No trolling. It's just my opinion, you guys should accept that there's people who care more about Forces, instead of all this Mania worship and wanting Forces to fail in comparison.

You can have an opinion... but making stuff up makes your opinion stupid.

The carbon copy thing for example, the whole 'Beautiful' thing is also kinda daft since the only pretty thing about forces GHZ is that they turned on the 3D shaders and added particle effects...

Which would look all sorts of stupid in a 2D game.

... Well maybe not the particle effects. But all that diffuse and spectral lighting effects would look a tad odd.

No he didn't. Again. The guy clarified he was... wrong about the carbon copy thing? I guess?

My biggest concern with Mania is that I don't want too many "casino" levels. And both new stages we saw are very "casino-like". That's not a good sign... For me at least. Spring Yard, Casino Night, Carnival Night and especially Collison Chaos please stay away from this game.

Example: Sonic After the Sequel did the level tropes really well for me. I hope Mania does something like this.

The only Mania reveal I want at this point is a release date and stage count so I can officially tune out and do my best to avoid anything else.

I think that someone from here perhaps could start a twitter account, or I guess it could be a thread started by mods perhaps in Green Hill Zone, or this subforum even, that would post (only) the release date, once it has been announced!  ^_^

Someone like you or i who is intent on knowing nothing else about the game would bookmark or subscribe to whatever webpage/forum thread this would be!

Taxman said (when Mania was first announced) that his team introduced the drop-dash (not Sonic Team). Therefore, I wonder if the drop-dash in Forces is a late addition? I'm okay with it being in Forces. Ironically it's probably more suited to Forces, although it's still a really good addition to Mania. Gonna have fun using it!

From all the talk we've heard I don't see any indication Mania and Forces are linked. I certainly hope not. Mania should remain separate from any modern Sonic game. The only thing Mania should be linked to is the previous classics; Sonic 1, 2, 3 & CD etc.

THAT IS IRONIC

I uploaded a video to youtube that has Aaron Weber talking about a possibility of a physical release of mania

I've noticed with each new big reveal someone has made a separate thread, which is kind of a double edged sword. On one hand it's very likely someone will make a "Mania release date revealed!" thread, and it's just as likely that someone would make something like "Aquatic Ruin revealed for Mania" thread, spoiling people who may otherwise be trying to avoid new info.

Avoiding stuff like level reveals is really difficult, because it's part of planned marketing, and as such will seep into so many outlets that odds are you'll eventually see it. Gaming news sites will plaster a new level on their front pages, it will be shown in countless youtube thumbnails, thread titles, etc. It's really hard to avoid that stuff. So as much as I just want a level count and release date and nothing else, I'm making my peace with the fact that I'll likely see more than that by the time I get my hands on the game.

Blue Blood already defended his argument and it's concluded. Don't dogpile.

Chill, we don't need this negativity.

People have opinions, there is no need to start "congratulating" them for trying to defend themselves when they get attacked.

Also, I know it's been settled, but I'm here to say don't do this either. For as condescending as you think another member might have been, don't go hurling insults while thinking you're on higher ground.

Let's all cool it and move on. Kthx

Not sure if it's been posted before, but Dengeki site did an interview which mostly talks about Mania, and some bits of Forces, and Sonic Toon.

This screenshot i believe is something we haven't yet seen of Flying Battery (correct me if im wrong).

It's not from the original at all. Completely new look.

Additionally, this is a (google translated) quote from the article about Flying Battery:

" In addition, FLYING BATTERY ZONE (Flying Battery Zone) popular in "Sonic & Knuckles" is recorded. In the original version, it is a stage that comes and goes inside and out of an aerial battleship, but "Sonic Mania" has a thrilling stage structure running around the outside of the battleship."

That's kind of a clue about what the rest of the stage will look like (how it will stand out from the classic)?

Is it? To me it looks perfectly placed to screw us xD

I guess it depends on what's under it, but it just seems weird that you'd ever drop down on that platform since the line of rings indicates you just monkey bar your way over it, and the one that extends down is far out of the way of any visible hazard.

Maybe I'm just looking at it all wrong, I dunno.

Yeah, this is new.

I know I've said this before, but I really like the new background. The cylindrical effect (designed I guess to give it the appearance/shape interior of a battery) looks so cool.

Difficult to judge because we don't know what the stage layout is to left (or right) beneath either side of the rotating flamethrower, but this kind of design-placement was common in the S&K version. I'm pretty certain this is new level design in the screenshot (I checked the maps of the original version) and not reused from S&K.

Wonder if Sonic will rotate 360 degrees when standing on the middle of the flametrower as it turns (like he does on the stools at the saloon bars in Mirage Saloon)?

Do you think there will be any affects to the environment such as the flame from flamethrowers if Sonic has the flame elemential shield? Will coming into contact with another flame/fire/lava have any consequence, like maybe the flame shield could manipulate lava/fire to move/bend in a certain direction to attack an enemy or effect the environment?

Goddamn why is Sega still so ignorant to believe that people would be "dissapointed" in pixelated Sonic??

And on another end, of course younger people like the old Sonics too. I mean really.

Iizuka talking about deja vu with Sonic 3 is pretty cool however

Yeah, honestly I'm just being dumb about it and needlessly singled out something that struck me at the moment as being odd. Not a post I'm very proud of but hey, what'cha gonna do.

edit: Also my suspicion with elemental shields interacting with environmental gimmicks is that they'll probably limit it to one per stage, if at all, so as to not risk over complicating things. That said, I'm curious to see how it plays out, the burning log and magnetized ceilings are things I never thought I'd see in a classic game, and I like them quite a bit.

I bet you can stand on that flamethrower and activate a switch.

In the original, if you stand on the flamethrower long enough, it would launch you up! Who knows what might happens now?

I've always thought it was cool that when you stand on it, it stops shooting the flames for a bit. I had hoped there was a puzzle where the flame was heating something up (so you couldn't touch it without the fire shield), but if you stood on it and kept the flames from flowing, the object you need to climb on quickly cools down and then you can run on it after you jump off.

They also acted as buttons sometimes for secrets. Those are always exciting :)

Personally I have next to zero hype for this game, I can say its honestly is going back to Sonics roots and I'm sure it will be fun except ... well nothing in it looks new, It just looks like they are rehashing previous games ideas even for the stages that are not remixes, I suppose thats the idea it just doesn't make it very appealing to me.

It has rings and loops, right, totally the same game.

I'm glad some people are finally getting what they want at the very least. I probably have at least another decade of waiting to go at this point though.

There might be a U-ramp just to the right of the platform it is placed on, and it's moved slightly to the left to prevent the player from being blindsided by it if they decide to roll up there and still have a place to land, although you will most likely grab the handholds if you have enough speed when rolling so it may end up being a nonissue.

I'm not particularly fond of Sonic 1, but if it gets a second stage chosen, then it has to be Star Light. It's the best stage in Sonic 1 by far. The incredible music, visuals and the neat gimmicks always made me enjoy going back to it. It's an all time classic.
