Wait, what did i miss?

GameXplain goofed and thought the Japanese site for Sonic Mania that showed snapshots from previous Classic games were representative of the levels appearing in Mania (Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Palmtree Panic and Angel Island) which simply isn't the case. They took the video down just a few minutes ago, assuming they realized the mistake. Like, while we don't really know if Palmtree Panic is in there, it probably isn't because Green Hill is.

I have a bit more faith in the Mania Team than that lol

Ahhh I see. I know Derrick, Andre and Co. They're very cool, well meaning guys, but sometimes they jump the gun a bit with news updates.

If that was true however, that would be the first bad thing I've ever heard regarding Mania. Haha.

You could justify it's inclusion if it was a bad future for Palmtree Panic and if Angel Island was totally on fire and had it's own atmosphere to it, but I think I'd rather have Hydrocity or Quartz Quadrant or something to that effect. I'm cool with Chemical Plant. I know we just got it in Generations, but it's a legit cool level and I wanna see what Mania Team could do with it. I won't necessarily place my bets on that level though, it could literally be anything.

Same, regarding Chemical Plant, at least. It's one of my favorite levels in any game, period. I just hope there's a wide variety of tropes represented. Factories, Ruins, Casinos, Tundras, Deserts, the works. That was a huge issue in Generations.

I hope each zone has a different trope. No need for the same trope to appear more than once. They could get away with including a level like Marble Garden because it's different enough from your standard Green Hill type stage.

We know Green Hill-Mania includes bits of level design which are directly from Emerald Hill, Palmtree Panic, Angel Island (and Sonic 1 8-bit) so I think we can easily rule out those stages from appearing.

I'd also be happy to see Chemical Plant return. It's fast, it's fun, good level design and I'd love to hear a Tee Lopes CP remix.

That Sonic CD style animation is very smooth and a pleasure to watch, fingers crossed it, or something like it ends up in the finished game. It is supposed to be a "What if Sonic had continued onto the Sega Saturn as a 2D platformer" project after all, and a good few Saturn games had nicely animated intro sequences, like Saturn Bomberman.

If this is one of the things they are using the extra time because of the later release date then I approve, and would wait a lot longer if it meant more polish, love and quality being put into this project on this level.

Some media outlets have stated that this kind of game won't get as much mainstream attention as say another Fallout or a polished indie game like Shovel Knight regardless of how good it is (Even if they themselves have given it a great preview report). But personally, if the kind of high quality detail, work and care keeps going into this project, and Sega continues to give them the room to breath and grow that they need, I would be almost willing to say it may just get that mainstream attention that has seemed out of reach for a game in the Sonic franchise since the early years.

Actually, I would say it's already getting mainstream attention. Over 7 million trailer views, literally nothing but positive impressions from all who have played it and long, long lines of people wanting to play it at every major gaming convention. People have not been this excited for a Sonic game since the 90s', easily. I'm asked repeatedly by my non Sonic fan and non gamer friends "Hey when's the new Sonic game coming out?! I want to buy that new Nintendo Switch with it!" all of the time. Even my sister, who hasn't played a video game in 15 years, is excited for this. People, young and old, want to play Mania. And it's awesome to see.

Not to mention the connection with fans that has been occurring with their social media accounts.

Aaron Webber's antics have definitely made these accounts have more exposure.

Especially when it reached 1 million back in October of 2016...

...and then managing to reach that same amount in only six months

It's quite amazing to see how much growth it has had in such a small time.

It was also surreal to see them advertise their social media through Adult Swim of all places.

What if Mecha Sonic is back for Knuckles story? Also, I could see Knuckles getting confused by metal sonic, as he does look a bit like Sonic. I would be cool with a Chemical Plant, very iconic and fun, but it was already in Generations. As long as Mystic Cave gets in I'm cool.

Assuming canon even matters. Which at this rate, nah.

Well,  the makers of this game did say that there will be a clear story,  even going so far as to explain why we're revisiting certain zones.

Who knows? Maybe they'll even provide a reason by the end,  to explain how Knuckles doesn't need to be on the island 24/7 on later games! ;)

I'd rather not see any other zone that has already been remastered in Generations, I don't know I see Mania as a chance for less known zones to reappear.
Also I'm not a fan of Chemical Plant in general so I'd not want to see it even if it didn't reappear in Generations but eh, that's just my opinion.

That's more like it imho.
Seriously how is it possible that Mystic Cave never reappeared, it's freaking amazing.

That'd be a godsend for the canon lol, even though I still think that Mania (and possible sequels) will be in their own timeline, separated from the modern one (I explained this theory on the Forces topic in page 302).

Not if they're apart of the Classic Era which is staying as part of younger Sonic's ventures as established in Generations.

Retcon or not, all Forces can do is claim that a Sonic looking akin to classic is from another dimension that has classic zones. Thankfully it can't undo Generations establishing that Classic Sonic from there and onwards with Mania is younger Sonic.

I'll paste here my theory as I described it on that topic:

I have developed my own headcanon / theory to deal with this kind of questions.
I think that the classic series kind of branches into two separate timelines: the Mania one and the Modern one.
In the modern one after 3&K comes Sonic 4 and then Adventure and so on.
The "neoclassical" one has Mania as a sequel to 3&K and then possible Mania sequels.
This can even be stretched out to say that Hyper Sonic is canon to che Neoclassical one but not to the Modern one but that's taking it too far I think.
[...]
According to that theory I just said, the Classic Sonic from Generations is actually a different one than the Forces one.

The Generations Classic Sonic would be the simply Sonic from the Classics that comes before Sonic 4, while the Forces Classic Sonic could come from Mania / the Neoclassical timeline, which would make him come from another world.
In fact, I wouldn't say it's impossible that they tie Forces and Mania and finally separate for good Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic.

Of course I don't expect them to do exactly what I said but I can see them doing something similar, and if that's the case I don't think they'll influence the modern canon in any way with this game.
It'd also mean that they don't have to cram every Mania sequel (and Mania) in between 3&K and Adventure and that they don't have to deal with the whole Sonic 4 fiasco.

That and it needlessly takes away from younger Sonic.

I don't exactly understand what you mean by this statement sorry, I'm not an english first language speaker.

If I understood and you said "and it needlessly takes away the fact that Classic Sonic is younger Sonic", the whole debate on this thing started because the speaker from the Nintendo Direct talked about Classic Sonic in Forces as being from another dimension, so not a younger version of Modern Sonic.

If I didn't understand what you meant I'm sorry.

Nah, I just meant that I personally feel that it robs younger Sonic of some more potential ventures of his.

I'd honestly rather we just "Metroid Prime" it with the classic era and Mania onwards, having them take place between Sonic 3K and Adventure.

That said, I get the reasons behind the debate.

Like I said, your theory can very well work. It just doesn't suit my personal preferences is all. We cool bro! ye-phoenix-normal%28a%29.gif

Now that I see this screenshot more carefully, I noticed that one of the eggrobos, the bottom left one, is strangely big, like if it's sprite was enlarged.
What do you think this means?
And is the enlargement of the sprite supposed to imitate the one that was common in the 32 bit era, like the one used in Knuckles' Chaotix?
Idk I really find it strange.

It's pretty obvious that's it suppose to mean that particular Egg-robo is closer to the screen.

It's not bigger.

Yeah that's what I also thought, it just seems... weird in execution to me.
I really don't know what rubs me the wrong way about how it looks.
It's also strange that I don't like it considering that I pretty much love everything else about how Mania's looking and I think it's one of my favorite pixel art work ever.

And WHO is responsible for the success of the Sonic franchise?

That's right, SEGA of America.

AGAIN.

Who is continuing to destroy it?

That's right. SEGA of Japan.

AGAIN...

I picture this as their reaction, choking on their pride as it bites them just like it did in the 90's.

About the sprites in Mania, I really like the new sprite for Egg Robo. It makes them feel more important, like they are eggmans most powerful infantry, and now having different variants (bat egg robo's in studiopolis, gun egg Robo's in sky sanctuary, Hardboiled Heavies leading them) makes them feel like Eggman's strongest troops.

It could just be since it's a still image. It would probably look much better in motion while playing.
