What new level tropes would you like to see in future Sonic games?

That would be Sonic 06 as the Babylon Rouges were neutral.

Sticks is Boom! So she is not main continuity.

The series has plenty of heroes, I actually it be a villain personally.

At the very least let the new character a better antihero than shadow and Jet.

I just dont want another Sonic 06 in the end, generations was such a great game that almost got me back into Sonic.

Too bad Boom made me hate sonic again, I am only back in as its Sonics 25 and Mania is coming out.

But then would eggman wanna fight the new villain?

Anyways, I'd like to see a level where sonic runs and out races race cars or cars in general, that'd be pretty sweet

Well it would be a cool new dynamic that hasnt been done before in this series.

As for your idea... I always found the idea of Sonic driving a car silly.

He is already fast and find games like Sonic all star racing a generally bad idea, I mewan that game is okay and all but it misses the point.

So does the riders series.

Yeah but they kind of let other studios handle sonic and that did not wind up so good.

Plus having to rely on a new character to sell Sonic 2017 as opposed to letting the game work without adding un needed baggage.

I mean yes they made some good efforts in Colors, generations and Lost World but Lost world is very divisive.

I dont think the effort was there, I mean I like lost world but its not as polished as generations

Reign that back in buddy.

We don't know nearly enough about the new character to make wild claims like that. If it ends up being another Chip/Yaker situation, or simply a MotW then its hardly relying on a new character to sell 2017. We don't have any info to go off of, so there is no reason to tack on that kind of unwarranted baggage.

While we are on the topic of 2017, how about a warzone stage? I think I'd get a kick out of being in downtown *insertnamehere*opolis while its in the middle of being shelled by the Egg Fleet. I would make for some pretty dynamic set pieces and the difficulty could really ramp up as Sonic rushes into the teeth of the invasion, just like in the trailer.

The more explosions Sonic gets to run through the better.

I'd really enjoy a half destroyed abandoned Death Egg Zone or a haunted house Death Egg Zone. Both ideas are nice & spooky and could offer a lot of fun if developed right I say.

Is derailing topics just to push your opinion that modern Sonic sucks and new characters shouldn't be a thing all you ever think about? Because it sure seems to be the only topic you ever post about.

Personally, I really liked the crazy, nonsensical and fantastical zones in Sonic Heroes and Advance 2/3. Music Plant zone and Casino Park are 2 of the most beautiful stages IMO. It makes them really fun. Even though I kinda dislike Toy Kingdom zone, the craziness and fun design and atmosphere makes me really enjoy it.

I kinda want more stages that make me have fun and smile simply due to their design and aesthetic. Unlike graphics, that's timeless.

I really like the idea of having more environmental elements in Sonic levels. When it comes to seasons, I think Autumn/Fall is something that hasn't been done too well or extensively, hence me mentioning it. Rainy days, apples, acorns, pumpkins...I want to see a Sonic level that screams Autumn/Fall as opposed to a single symbol or two of the season. Having bright leaves of various colors and the wind blowing throughout the level would bring a nice and pretty effect to the level IMO and maybe have piles of leaves that Sonic or whomever is playable could jump into not only for fun but to find some goodies hidden underneath ^_^

What about an art zone of some sort? Aside from art props and tools such as crayons, paintbrushes, pencils, ink, and paint all over the place and thinking off the top of my head, the art-style could change depending on whatever "power-up" is selected or maybe if the boost is involved whether it is the composition of watercolor, oil painting, even artwork that is drawn by crayon! Or it could simply change gradually as you progress through the level. There are many possibilities with this level trope and I am sure it would look amazing as the beauty of art knows no bounds :).

I would love to see a zone with a mix of Ice-Cap, Balloon Park and Mystic Cave. I'm not sure why, but those were the most played for me when I had Sonic3 and 2. It would be nice to see Mystic Cave have an underground ice section and then go into an insane party world like Balloon park

It would be cool to see an electric plant/power station themed stage that changes location over time. Like act 1 could be in the plant itself and act 2 is on high power lines sprawling for miles over countryside or something.

Act 1 could be dealing with Sonic having to pass through or stop large machines like steam turbines or something, and maybe routes could be changed by Sonic starting or stopping steam from going through certain pipes or change their direction, sorta an extension of the idea of the pipes seen in Metropolis and Scrap Brain zone maybe. There could be a lot of opportunities to make Sonic have to continue by him producing mechanical energy from running or rolling to drive generators or things like that.

Act 2 would consist of Sonic running through mazes of catenaries and overhead wires, with utility poles being small areas where you have to slow down, platform and choose a section of wire to keep running on, with the longer wire portions of the stage being more linear and faster, but with opportunities to jump between wires with speed or tact to go to other areas. Outdoor obstacles could come into use here, such as bad weather, maybe parts of wires being felled from trees. I could see the location during this act change, such as maybe you start hundreds of feet above the air over a relatively flat and empty countryside with large distances between utility poles and continue into a city or suburb with lower wires and poles much closer to each other for example. It could be a good way to transition into a completely different zone if desired.

How about some levels based off the concept art of Sonic 1

S1concept-WaterArt.jpg

S1concept-Loops.jpg

S1concept-Starlight.jpg

I think some of this art could inspire some pretty snazzy looking levels (Especially with Labyrinth & Star Light)

(Yes, I know Sonic overture exists, & we'll probably see some of these levels in there, but i mean something official.)

I would like to see a rainy jungle zone, where there is mud and there is a part where you cross a river by running on top of the water. I know it sound similar to sonic heroes' Frog forest, but i would like to be based more on the Amozonas.

Another idea zone idea that i would like to see again is Shadow the hedgehog's lava shelter, i really like that level beacuse there is a gimmick where you change the lava's level, allowing for new routes.

Considering the current Death Egg is technically Little Planet, I could see haunted versions of the Bad Futures being especially dark. Like imagine a totally and utterly ruined Metallic Madness, the echoes of Eggman’s victims haunting the area. Or maybe Null Space could be a dimensional field full of Genesis Portals.

I dunno why, but the idea of running through a run-down city that instead of being on fire but was just really thunderstorm heavy and raining all over the place kind of intrigues me. I like damaged areas and I like the rain so...

Also, more haunted house themed levels would be cool. I know that requires more creativity than what they're willing to do nowadays but whatever.

I want floating donuts and a wooly pac-man chase, because that's how Sonic should be! I'm saying that because I've never played Sonic ibefore n my life, and the only Sonic game I've played was Sonic Lost World.

All jokes aside, I would like to see an Eggman base called Chrome Citadel, kinda like Forces' Metropolis but, you know, A BASE.

Also, maybe a sunken Egg Carrier?  Kinda like Death Egg or Sky Deck, but underwater?

Or, perhaps... A mechanized Green Hill, that's been remade into a casino?

Or, how about Planet Wisp, but infested with Black Arms?

A Puritan graveyard, full of headstones, footstones, exposed coffins, and dark tombs. Players can go inside a dusty old crypt to find a large necropolis of recycled headstones. The wails of wicked souls may echo in the air above, as you discover more about the “city on a hill” that proved to be a foul concept. The hanging gallows can be used as a pulley to accelerate players upward into the air. This is all contrasted with the witchy funfair In the background.

Act 2 could have you enter the long-ruined town, with dilapidated churches, farmsteads, and blacksmiths. The blacksmith place could even be a place full of fire and brimstone, with players dodging flames. At the end of the stage is City Hall. A place that has fallen to ruin, and yet seems alive. The carnival itself could be act 3.

An abandoned concentration camp, with the conflict being some genocide deniers wanting to make a point. Gas chambers still function here, with the gas having a drowning feature akin to water. Tangling barbed wire can be broken out of. Boss machines could be modified devices from the camp. Jump on abandoned gurneys as the roll around to gain speed. The incinerator would make a great climax. Perhaps a rescue mission here?

On a light note, a Picasso-inspired Zone would be intriguing.

... What the actual fuck?

A-Anyways, adding one of my own ideas:

*A canyon level with a canoeing/kayaking gimmick.  Think Canyon Cruise from Sonic the Fighters but as a platform level mixed with the boat gimmick from Mania's Hydrocity, but all the boats are going fast and downhill instead of slow and horizontal.  Getting to higher routes would require jumping off of the fast moving boat at just the right time.

We’ve already had a level of floating donuts, so the opposite extreme isn’t too odd any longer. Especially if this genocide is tied into the backstory of the game. And I like the boat level concept.

And, not just Picasso, but seeing levels inspired by Jack Kirby, Andy Warhol, Hieronympus Bosch, Basil Wolverton, David Hall, and H.R. Giger would also look cool.

Not exactly new level tropes, but rather revamped versions of specific ones. Never thought I'd live to see places like Sky Sanctuary and Chemical Plant perfectly realized in 3D, but those places sold Generations to me. I'd love to see:

A modern Aquatic Ruins, with it's pristine marsh, and rustic, well... ruins.

I could still do with more City Escape or Speed Highway-ish stages.

Can someone even do Collusion Chaos in 3D? I mean is that brand of Casino bumper shenanigans legal in three dimensions? I don't know but I'd sure like to see them try!

Sonic Advanced 2's Leaf Forest! Not too far from Green Hill in aesthetic, but unique in being more heavily wooded, and yes bonus points for Knothole village-ish touches.

In my upcoming 3D game, I'm working on implementing unique, Classic Sonic-style gimmicks in 3D, such as bumpers and pinball segments, as well as massive, Chemical Plant like slopes and loops focuses on physics. As for level themes, I've got a few...

Nuke Jungle (A level used in my game)- A mad dash into Robotnik's base, where Robotnik, in a last ditch effort, drops bombs into the jungle.

Greenhouse Heat- Robotnik traps Sonic in a greenhouse, which he is beginning to heat up, so Sonic has to escape and get out before he burns to death.

These are just some ideas. I have more, if anyone's interested.

Ever since Shadow the Hedgehog I've been really interested in seeing a level that really puts the player in the middle of a battle between G.U.N. and Eggman's troops. I can imagine it being a really dynamic level with mortars blasting craters in the ground, aircraft debris falling from the sky, weaving between landmines, grinding on tank cannons, the who nine yards. They could even make it so your actions during the level affect the battle. Destroying lots of enemies, for instance, could turn the tide of the battle in G.U.N.s favor and open up new routes, while bypassing foes would give Eggman the advantage and lead to different possibilities.

I also like the idea of a level set on a fleet of ships during a storm with waves constantly tossing them around. Because you're not on stable ground the angle of the deck is constantly changing,  timing your actions to the swells would let you take advantage of the physics in a bunch of different ways. I think you could have lots of fun with a level like that.
