The General American Politics Thread

That reminds me of the time Fox News made an objectively false news report that might be construed as an attempt to reinforce a political agenda.

They way their reporters handle the news with their opinion, I wouldn't be surprised if they turned out to do such a thing all the time. :V

Guys, he'll only have this war on porn until he finds out that people like it. Then he'll make it known that he always was pro-porn.

I read that as pro-pane.

Anyway, I'm more or less indifferent, but if I'd had to pick I'd say Obama. It helps that my dad and I do watch Fox News for entertainment purposes and to conjure up some humorous conversation.

Mitt Romney to have a "War on Porn"

If that were to ever happen, it would be another Prohibition in the making. At this point enforcing anything anti-porn will fail by default.

Mitt Romney to have a "War on Porn"

The pornography industry has been considered influential in deciding format wars in media, including being a factor in the VHS vs. Betamax format war (the videotape format war)and in the Blu-ray vs. HD DVD format war (the high-def format war).

Good luck with that Romney. Porn is actually pretty damn important for format wars.

Obama's mother has been posthumously baptized into the Mormon faith by a rogue Mormon...

ABC News has confirmed reports that Mormons posthumously baptized President Obama's mother five months before the election.

The baptism was first reported by AMERICAblog's John Aravosis, who found an ordinance record on the Mormon genealogical Web site, FamilySearch.org.

Mormon Church spokeswoman Kim Farah said that "the offering of baptism to our deceased ancestors is a sacred practice to us and it is counter to Church policy for a Church member to submit names for baptism for persons to whom they are not related. The Church is looking into the circumstances of how this happened and does not yet have all the facts. However, this is a serious matter and we are treating it as such."

According to "doctrinal background" from an LDS spokesman, "well-meaning Church members sometimes bypass this instruction and submit the names of non-relatives for temple baptism. Others -- perhaps pranksters or careless persons -- have submitted the names of unrelated famous or infamous people, or even wholly fictitious names. These rare acts are contrary to Church policy and sometimes cause pain and embarrassment."

That's as stupid as baptising a baby who has no choice over it.

Why is this disrespectful practice still legal, again?

You could get rid of posthumous baptisms and not infringe one iota on Mormons' free exercising of their religion.

It is an absolutely unnecessary practice, and its sole purpose is to legitimize the Mormon faith by inducting people with credibility or significance into its ranks after death - when they cannot complain.

Wait, hang on, can they do that? Isn't a baptism literally pouring water on someone while saying words? How can you baptise someone who isn't even in the room? nevermind that they're dead.

Ahh. Being a Mormon is great and all, But Honestly I freaking hate the ones that do stuff like this jut in a attempt to be publicly known.(Plus i thought there was a rule against baptisms like that.) I mean The mormon church is being labeled as basically "there crazy evil people out to kill everyone not mormon!"

Oh and I hate Romney. Don't like the guy one bit. Oh and his "War on Porn." Yeah....have fun with that. Not a porn Person, but even I know that is near impossible right now.

Being black and Mormon in these times is hard.....:/

Their baptized through someone else. Who's alive. Normally youth between 12-18.

And patt.....I would say something about baptism and what the REAL main reasons for it are, but we'd probably go into a huge debate. One that I don't want to get into.:/

During a private fundraiser earlier this year, Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney told a small group of wealthy contributors what he truly thinks of all the voters who support President Barack Obama. He dismissed these Americans as freeloaders who pay no taxes, who don't assume responsibility for their lives, and who think government should take care of them. Fielding a question from a donor about how he could triumph in November, Romney replied:

There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the president no matter what. All right, there are 47 percent who are with him, who are dependent upon government, who believe that they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them, who believe that they are entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you-name-it. That that's an entitlement. And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what…These are people who pay no income tax.

Romney went on: "[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

Mother Jones has obtained video of Romney at this intimate fundraiser—where he candidly discussed his campaign strategy and foreign policy ideas in stark terms he does not use in public—and has confirmed its authenticity. To protect the confidential source who provided the video, we have blurred some of the image, and we will not identify the date or location of the event, which occurred after Romney had clinched the Republican presidential nomination. Here is Romney expressing his disdain for Americans who back the president:

For your information, Mr. Romney, I take personal offense to the ignorant assertion that one is a lesser being for having a different opinion than you. My gosh, and here I thought there was slight hyperbole on the portrayal of this man's apparent lack of empathy. But, no, this guy literally does not does not understand those outside his situation, nor does not care to build understanding. Protip: If you plan on leading a country, it's probably a good idea to not have an outright disrespectful -not to mention unfactual- opinion of 47% of its inhabitants.

And with that, I'm sending in my voter registration papers. It's worth the trouble just so I can send him pictures of myself rolling around in imaginary welfare cheques when he loses the election.

Contending that he is a self-made millionaire who earned his own fortune, Romney insisted, "I have inherited nothing."

His father was the governor of Michigan and head of a major car company. He inherited money, connections and was afforded opportunities granted by his father's money and job which he otherwise would never have had.

Romney went on: "[M]y job is is not to worry about those people. I'll never convince them they should take personal responsibility and care for their lives."

It's fascinating how a man who doesn't even understand the basic function of a government is actually a viable candidate for presidency.

Wow. I've never heard of someone with such disdain for those less fortunate than themselves that they despise the fact that they think anyone should have easy access to a basic necessity for human life like food. Get that, dirty poors? You're not entitled to fucking food.

The face of the Republican Party, ladies and gents.

You should just change the title of the thread to "Romney sucks".

Or we could be positive and change it to "Obama rocks!"
