I'm someone who pays too much attention to Sonic stuff on the internet and I did not see this happen, so I doubt that there was any more "outrage" than with other games like Overwatch and Fire Emblem Heroes. Again: Runners isn't the only game to have done this and it was far from the last.

EDIT: Actually you just reminded me I made a thread about how scummy it is on NeoGAF back then. Some people went "yeah this is shitty", most others went "eh that's how Japanese F2P games are ¯\_(ツ)_/¯". This is on one of the biggest gaming forums around and I haven't seen anyone else make a big deal out of it, so I have no idea where you're getting this from.

I could have sworn I'd seen something about the U.K. Gambling Commission taking a negative view of a Sonic mobile game, not necessarily Runners, in a comment or something, but I can't track it down now.  Might have been bunching it together with a bunch of other smartphone games with in-app purchases.  Might be worth tipping them off next time; it was European rating systems that eventually put paid to the Game Corner in Pokemon, and that didn't even involve real money.

No matter what the roulette was both panned and legally/morally questioned in the end and SEGA knows all too well at the present they can't afford the franchise to be in that kind of light, so I'm not expecting any gambling to return anytime soon, if ever again in the manner Runners attempted. As far as Casino stages where there's zero money, real currency that is, being used, sure. It will be in games that way.

But not in a Runners way.

No it didn't

You made a post about it on Gaf, I pointed it out in my follow up review of the game, some people said 'yeah this is shady'.

But there was absolutely nothing legal wise, at least to my knowledge that Sega did which got them into hot water.

Unless someone has the article or documentation that says otherwise, this just didn't happen.

Is there any real advantage to getting a mobile game on PC? Or is it just an alternative for people who don't like playing on their phones...

I can't imagine there is a major modding scene for that kind of thing, but who knows.

The real advantage is that I would be all over playing this on PC, my phone can barely handle its own phone functions.

Well, Sonic Dash is available at Microsoft Store and it's one of the most popular apps of the Store, so yeah, I think that people have a bit of interest on it. Is this or use something like BlueStacks.

For me it's a bit interesting, because I don't use my phone to play games, just to talk with other people and listen to music.

I only played Sonic Runners a little because I got really angry at the random roulette (I wanted Classic Sonic) and uninstalled it.
I really liked the gameplay and when I wanted to play it again it was too late, it had already shut down.

So I am really hyped for this, a new Sonic Runner without the random roulette and that can be played offline (so it won't vanish if it gets shut down in the future).

I also really hope they use various level tropes instead of just Lost World levels like they did in the first one (the artwork that was leaked gives me hope in this regard).

tbh, i hope it is a freemium. I am unfamiliar with e payment methods. 

 

Whether it is online or offline, I would play it anyway. What I am looking for is that satisfaction everytime i complete a section.

I mean... Granted the company might not always be up to snuff when it comes to launching a title, but I'd like to think there'd be more meat to the launch than just saying "Here it is, now play." basically.

The original Runners got an almost console-like reveal didn't it? Of course, maybe after Runners failure they don't want to hype up another handheld title like that again... I dunno...

But the problem with this being the case, if it is launching without marketing, would be showing a lack of confidence in their product, and at the present, it's something consumers really don't need.

...I'm still furious DASH 2 BOOM didn't release more characters...

I legitimately enjoyed that game and was hyped for more. I was dead set on getting Perci as a playable character. I hate it when they drop a game like that...
