Gee I wonder if he's hinting something

I just keep wondering how funny it would be if IDW made an announcement like this;

"Yeah, we're totally hiring Mr. Flynn, thing is we haven't talked about it with him yet so even he didn't know about it before..."

The lights go down..

A shadowy figure appears...

The lights come on...!

Richard Elson: You were expecting Flynn! But it's me; 'the Elson!'

Did you just make... a Jojo refference?

Anyway, I can't wait until Sunday. Are IDW comics sent around the entire world or is it US/UK only.

[Start Scene]

"And now ladies and gentlemen, we introduce to you our brand new writer for the new line of Sonic the Hedgehog comics-! KEN PENDERS!"

Ken walks out wearing a white suit, smoking a cigar, and holding a cane, wearing a cape that has the LARA-SU CHRONICLES designs on it.

He screams "I'M BAAAAAAAAACK!"

I wake up in a cold sweat, panting, looking around. Then I hug my little plushie of Stitch and sigh.

"It's a good thing we live in a world where something so terrible can never happen."

[End Scene]

Well, there's still the thing about nothing being as likely as unlikely is...

But in this case, the wave function telling us in which point of time t Penders is in place x (which is the position of him being a writer for Sonic comics) tells us to wait for...

...

... I was once told that physicists specialised in theoretical physics only need to know how to calculate up until three, and after that some time later I was told how ∞ is a number lots of bigger than three for these physicists...

You can guess the t from this.

So glad to see at least one artist from the Archie crew moved over to IDW. And hooooo if that's the cover art for the first issue I'm so down. It looks so cool! I was expecting some obscure artist or someone who hasn't drawn Sonic before given how it's been for few other IDW titles :S But I like what I'm seeing so far.

Looks like Tyson Hesse will be an artist for the book

Outside of Spaz I'd say Tyson was the most obvious pick.

Considering how everybody loves Mega Drive and not to mention he did the intro for Mania yeah.

"Continue the legacy of the fastest comics around". Alright, it's becoming exceedingly clear they're still referring to the Archie legacy in terms of saying it's continuing that legacy (since Archie comics are at around 25 years of publishing before the cancellation). Makes me wonder if this means even if the timeline is reset, comic characters are on the table, considering they mention new and old characters (Old likely meaning Ray, Mighty, Nack, (Hopefully the FF) etc).

I read "continue the legacy" as just meaning continue making Sonic comics. I honestly doubt this is going to have any affiliation with Archie material. It'd be nice, but I'm personally not getting my hopes up for seeing those characters again, even in completely new takes.

It's not much to go on in the slightest, but I'm up for this so far. The promo art is lovely.

Depends if Ian is involved, he cares about the forgotten characters, and obviously he is the owner of his creations.

I still want to know if IDW ships in my country...

I think they just mean the legacy of the comics overall, not the actual lore's legacy. don't get your hopes up.

Man I'm gonna be ticked off if all they brought back was Tyson Hesse, he wasn't the only talented artist on Archie's team but thats all that SEGA recognizes.

Depends on whether Ian is joining this book and owns the Archie characters he created, or if Archie got the rights to them to avoid another Pendering.

Either way, "new characters" convinces me that IDW Sonic will be a new universe, and "old characters" probably just means the established main cast of the games.

SEGA mandates mean that SEGA owns all of the characters from Archie created by Ian, as well as FF, and Breezie and the others. Put simply, SEGA themselves made sure another Pendering couldn't happen by making sure they own the characters this time, there's no reason Ian would need to be there for those characters (Don't get me wrong though, I absolutely want Ian on board here).

On that note, Ian could be likely. He's done work for IDW before for some TMNT comics, and on top of that, like Tyson, he's worked on non-comic Sonic projects, even writing a few Boom episodes.

He isn't. SEGA owns whatever he made for the comic. The whole blow up with Penders and the others was because up until Ian came along, Archie couldn't keep their paperwork in order.

The cover art looks really nice. Think we'll get a synopsis of the first issue? Also are IDW issues the same length as Archie issues?

I'm just sad that if he is involved and SEGA won't let him use his creations, he will have to start over with creating a new universe when he inevitably will have to introduce more new characters from scratch. What a waste for Relic, Eclipse, Coral, Razor, Gold, etc.
