Meet Clutch. A mining robot turned genocidal, and a tanking powerhouse. His active ability, Barrier, is a shield which protects his front (and allies behind him), and his passive abilities, Still Defense, decreases any damage he takes by 20% when standing or walking, and another which accelerates his speed over time when running without strafing or jumping (which resets the speed).

Even the Devil fears me...

New Champion, and this time, it's Galena! She's also, in a way, our first healer character. Her active ability is Unholy Totem, which is a proximity mine that detonates when an enemy comes near. It can also heal allies, which then disappears once a healing limit is reached.

Her passive ability, Channeling, makes health pickups take 5% off her active ability cooldown, meaning she'll be able to get her active ability much faster by healing herself.

He's the guy that started it all back in 1996. Our old friend Ranger is back, and he ain't backing down until he finally finds his way home after going through countless Slipgates and battling just as many nightmarish creatures. Which is good, because he'll have to survive the Arenas first.

He still carries the Dire Orb that he obtained from (and used to telefrag) Shub-Niggurath back in Quake 1, and as his special ability, he's using it to teleport to faraway places... and into the bodies of anyone that opposes him.

Plus, his Son of a Gun passive allows him to use the Rocket Launcher with slightly more reckless abandon, as the passive decreases self-damage by 20%.

And we now get to play the new Sacrifice mode that id has been pushing so hard. And to add to it, the NDA will finally lift on May 12! Stream, record, talk about the game, whatever you want! It's open season!

See you in the arena.

Remember Visor from Quake 3: Arena? Well, he's back for Champions. Enhanced by Moscow's GRU into the perfect soldier, Visor relentlessly chases after his opponents, never quitting until he's reduced them to a large red splotch on the ground.

His Piercing Sight active ability helps him accomplish this goal, as activating it allows him to see through matter to reveal the locations of the other Champions. Not even Nyx is safe when she's using her Ghost Walk ability.

Gotta go fast? You can with Visor's Grasshopper passive, which allows him to gain speed with strafe-jumping-- without a speed cap. So feel free to catch up with Anarki... and shut his loud mouth for him.

Sorlag is yet another Champion returning from Quake III Arena, and she's looking forward to continuing the hunt. It is her sole purpose in life, after all.

Her Acid Spit active ability has her... well... spit acid that stays on the ground for a few seconds and pretty much melts any unfortunate Champion that walks through it. Nasty...

Hop, hop, hop with Sorlag's Bunny Hop passive. A classic Quake maneuver, continued forward jumping allows her to travel faster throughout the map. But that's not all-- her other passive, Acid Fiend, makes her immune to acid. So if you're another Sorlag... don't even try it.

Also, Quake Champions comic books from Titan Comics are arriving in the summer. Dive into the Champions' backstories...

Quake Champions enters Early Access on the Bethesda.net Launcher and Steam on August 22nd, and with it comes the Doom Slayer, straight out of DOOM '16!

...Oh, and some other stuff too, I guess. If you're new to the game, you can buy the Champions Pack for a reduced price; anyone who's already gotten in can keep playing.

I gotta say, Early Access would be a great idea on paper, if it wasn't for the fact that it has a terrible reputation and life cycle. For the first two weeks, Quake Champions will get tons of players and a lot of feedback. Once the two weeks are over, it'll just die.

This is the first time I've seen a big studio use it proper, though. It's quite impressive what happens if you leave Early Access to big name competent developers.

It's here and it's clear! Get out in the arena, folks, and rack up those frags.

Also, DOOM Slayer is... Kinda shit but kinda not...? He's in a weeeiiiird place right now.

You can also get an exclusive skin for Nyx (which is a very lackluster skin) by purchasing one of AMD's new graphics cards or something.

Quad Damage is spawning soon, will you grab it?

For some reason Bethesda insists on making obviously scripted footage of the game that makes it look like a slow mess. Well, a slow mess that is an average modern shooter, that is.

If you want to see the sheer depth and intensity of the game that unfolds to you as you git gud at it, here's just one of the myriad of examples:

He's back!

The Death Knight enemy from Quake 1 returns as a Champion in a new update releasing today, and he wants payback on Ranger for telefragging his old boss, Shub-Niggurath... but he'll settle for the other Champions, too. He comes complete with Flame Strike (that is, his signature sword-swipe fireball attack) as his Active Ability. His Passive Abilities are Charring and Forged Skin, which allow him to set enemies ablaze with his flaming gauntlet and be resistant to lava and fire, respectively.

More details about this update can be found in the patch notes.

Also, here's a roadmap for what's coming next to Quake Champions.
