Forces story revealed?

This youtuber posted a video saying there was an article (below) revealing some of the story FINALLY!

You can check it out here: http://sonicunited.org/2017/10/04/famitsu-1910-issue-revealed-new-sonic-forces-screenshots-new-details-about-wips-etc/

Spoiler

Sonic is missing? Customer hero is the main character. Espio and Silver have somewhat important roles? Espio with CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT?  Does this mean more playable characters besides Sonic, C Sonic, Shadow and Custom?

Unless there's a primary source that says so, I'd take it with a bucket of salt.

I would be skeptical about this. The translation just says that they're "seen as hero figures". Which could easily just mean they're the tough guys fighting Eggman's robots and saving innocents, and not that they have any special role in the actual story.

This came straight from early translations of the recent Famitsu, I think.

It's pretty interesting to see things from another character's perspective as it makes Sonic's presence feel more special at least.

Sonic is Missing which causes Eggbotnik to conquer the world and that OC the Hedgechidnox is the main character thing has been going around ever since the first details of Sonic Forces' story has been revealed.

There was also something about you start the game as OC the Edgelord and you end up rescuing Sonic midgame where you start playing as him. Which fucking sucks if it's true.

This is actually kind of interesting, honestly. How did Sonic disappear? How long has he been gone? Did Infinite help Eggman take over the world, or did Eggman just recently create him to deal with the newly-returned Sonic? (Probably the latter, given Tails' unfamiliarity with Infinite in that cutscene).

Yeah we've known about this since Larry got the CaC right

Really makes me wonder how the character stories are going to be handled, though. You start with the avatar, and Sonic is missing. That means Tails and Classic Sonic will be searching for him on their own, as the casino forest footage showed, but that's three worlds into the game.

Tails was present with Sonic in the Infinite reveal cutscene, though, which is also tied to Park Avenue's assault, and most likely the end of Modern Sonic's stage, if the villains reveal trailer is anything to go by.

Classic Sonic also has a stage in Park Avenue called "Ghost Town", which is far more destroyed than any of the other stages before it. But Park Avenue is supposed to be a beginning zone, right?

When does Eggman attack Park Avenue? Is it throughout the story rather than a one time event?

How is the player going to switch between characters? It can't be how Generations did it where it's every other level, since Classic Sonic is searching for Modern at least 2 levels into the game...

And it can't be on a character-story-by-character-story basis, as the Avatar's Green Hill level is set after the tag team level, if the exploded pyramid in the background is anything to go by...

Also, with the way these levels seem to be jumbled together in no specific order, what if every single level we've seen so far is actually no where near the fist levels of the game. That'd be.. Something else, lmao

Or, maybe the game is way bigger than think, the levels we have seen are the beginning stages and there is at least ten more stages to go after Green Hill and Park Avenue. Even with major plot elements being already solved.

Just speculating. But is hard to know for certain, I extremely curious how the games first hour is going to be. (Hopefully not too long until first look gameplay previews start to pop up.)

Where do you think the metal sonic fight takes place in park avenue? Is it after sonic gets beaten up by infinite or before It?

I think it goes this way:

Avt prk ave.

Modern green hill

Tag team green hill

Avt green hill

Modern park ave

Boss battle

Something happens to sonic

Classic park ave

Casino forest.

Or all the park ave. Stages and then green hill stages. Idk

I'm gonna spill what I got from a friend earlier today:

Spoiler

This scene above is from the very first CGI cutscene. Eggman caught Modern Sonic off-guard and locked him inside a mechanical prison base.

World goes to shit (in weeks) because Sonic is the protagonist and nobody else can do anything (they try to fight back tho', but in vain). Meanwhile, Eggman got his hands in the Phantom Ruby by coincidence (this happens after the Green Hill boss battle). Yes, Classic Sonic brought the Ruby from the Mania dimension. With its power, Eggman "creates" Infinite (apparently, Infinite was inside the Ruby this whole time, he is basically the Ruby), to finally and literally ERASE the pesk resistance, since Modern Sonic has escaped (you, the avatar, rescues him early on from the mechanical prison base, which ends with the scene from the trailer when Sonic protects him back). From there on, Sonic and you meet with the group in the city after another level. There's a general commotion when Modern Sonic returns, they explain the situation, but Modern Sonic decides to just blast ahead (as usual), and gets his ass kicked. This is when everybody, including both Sonics realize they got approach this situation more carefully than ever, and rescue the world piece by piece, kinda like Unleashed.

That's all he told me. Oh, and yes, Sky Sanctuary is back, but it's VERY different from Generations. The other levels are all new.

There's no way Sunset Heights isn't the first level.

Nice try. That's definitely not a CGI cutscene.

Isn't Tails already with Classic Sonic on the Green Hill boss?

So why he is with Sonic when he get his ass kicked?

I thought Tails and Sonic wouldn't meet each other again through majority of the game!

Hmmm... :)

Now that we have a lot of story details about the game that are (probably) true, I'm curious as to what people here think of Forces's plot. I imagine some opinions have changed now that we have more info instead of speculation based on limited info.

There's a lot of elements to Forces's story that remind me of numerous Sonic fanfics, but in my opinion, fanfic is not inherently bad. There's a logic behind these stories, and these fanfic cliches became such for a reason. For example, the "Sonic mysteriously disappears and world goes to crap" cliche is a good way of exploring what the other characters would do if Eggman was put in an advantageous situation and Sonic could not guide them (I can't think of a Sonic game where Sonic doesn't prove vital in terms of coming up with strategies on the spot when the boss gets dangerous or, after Sonic 1, helps another character get on the best path for success at some point so they can defeat evil together). The cliche that often is included in fanfics about a disappeared Sonic is having Sonic come back after being found by OC the Hedgehog is also common because its a good way of putting Sonic back into a situation, everybody expects the world of him, but he struggles live up to his legend because not only have the "Sonic tales" greatly exaggerated his capabilities and acts of heroism, but his old tactics don't work anymore and he may or may not have lost his touch anyway.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that cliches aren't inherently bad. Most exist for a reason and can make for good, if somewhat predictable plots, if executed well in the writing. In terms of Forces, its teetering between good and disaster. Once I see more cutscenes and dialogue, I'll be able to make a full judgement. As of now, I think its better than Lost World's plot, but Lost World's plot wasn't very good so there's still potential for me to hate Forces's story.

It looks like the OC avatar is going to have flaws, for example, the way OC acts all awkward and surprised when he gets a hard backpat from Knux could show that he's easily startled or even cowardly (actually, that would be interesting-- a character that wants to be a cool hero, stumbles across a legendary hero who was thought to be forever disappeared in an event that got him notability from resistance forces, and puts on a front of being a cool hero, but is deep down really scared and unconfident and it shows in some scenes). That, and while OC is welcome in the resistance, its implied from that promotional message to the resistance that Knuckles pretty much lets in anybody who isn't blatantly one of Eggman's stooges and thinks that the OC still needs to prove his fighting capabilities. This is promising. I plan on inserting an anthro version of my dog into the game, and I don't want her to be portrayed as Mary Sue the Dog. If nothing else, I don't get the impression of Edgy the Hedgy from OC. Again, good.

However, my opinion of Infinite is unchanged. Its possible that he could have hidden depths that get revealed or implied in the full game, but as of now he's Mephiles the Black Arms Hedgehog Thing as far as I'm concerned. Eggman seems to be his usual hammy self, at least.

Espio and Silver are back and potentially important! Yay! Can we get Vector, Charmy, and Blaze to be potentially important too?

It's true. The avatar is the first character you'll play as, according to my source, although I'm pretty sure this was already confirmed long ago. Secondly is Classic Sonic in Green Hill. The resistance has "spot" Sonic running there, and Tails decides to go check it out, this is when both meet. Eggman goes there too. They fight, Eggman threatens them, nabs the Phantom Ruby, goes back to lab, and "creates" Infinite.

Modern Sonic is rescued early on, not mid game.

I dunno, if Eggman can get Sonic locked in a room, why can't he flood it with poison gas or make the walls close in or something and just kill him off right then and there? And it'd be weird for Eggman to get the drop on Sonic naturally and basically take over the world, and only later pour all his hatred into making an edgy furry to fight him. Like, narratively, Eggman showing up with Infinite in tow should come at the start of the game as his big return since the last game and not after he's already had a pretty decisive win.

So I'm thinking Modern City Stage is the very start of Eggman's attack. He hits hard and wrecks a bunch of shit before Sonic shows up, but Sonic pushes back, maybe fights Metal or Shadow, then Infinite shows up and kicks his ass (we've seen parts of this scene) and warps him off through space or time or both. Then Classic Sonic shows up because ???, meets up with Tails, and they go off searching for Sonic, leaving the rest of the characters to eventually form the resistance.

...it still feels like it doesn't entirely fit, though. There's plenty of NPC chatter in Modern City Stage which makes it seem like the resistance already exists. And then I don't know where the Avatar character fits into this, his City Stage feels like it's at about the same time as Sonic's (similar level of destruction, at least).

So, who fuckin' knows, I guess.

This is the same guy that sneaked into Sonic's house while Sonic was sleeping, and changed his shoes with another pair that makes him slow.

Well yeah, but that was when Sonic could be fun and silly, and not when it had to be "serious".

You telling me Sonic Labyrinth isn't serious?

But yeah, I will give you the benefit of the doubt Jango, but I can also say that I have a source that says that Sonic dies in the first 10 minutes and the Avatar turns into the new protagonist of the series which is now called Wolfie the Hedgehog.

I'll wait and see how Forces' story develops, because I'm really intrigued for some things.
