I wonder if we'll get any new info on Feburary 2nd, since that's hedgehog day?

Would make sense in my opinion.

That's most likely when we'll see more. Though, there's a chance that it's coming to Switch, so we may see something at Nintendo's event in just two and a half weeks.

That Iizuka quote made me think it would be cool to have act subtitles. It probably won't be the case (Did Sonic 4 have them? I swear at least one game had level subtitles!)

Sonic 4 did have a subtitle for each level/boss act.

So looking at this picture and quote, i can definitely see some intresting things

Act transitions ala Sonic 3 & Knuckles are confirmed.

Also this is our first look at a seperate act for a existing zone, even if it's just the very beginning, (We've only seen one act of each zone we seen.)

The iwata quote definitely implies that there may be Underwater sections. (A throwback to Labyrinth maybe?)

Seriously everytime we see this game, i just get more & more excited each time. WHY CAN'T 2017 & SPRING COME ALREADY????????????

This thread has gone quiet. Good thing the new year is here!

To restart things, what levels do you guys want and don't want to see, and how many zones do you think there will be?

Going by Taxman's comments about Mania's size and length, I think there will definitely be more zones than Sonic 3&K, which had 14. If i were to guess, I'd say 16 or 17 zones sounds about right. I'm guessing 65% of the zones will be old.

My Picks:

Star Light

Chemical Plant

Aquatic Ruin

Casino Night

Mystic Cave

Quartz Quadrant

Stadust Speedway

Hydro City (I want the latter half of Sonic 3 stages, but i know that isn't happening.)

Flying Battery

Lava Reef

Levels i don't want to see:

Anything else from Sonic 1 and CD: Meh. Pass.

We've done that a million times already in this same thread :V

All I want is Hidrocity or Ice Cap, then I'll be a happy man.

I think there will be 19 zones. 8 New, 11 Old. This would leave 2 from each classic game. I would like to see...

Springyard Zone (Sonic 1)

Starlight Zone (Sonic 1)

Casino Night Zone (Sonic 2)

Mystic Cave Zone (Sonic 2)

Launch Base Zone (Sonic 3)

Hydrocity Zone (Sonic 3)

Lava Reef Zone (S&K)

Death Egg Zone [Ruins] (S&K)

Stardust Speedway (Sonic CD)

A not horrible Wacky Workbench (I like the concept, but the presentation was trash, Taxman and Stealth can fix this) (Sonic CD)

If there are levels from other games, I would like to see Speed Slider (Chaotix) and Bridge Zone (8-bit Sonic 1)

Launch Base Zone (Sonic 3)

This is never happening.

There is a very obvious reason this is never happening, starting with the PC port of S3&K. There are always answers to everyone's questions in the past decisions that have been made by Sega. Didn't y'all have "Detective" all in your usernames this year or something? Look for more clues. That said...

Launch Base Zone will start off in a space shuttle station, but in the second act a giant food court will rise from the oceans, complete with giant donuts, chili dogs and chinese take-out food boxes for him to run along. The title card will cross out the "A" and call it Lunch Base Zone.

Potshot at Lost World or not, I love this and I want this to happen so badly!

Of course I would love to see Ice Cap return in this... and while it's not likely due to the rights to its music, I wouldn't be opposed to them using something like this:

I was really surprised by this song. The way a lot of the Classic themes are remixed in Lego Dimensions is not my cup of tea, but for obvious reasons this one had to be entirely new (unless it's from something I've forgotten?). It manages to capture the spirit of the original really well (unlike the S3&K PC version which I cannot for the life of me enjoy...)

Just out of curiosity, what Classic Zone themes does Sega own the rights to? All I know is all Sonic 1 & 2 Zones are owned by their composers, and Sega apparently owns all of JP Sonic CD, minus the vocals for the intro and ending themes.

The American Sonic CD and Sonic&Knuckles soundtracks are wholly owned by them.

I hate that this is true. I personally am not big on the first half of Sonic 3's stages, I'd much rather have Carnival Night, Ice Cap or Launch Base, but the legal issues make that next to impossible. Hydro City is not a bad choice though.

The thing I want most is for one or more of the underloved, but interesting and creative, Sonic 2 zones - such as Hill Top Zone, Mystic Cave Zone, or Oil Ocean Zone - to be given another chance to shine. I'd love to see what spin Taxman & Stealth could put on them. I also can't wait to see what they can do with any other Sonic 1 levels, since I feel most of them are a bit underappreciated and there's a lot more that could still potentially be done with them. Maybe even Scrap Brain Zone? I'd love to see what twist they could put on that, or on another final level. And I personally love Scrap Brain, with its plethora of fun and challenging gimmicks.

Just compose a new music. Problem solved! SEGA owns the GAME.

As for Sonic 1 and 2, they own the music for sure, I believe Masato Nakamura never claimed any authority over the songs, he's a nice guy. As for CD, Naofumi Hataya still regularly works for SEGA, so...

The remastered ports also proves SEGA can use those songs with no problem. It's true that they almost never use the Sonic 3 songs (save for Angel Island), but yeah... I'm totaly fine with the idea of composing a whole new music instead of fully discard good zones like Ice Cap and Launch Base.

Considering it was the original Eggman HQ zone, it's just begging to see a dilapidated/reclaimed by nature trope going on (though the plot would need to justify a need for Eggman to return there OR the badniks would need to not be powered by animals - otherwise there's some grim-ass implications there in terms of "why the hell are kidnapped animals in this zone that Sonic cleared out years ago").

Granted, Metropolis could work too for this. Scrap Brain is the first but Metropolis is the most iconic Eggman ground-base.  Scrap Brain being the first feels more right for the dilapidation theme of course, and you've also got the potential to have broken parts of it cause Sonic to drop down into the dank corner of Labyrinth that Act 3 takes place in originally.

Doesn't Sega also have the own the rights to the Japanese Soundtrack of Sonic CD? (Besides the vocal themes.)

SEGA now owns the rights to the Jp soundrack and the vocal themes for You Can Doing Anything & Cosmic Eternity.

When Sonic CD remastered was being developed in 2011 the vocal themes weren't owned by SEGA, which is why they weren't included in the remaster. However, SEGA then went and bought the rights to the vocals which is why they were included in the 20th anniversary soundtrack also released in 2011:

For whatever reason SEGA chose not to do a patch and add the vocals to the remastered version of Sonic CD, which is a shame.

I hope they don't forget about Android and iOS, so we can play the game on phones or tablets (with a controller, of course).

The other problem with Metropolis Zone is that it's Metropolis Zone. haha

I just find it a frustrating level, personally. It comes across as more tedious than other final levels, and the badniks are too much of a headache for my tastes.
