The Democrats are a shoe-in for a New Jersey win, right?

Definitely. From easiest to most difficult, we have:

1. Taking the NJ Governorship / Retaining the NJ Legislature

2. Passing the Maine ballot initiative

3. Retaking the Washington State Senate

4. Taking the Virginia Governorship

5. Taking the Virginia House

There's also a ballot initiative in Ohio today on capping drug prices the government buys. It's seen as possibly paving the way towards single payer if it passes.

I'm really anxious to see these results. Dems need a big win

A really big win would be pulling off an upset and stealing the US House seat that's up for grabs today in Utah.

Hasn't Utah lately been shifting away from hard red?

A little, as memory serves?

The effects have been mitigated by gerrymandering that has basically erased the Democrats from any relevance in the state.

The statewide count is less pessimistic. Gillespie has a lead, but only of 4% with 3% of the results in.

Here's room for pessimism: Northam is doing a lot better than his running mate.

You know, the black candidate that he deliberately downplayed in the campaign, because that's not racist at all.

Does Northam still have a chance to win? Do any of the 3 big VA races still have any chance for a Democrat win?

Ehh, I'd like to never see someone say "the Democrats are a shoe-in" again, considering that's part of what cost Hillary the election and what may end up costing Northam.

Oh, absolutely. With 12% of the votes in, Gillespie's lead is only 2%. Most of the votes being counted are from the southwestern counties, so that means Gillespie's base of support is already being tapped.

In fairness NJ Republicans are fairly extinct. They needed an Obama Presidency to get their base to put a Republican in power. The rest of the state stayed blue.

Wait, 2%? I see roughly 5% on CNN's election results page. =S

EDIT: As soon as I said this, an update came in with 17% results in and suddenly Ed's lead dropped to 1.7%. lol

NYT seems to have the most on-time results.

Currently it's 13%, with Gillespie having a 3% lead.

Of course, the results remain concentrated towards the southwest. Barely any northeastern counties have reported.

Northam's in the lead! =O

EDIT: Just checked the Virginia House races and...wow. A lot of GOP incumbents are losing at the moment!

EDIT 2: Holy crap. https://twitter.com/FenitN/status/928061159995035648

EDIT 3: People from 538 are already projecting a win for Democrats in all. THREE. RACES. https://twitter.com/Redistrict/with_replies

I counted 13 GOP incumbents being unseated by Democrats, with no seats lost by Democrats.

Results aren't complete, but...

Suddenly the Democrats taking 17 seats and the House doesn't seem so farfetched.

If the GOP loses the Virginia House, it is officially time to panic. Not even gerrymandering could save them.

CNN's projecting that Phil Murphy will be NJ's next governor.

Also, something awesome I just found out: https://twitter.com/Redistrict/status/928064739535671297

For the first time ever, Virginia has elected a transgender person to their state legislature. <3

@Lord Bergamo (Ogilvie) Here's some interesting data you may like to see. Turnout for this race was MASSIVE. https://twitter.com/gelliottmorris/status/928066095235391489

EDIT: NBC's projecting a Northam win! https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/928066408147283968

And so is the AP: https://twitter.com/AP/status/928067758314672128

It's official. Northam wins. <3

Results for Maine's Medicaid initiative are coming in. If it passes, it will put more pressure on the national GOP's Obamacare repeal efforts.

Even better: the person she defeated was Bob Marshall, author of Virginia's attempted bathroom bill.

Laser guided karma right there.

Happy for you guys in Virginia. Good things can happen when good people vote, let's keep it going into next year and all years.

My count saw 14 with the Dems winning and several more that are still tossups despite a GOP lead. Today might be a very, very good day for Democrats.

Here's some more data that may interest @Lord Bergamo (Ogilvie)

https://twitter.com/CBSNews/status/928073189548228608

VA exit polls suggest that Northam may not have won based on anti-Trump feelings. Not even half said that their vote was related to Trump.

So he won so well, and it may not have been necessarily because of Trump.

Now if they can stay motivated when Trump isn't the President, I'll believe that 100%.

Virginia's one of those fun states that has an election every single year.

There's a small win under the radar:

Lee Carter, a Democrat and a member of the DSA, defeated Jackson Miller, a huge upset there. The Democratic establishment abandoned Carter, who ran to the left of the establishment both fiscally and environmentally and took no corporate or party money.

To quote Shaun King earlier tonight:

NBC's projecting a Dem win for VA Attorney General, too! https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/928078695209807872
