The synths are pretty awful, especially with the tag team music. I think Sunset Heights is alright other than that.

Sunset Heights is a pretty cool sounding track, I agree. But it's being made to sound much worse than it is. God knows what's in store for the Classic level themes here.

Great to hear some good guitar in a Sonic game again. Really liking Sunset Heights and Fist Bump is starting to grow on me. Tag Team GHZ isn't that bad either.

Wondering if that White Jungle remix will be exclusive to the Shadow DLC.

You didn't read the statuses from the last 4 hours?

I read a lot of people going "boy I can't wait for Sonic Forces music haters to get here" so I guess that was earlier than four hours ago.

Edit: Also in the past I've seen people defend that awful dubstep remix of Stardust Speedway and I'm still convinced that's maybe the worst song I've heard come out of a Sonic game, so

Sunset Heights would actually be pretty good if that garbage synth never kicked in.

I mean almost everything is subjective. Do I find it better than the music from the Adventure era? No. Do I find it better than something like Lost World? Yeah. But we've only heard a sample so far.

Consider that this is the music they felt was good enough to put out for promotional reasons. This was their slice that they said "yeah, this is what we want people to hear before release. This will get them hyped up."

Those synths are straight up abrasive in some places. Normally I'd be in agreement about subjectivity but I think some of these songs could be used as a litmus test for whether someone is tone deaf.

That was one status.

I, along with others made statuses about how great the soundtrack is.

There are people like me who like the Metal Sonic theme. But I agree, it's a little too much dupstep.

This may come as a shock to you but I in fact don't spend hours at a time perusing statuses on Sonic Stadium Dot Com.

I guess I'm just confused now cause that was kind of my point, that I was surprised and a bit confused that people are into this soundtrack. Like, good for you if you get something out of it, but some of these songs literally give me a headache due to the pitch these synths are whaling at. It's probably the most upsetting thing to me about the soundtrack because I think the songs actually could be great if they had better instrumentation.

So I was never a fan of the music for the game....

Buuuuut... playing the game the other day...

I really enjoyed the music; even the Green Hill Boss fight was quite catchy. After I finished the Avatar stage I found myself humming the tune and singing the lyrics for a few hours after it, it's that addictive.

We have a Sonic game with pretty good music so far.

It sounds a lot better in game, I think it's because the music accompanies what's going on quite well, especially the initial Eggman boss fight which has that silly sounding synth beats, it oddly works when in game.

Yeah I was listening to Sunset Heights and Tag Team GHZ on my morning walk, and there were definitely times where the synth would kick in and I'd be thinking "eh I wish there was more guitars." Nevertheless, it didn't completely ruin the songs for me--I still like them.

And like, whatever, I'm sure my musical tastes aren't the best, but the parts that I like are enough for me to say that I like the songs so far.

The ones that specifically stand out to me as being exceptionally poor is Classic's Green Hill, his boss fight theme, and probably Stardust Speedway. I think they're grating. The more modern tracks have something going for them that are just brought down by some poor instrumentation, but on the bright side there's no way some remixes don't come out that reduce or replace the more problematic elements of those songs. I'm genuinely looking forward to that because I think they otherwise sound great.

I just wish Ohtani didn't use a saw wave for the lead in every song. Not only does it get annoying after a while, it also makes the soundtrack kinda samey.

Also, is it really that damn surprising that people like the music in this game despite the saw wave abuse? I mean, this is the #1 song right now:

I get you find the music annoying. So do I at times. Others don't. That's how opinions work. This conceited "well I don't like it, so no one else possibly could" attitude people seem to have in regards to friggin' everything (bit especially music) pisses me off. Honestly.

Yeah that's about the same as how I feel overall--the classic songs aren't good. The Modern stuff has potential and I'm looking forward to hearing more.

idk how man but someone anaged to get clean vesions of these themes

I'm not against the synths, but Ohtani isn't the best working with them, that is clear. That's too bad, because SEGA has two great composers that can do magic with synths: Hideki Naganuma and Teruhiko Nakagawa (Sonic Rush).

I like Sunset Heights, the first 10 seconds sounds like something from Shadow the Hedgehog (the game). But man, these synths :/

like Sunset Heights. But what the heck is up with that synth. It's a distorted saw or something? It sounds awful. Replace it with some other instrument and the track sounds great.

I love Ohtani but what is he doing?

Exactly. The synth sounds like it should only be a placeholder, something to fill the space whilst he gets around to recording the live guitars instead. But of course we know that that is not the case.

Listening to Sunset Heights and Tag Team Green Hill side by side, the two tracks totally lack any unique identity or connection to their respective levels - if the two tracks were swapped over I wouldn't think anything of it. "Samey" is definitely the correct word. I have this same issue with some of the ShTH and SA2 (Tails and Eggman levels) soundtracks where a lot of the tracks sound too similar in style, but they didn't have also have an incredibly duff lead synth. I wonder if the rest of the soundtrack will keep up this synth, because it's rather uncharacteristic of Ohtani to fall back on one instrument like this.

I noticed that every gameplay style also has a unique musical style.

Modern Sonic has the synth in every level he appears (Sunset Heights/Tag Team)
Classic Sonic has the bip bop 16 bit knock off and the OC has the J-pop themes.

So yeah, I think we'll hear more of that awful synth.

I personally hoped for a little better music at some points. Sonic 4´s alike Green Hill is a big disappoitment from Jun Senoue. Yes, I know that they couldn´t (or wanted not to ?) use original Green Hill, perhaps of being repetitive, but... common. I appreciate Flying Battery music and even others like Sonic Heroes songs all made by Jun, but this ? And Casino Forest... oh... the rest is not bad, but not all time good either.

I love pretty much all of the Sonic Forces music that's been shown, especially the Avatar stage songs.

And Infinite's song... I want that sucker in my music library BAD. xD
