311 is an alternative rock band that tinkered with other genres as well.  They formed in 1988-1990 in Omaha, Nebraska.  They got really popular with the song All Mixed Up (which I posted above) in 1995  Even non-311 fans enjoy that song.
 
Their other song "Down" got them popular as well and that one is perhaps more popular than All Mixed Up.  It's their Smells Like Teen Spirit (Nirvana song).
