Star Wars Battlefront 2!

Well consider me hyped. They seem to have addressed all the complaints people had about the first game and we might be looking at a Titanfall > Titanfall 2 / Assassin's Creed 1 > Assassin's Creed 2 type scenario.

Spoiler

I mean I really enjoyed the first game too so...

now the real question is, will battlefront II be on par, or better, than battlefront II?

also we already have some possible dlc's ( the last jedi heroes)? or will it be a pre order exclusive ? (which i doubt it)

anyway, I'M HYPED, bring it on!!!

There is only one true Battlefront II.

You've got a lot to do, DICE. Bring it on.

Oh, wow, I was expecting Sequel era and maybe even stuff from the cartoons, comics, and novels, but Prequel era stuff is actually surprising. Now, I'm less sure about the other stuff, though.

The story seems to be from the Empire side, but I hope a later trailer shows off an additional campaign for the Rebels. Would be cool to play it from both sides. I'm happy their adding a campaign either way, though.

The Last Jedi heroes are early skin unlocks. In the trailer you see Kylo Ren and Rey however they're in their TFA outfits.

The first game had a similar early unlock thing going on with some emotes and a weapon.

The trailer made no mention of a singleplayer story, so I wonder if the TIE Pilot thing could have something to do with The Last Jedi? I mean, either way it's cool.

All eras represented! My dreams have come true, oh boy, oh boy, oh boy, ohboyohboyohboyohboy! Excite!

My wishlist:

  • Sabotage to become one of the central game modes. It's just so much fun in the Bespin map pack for Battlefront I, and I'd love to see it taken to Coruscant, Jedha City and other metropoli. Substitute Tibanna Gas generators for whatever makes sense in the context - Kyber Crystal containers, etc.
  • Playable Y-Wings and TIE Bombers. The Rogue Squadron games let you conduct your own bombing runs on Star Destroyers, destroying turbolaser batteries at your leisure. I want that capability back.
  • Heroes/Villains confined to the eras they lived in, at least in the 'main' multiplayer modes. It'd kinda spoil it for me to see Count Dooku tearing it up on Eadu, or Luke Skywalker taking on Darth Maul. Save that for the Hero Battle mode for all worlds/eras?
  • Jynn Erso should get a complement of bodyguards in the form of her squadmates from Rogue One. It's not very fair that Krennic got his Death Troopers and Jynn got nothing.
  • VR/4K content should not detract from the base game, or its DLC.
  • Slave I should get to use those awesome seismic imploders from AotC.
  • A Phantom Menace map set in the middle of the Boonta Eve Classic Pod Race? Lets EA gauge interest for a new Pod Racer game, and it'd be hectic as fuck to have to dodge the incoming pod racers.

I believe they've said in interviews this game is going to have a campaign and that it'll be made by Motive Studios, Jade Raymond's studio.

A Prequel era map I'd want is Gungan City. I know people like to make fun of Gungans, but I always loved the look of the city.

Your correct they did sat they will have a campaign. Honestly the trailer may not say it but gives a sense of one. More than Battlefront did.  I just hope it's relatively long

Oto Gunga is a good shout - would we get to use the Gungans' bipedal Kaadu mounts and aquatic vehicles, in place of fighters and tanks? It'd present interesting challenges not found in other locations, that's for sure.

There are dozens of potential battlefields to choose from - I can see there being several DLC packs with additional content from the older movies and the new.

The singleplayer campaign will take us from Jedi to Force Awakens, it sounds like. Can't wait.

Ok so since the game has now officially been announced we have a bunch of new information!

Here's a list of confirmed features

  • A campaign that takes place between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens
  • All eras are being represented. Including their respective armies. Some maps confirmed are Kamino, Endor, Theed, Tatooine, Hoth, Starkiller Base
  • Split-screen co-op on consoles
  • Classes are back.
  • Space battles are in. Including boarding capital ships.
  • Customisable heroes, including abilities
  • Ships are also customisable and come in different roles such as bombers, starfighters, transport.
  • There is no season pass. Rumour is they're going for a Titanfall 2 situation.

So all in all pretty fantastic news. They seem to have taken everyone's complaints into account.

Seems like it might be a good deal more meaty a story than you might expect from a Battlefront game.

Yavin IV will be a playable location in the game, too.

Was that a lucrehulk versus an isd?!  That would mean cross era battles, that would be sick

I am weak and easily swayed, but hell, I want it so bloody bad!

Oh and calling it now:

Spoiler

Luke and Special Forces Woman get together and make Rey. This is why the story must be canon - it's Rey's origin story.

Or not, whatever, they're not the boss of me.

Our evil player character had better stay evil, I'm predicting she'll turn to good, and that sucks. We want Imperial stories, not another Jedi or Rebellion story!

Interesting so far, I'll wait...

It's probably the closest we'll ever come to a 'From The Empire's Point Of View' story, from what we've seen up to now, so we have plenty of reasons to hope. The Battle of Jakku looks fucking intense in the trailer - seeing it from below in the "first" Battlefront was cool enough, but getting to be all up in that action? Hell.yes. I can see there being some boarding actions or something there.

Also probably the closest we'll ever come to a sequel of any kind to SW: Republic Commando. Man, I wish they'd have made more of those - I really wanted an Imperial Commando game series, set during the early years of the Empire, connecting the prequels to the OT. I guess the SW: Rebels animated show serves that role now, though in my view there's always room for more stories! Playing as part of a Death Trooper squad, traveling to the galaxy's most intractable hot zones and greasing the wheels of war, guarding Imperial dignitaries and facilities likely to be attacked by Rebels, etc. Shit, that'd have been a great game series.

I doubt that the player character will switch sides. I think we'll be playing as her during both Imperial and First Order operations, with the final mission(s) likely taking place...

Spoiler

...on Starkiller Base during the end of Force Awakens, either ending with her dying in the battle, or escaping the Base before it's destroyed, leading into a 'tease' of sorts for The Last Jedi.

I'm liking the look of it so far, but I'd like to see more gameplay. E3, don't disappoint me.

  • 1 month later...

EA Play, EA's version of E3, is today, and Battlefront II is expected to take center stage.

Here's some leaked gameplay footage - set in Theed, this map looks a bit like a Star Wars equivalent to Battlefield 1's Ballroom Blitz.

[Bad video link]

Edit: Well I guess it got taken down. Anyway it looked pretty awesome, hectic as hell, and super pretty. I'm sure we'll see it again later.

Edit #2: Multiplayer trailer and gameplay, straight from EA Play 2017!

Oh lordy it's so pretty, and it looks so.damn.fun!

I've poured over 200 hours into the current Battlefront, in fact I just reached level 100 and bought the Scarif Shoretrooper outfit right before watching the EA Play press event, so yeah, I'm in like Finn.

We saw a roll at one point in the footage, and I'm pretty sure I saw some manual rolling at one point with one of the starfighters as well. While this isn't getting perfectly to what Pandemic gave us, it certainly feels like a great upgrade.
Special classes are included within the battle point system along with vehicles and heroes, and from the small amounts we saw of that list, I'd say special classes are mid-range in terms of the points you need.
I'm loving what I've seen, and this should certainly be a whole league ahead of the first. Also, Darth Maul just looks absolute divine in action. If we're allowed to swap heroes on our battle point list, he will be staying there permanently.

One thing to note: A 'Starfighter Assault' game mode was mentioned, near the end of the multiplayer trailer (the X-Wings and Millennium Falcon shooting down TIE Fighters in the asteroid field) might be related to it.

Such a game mode was on my dream list of game modes to bring in, given how popular Walker Assault has been in BF. I thought it was pie in the sky though, I didn't think they'd actually do it.

So we've got a bunch more info due to Dennis, the game's design director, joining in on a stream

Quote
  • Droidekas may not be at launch, but Dennis wants them in the game.

  • Same amount of prequel content as sequel content. (No FAVOURITES)

  • Phase 1 Troopers are planet specific. Kamino = Phase 1

  • Boba still has flamethrower its his melee

  • Darth maul choke controllable.

  • Darth maul side steps instead of blocking.

  • REY AND OTHER HEROES CAN ONLY PARRY SHOTS BUT MORE EXPERIENCED LIGHTSABER WIELDERS CAN REFLECT (VADER)

  • Not all troopers die in one slash with a lightsaber

  • HEAVY units have 200hp, Darth Maul has 700 (shows how quick they die and how beneficial the regen is)

  • Different squad everytime you spawn, to promote squadplay.

  • Info on playing with friends is coming later on, they arent sure yet.

  • ROGUE ONE CONTENT OUTSIDE OF ROGUE ONE: SCARIF (the dlc) CONFIRMED

  • FOV SLIDER

  • Skirmish info later on, but its a lot bigger than BF2015, but still not a mirror of multiplayer.

  • Skirmish being treated as a bridge from single player to multiplayer

  • Anti cheat is getting improved.

  • Rolling is actually good now and not abusable like the current game. No dodging and shooting while rolling

  • Hutt contract system coming back but its changed.

  • You can roll backwards, sideways and forward.

  • white hitmarkers for hits and red for kills

  • Cooldown system, you can cool down manually whenever like reloading,

  • if you completely overheat your gun, a bar appears, if you click in yellow it is instant cooldown, if you click in the green you get a quick period of no overheating, (SKILL)

  • Officer battle command increases heavy HP from 200 to 250

  • 3 star cards and 1 passive card, similar to a trait.

  • Default heavy 4th card is defender, recieve battle points for taking damage.

  • SCOPING INCREASES ACCURACY NOW!

  • Crouching INCREASES ACCURACY NOW!

  • Standing still INCREASES ACCURACY NOW!

  • For the sake of the demo, the MTT always blows up the palace doors. It will be balanced at launch.

  • Dennis agrees to add WATCH THOSE WRIST ROCKETS audio line.

  • Dennis doesnt confirm wether or not all unique units (B2, Jumptrooper) have 2 abilities

  • Different classes have different health regen times.

  • Han Solo has a proximity bomb ability

  • Emotes confirmed for everyone

  • MANUAL ROLLING of starfighters

  • Sometimes in galactic assault, more than 2 heroes per side (not all the time)

  • BACTA BOMB NOT RETURNING, but something similar in its place.

  • if you crash into another ship, you both die, no more bullshit.

  • Galactic assault UNIQUE FOR EACH PLANET. Always attack/Defend, but unique objectives per planet. Expands on walker assault, Galactic assault on Hoth IS walker assault from the 1st game.

  • Heroes have set abilities, the customisation comes in the form of upgrades

  • you can still switch shoulders

Any word on that Starfighter Assault game mode? Is Sabotage (awesome game mode unique to BF2105's Bespin DLC) returning?

Emotes confirmed for everyone

ryU1AEF.gif

Will we be able to go emote crazy before battles again? I love that part about BF2105 - everyone goofing off and having fun before being unleashed.
