Something I'm curious about is whatever's on top of this--is it a spring (definitely looks like one), or a button? And if it's the latter what does it do?

Perhaps it swaps the direction you go when going down the pipe?

The thing is, if it works like the twisty tube from Carnival Night, then the direction you travel should be based on which side of the device you enter.

Then again, it doesn't actually NEED to work the exact same way.

Maybe it's a canon powered by the air/water in the pipe...? You hit the spring, the latch pops up, you plop inside, then kaboom.

Here's another gif...

...and yes I agree. Once Tails reaches the bottom horizontal tube it does continue the right as well as to the left. Perhaps pressing the yellow switch causes the tubes to tilt diagonally downwards to the right instead of to the left (if you know what I mean) so that when Tails reaches the bottom he'll shoot-off to the right along the horizontal tube instead of to the left.

From what I've been reading in this thread, that twisty pipe device is being interpreted as a reference to both Carnival Night Zone and Quartz Quadrant?  I've looked up playthroughs of both zones to jog my memory and can see where both comparisons are coming from, but it seems to me it's only incidentally like the Quartz Quadrant spiral pipes in that the Chemical Plant pipes were already transparent.  For that reason, I'd be cautious about it deconfirming Quartz Quadrant.

Anyone else notice you can control the amount of green goop injected into the water? This must mean there's mutiple levels you can reach depending on how long you stand there. If you only put a little in you can get the extra life up there (you can't see it in this gif) and maybe if you put in all possible you can reach an even higher level.

I'm not sure if that's true. The video from Game Informer is a different run of the same area, and in that one Tails only just skims the plunger as he passes, and it seems to release the same amount and makes him bounce to the same height.

Now I wonder, which levels will be available to play at E3? Given how we just saw both acts, I would say Chemical Plant is a lock, Flying Battery also is a strong possibility, that brand new level also has a good chance, honestly not sure about Stardust Speedway. Is it possible we'll see all four of them playable?

Ah. That's honestly a bit disappointing if it's true. I think I first thought that from seeing the extra life on one of the gray platforms above, thinking you could purposely only skim it to get up there and not to a higher ramp. It would have been an interesting choice to have it that way.

I remember reading somewhere that there was a level with an espio poster in it. Does anyone know where that is from?

I'm in agreement with you that the Park Avenue theme was freakin amazing, but music is probably the most subjective component of a game, so I wouldn't really question it if someone else said they didn't care for it.

Oh i dont care if he didnt like it. He picked with me before about it and i told him git. I got the broom out and started swatting at him. Git go on git.

Aka its all in jest if someone didnt its fine.

Agreed.  And besides, even if we did all somehow unanimously agree that the twisty pipe was from Quartz Quadrant specifically, it's not like that was the definitive gimmick of that level.

If we see a mine themed level or a level covered in conveyor belts, THEN we should consider deconfirming Quartz Quadrant.

I still think Quartz Quadrant isn't showing up. The way Mirage Saloon is designed, with it's purposefully flat and angled platforms, tight angled tunnels, and the caterkiller variants gives me severe QQ vibes so I don't think it's coming back.

Also about the nub on top of the spiral tube, it looks identical to a spring to me. And there's enough space above it that I could believe there's another path or at least a bunch of rings up there.

The things we do here to pass the time.

I do wonder though, anyone curious about what they could do with Mushroom Hill as well?

I know it was in Generations handheld version but... i can't help but wondering how crazy with the shrooms they could get.

Aaron Webber's just stated on the
that they're choosing to show Classic levels rather than new ones because they want us to be surprised. So I guess we don't have to worry about them being spoiled, leaks notwithstanding.

Tell that to GameInformer >:U

Fuck man, I saw Chemical Plant on my Facebook timeline, got a bit disappointed untill I saw the video, it looks insane. Each water color has an effect on Sonic, light blue bounces a little, green bounces a LOT. The remix is eargasmic.

BUT THEN. I CAME HERE AND SAW THE GREEN HILL BOSS.

Fuck. Me. It would an awesome surprise, the freaking LAST BOSS robot is in Green Hill, which will likely be the first zone. Madness.

Well... They picked the obvious choice for Sonic 1, 2 and CD. I could argue that Flying Battery is among the most obvious choice for Sonic & Knuckles too, but IDK, I think either Lava Reef or Death Egg are more iconic. AS FOR SONIC 3. It's either Ice Cap or Hidrocity, anything else would make a bunch of people madly disappointed. And PLEASE, if it is ICECAP, do not spoil!!!! I wanna see the tittle screen coming and revealing I-C-E-C-A-P while the melody starting playing in the background like..

TUM TUM

TUM DUM DUM TUM

TUM DUM DUM TUM

TU DUM DUM TUM

HARD TIMES

HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE

It will be redeeming.

I'm actually disappointed considering how slow the Death Egg robot is. It's going to be pretty boring if it plays like that and the first CD boss.

It does look neat, but as far as how interesting the fight will be, that's something to worry about.

Seeing that green pool of bouncy slime, anyone reminded of Flubber? Yeah, I'm old...

With CPZ and the Death Egg Robo confirmed, I hazard the following guesses:

* The other classic zones represented in Generations also make returns; Sky Sanctuary, Casino Night, and Mushroom Hill.

The Zone theme clause set up by Green Hill Zone prevents those 3 levels from being remixed.

Sky Sanctuary Zone won't be remixed because Flying Battery Zone is the game's air/sky/wind themed level.

Casino Night will also not be in because Studiopolis Zone is the game's amusement park themed level.

Mushroom Hill Zone is a Green Hill themed zone with grass/forest/jungle elements and they've already stated the other Green Hill themed Zones are not making it in.

Let's see...

-Angel Island, very unlikely.

-Hidrocity, very likely

-Marble Garden... I'd say "hopefully unlikely"

-Carnival Night: unlikely (gimmicks in Chemical Plant and also we already have Studiopolis and Mirage Saloon, which are not the same but rekinds me of).

-Ice Cap: hopefully likely. With Hidrocity, I'd say it's the most iconic zone.

-Launch base, likely. Not my favourite, but nice anyway.

With Green Hill Zone Act 2 and Chemical Plant Zone, I'm not sure if they'll still do a Water/Oil themed level.

Also, with Stardust Speedway Past and the currently unknown catherdal zone, I'm not sure if we'll get a forest/grass/jungle level or a Ruins themed level.

Ok, so here's Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2

Now here's Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic Mania

They still have that strange white divide though...

Actually the side of the tube didn't matter, it's automatic unless you hold a direction...

It's true. Aaron and Sergio covered the mechanic in the stream. You can release different amounts of goop for increased bounciness.

Oh, so the remaining new zones aren't being revealed officially? Guessing that means Chemical Plant, Stardust Speedway and Flying Battery will be the playable stages at E3 then. Fine by me.

I think we will still get a returning water level. Chemical Plant isnt really a water level, it just has elements of water. I'm still holding out for Hydrocity :)

It's funny actually...

Water + Sonic = Good

Water + Zelda = Nightmare

The weird thing is Sonic is the one with a fear of water.

lol
