themes of each level reused, but a different level design (much like Unleashed with some things fixed like the constant boosting). Seeing the Oil Ocean zone with grueling oily waters as far as the eye can see with blur and lighting effects to make it look hot as fuck would be an amazing piece of eye candy. Metal structures shooting out of the depths with the original badniks would be awesome in my opinion. Redesign the level to make it much longer and more 3D playable, and it'd be perfect. This kind of thinking matched with any other level would make my jaw hit the floor:

-Chemical Plant Zone with large pipes and lights everywhere.

-Hill Top Zone with miles of mountain peaks and fog with some breath taking gaps and rails.

-The Death Egg with a well made and highly cinematic fight with Silver Sonic.

-Angel Island. Enough said.

-Hydrocity Zone would just be one I'd love personally, XD.

-Lava Reef would be so amazing looking, especially in Act 2. It'd be like watching if for your first time again like on Genesis.

-The Final boss fights in space with the sun gleaming off Eggman's giant ass robot would be awesome.

I'd still love to have the story intact, but made a little deeper to meet up with standards. Nothing over the top, but just enough to get the story still going. More friendship moments between Sonic and Tails, growing hatred between Eggman and Sonic, Knuckles slowly warming up to Sonic not being such a bad guy, and so forth. I'd be extremely cautious with this though, since it seems like anything could just fuck the whole thing up, D=.

Another part I'd look forward to is the music. I'd love, LOVE to see the music for each level really suit the "theme" again. I'm saying that not every song is guitar driven or an epic orchestra, but just the style of music fitting to the level theme. Upbeat Ska-Reggae for Emerald Hill while Chemical Plant Zone gets real Techno Electronic. Hill Top could be super fuck bluesy while Casino Night is classy jazz. Some more original genres could pop up like some classic horror-style music could match Mystic Cave perfectly and Wing Fortress could have some wicked military snare drums. I'd really love to see some Death Metal for the Death Egg Zone beginning too, =O.

While all this is great, I still wouldn't want Sega or Sonic Team to risk it. There is just too much of a chance that it'll be screwed up some where along the lines and really soil the original title. However, this would be a great way to relive the game again but still have the feeling of playing a new title.

I guess a fan can dream I guess, XD.

I would love to see Sonic Adventure 2 on Xbox 360 and PS3 with next generation graphics. It would have to stay true to the original in most other ways besides the graphic upgrade and Big she return since Battle took him out. Also the multiplayer mode could feature two extra characters per mode like Espio and Jet for racing, Shade and Ix for Treasure hunting, and shooting could have both Big and Dark Chao as well as Omega.

I loved 2006 and I think a remake is just what it needs so they can fix all those problems people complained about and maube sharpen up the graphics to be even better.

I also like the idea of seeing some of the original games like Sonic 1,2,3&Knuckles with Unleashed-quality graphics, not 3D gameplay though just 3D graphics.

Lastly, Sonic R with more characters, levels, and next generation graphics. That's what I want more than anything else.

I think having HD versions of the games is a good idea, specifically Sonic 3 and Knuckles as that's a no-brainer. Complete remake of the graphics and visual fx would be very tasty indeed, problem is the whole remake idea is never going to happen unfirtunately Sega just won't go for it especially when they've got the likes of the Virtual Console and XBLA to publish the classics onto. Saves time and money and well, makes money really :P

I, for one, would like to see some Special Edition releases of Sonic 1, 2, CD, 3&K for WiiWare, LiveArcade and PSN, kind of like Monkey Island: Special Edition, with better graphics and remixed music, but with the ability to switch to the classic version.

Couldn't hurt.

I'd love to see a 3D remake of Sonic 1, Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles, it'd be a dream come true for me, having 4 of my all time favourite games remade in 3D, I can just imagine how awesome it'd be, especially Sonic 2! I thoroughly enjoyed SA2's remake of Green Hill Zone, it was the best level of a game I've played in years! I doubt SEGA would ever remake these games, but hey you never know what the future holds.

A 3D remake of Sonic 1, 2, 3 and maybe even S&K would definitely be something I'd love to see. If they released a game like that, I reckon it would be the best Sonic game ever made. =P

Sonic 3 & Knuckles. Sonic 2 was my favorite one, but Sonic 3 & Knuckles is longer and probably would adapt better in 3D or 2.5D. I'd love to see an XBLA remake of pretty much any classic Sonic game with, say, Unleashed visuals.

I think I'd put up shields if they ever announced that Sonic Team was working on graphical updates of the classic games and perhaps lock myself in the panic room if they were in true 3D. I mean, ignoring the dev's reputation, the classic games aren't exactly an easy goalpost to shoot for, are they? I think negative comparisons would be too easy to make. Something would be wrong with these supposed remakes, and they'd probably put the franchise and fanbase further in the hole.

But irregardless of my doomsday attitude, I actually can't think of any Sonic game I would want them to remake anyways, with the possible exception of Sonic '06 if only on the principle that every customer involved deserved better. But I've just never been a stickler for the concept of remaking a game as all it seems to me is a way for a dev to make twice the money for what is essentially the same game at the core. I'd rather they'd put all of those resources into creating newer experiences or, at the very least, direct sequels instead. If I want to play Sonic 1, I'll just pop in Mega Collection. :P

(I will admit though, seeing a 3D Hydrocity would rock my world. <3)

I wouldn't want any of the classics remade in complete 3D like GHZ was in SA2, but more of something like the Turtles in Time remake on XBLA, the same game with some new mechanics added and a large graphical boost.

Oh, I understand you completely nor was I targetting you specifically, but rather the concept instead. Unless I've not played the original, game remakes just don't grab my attention. I could better empathize if there were significant changes to the game to make it stand from its predecessor, but I think a problem would arise in even calling it a remake and catering it to the audience who played the original in the first place, especially considering how hailed these games are. I don't know; I just like it more when Sega surprises me with something completely out of the blue... like Werehogs for instance. Plus, I think I'm burnt out from the fact that the classics are available on so many platforms nowadays. It's made me wonder if we really need more. xD
