Are You Going to Buy Sonic Forces?

I've no current plans on buying it. This will be among the first mainline Sonic games for a LONG time that I don't think I'll be buying... Regardless I will be playing it a week or so after release if my PC can handle it. Yohoo Hoo!

Well I'm at least asking my dad to buy it for my birthday on PC lol. At least then if I don't end up liking the game I don't feel like I wasted money on it. But I won't lie. The absolute negativity surrounding the title everywhere I go might end up making it hard for me to actually enjoy the damn game. I do plan on streaming it. Personally, I'd rather we either just go back to Adventure style or Lost World style gameplay rather than boost because I don't care much for boost. Something I find funny is ever since the Boost was announced to be back, I've heard "WHY DOESN'T SONIC TEAM TRY SOMETHING NEW!?" but, they did, in 2013. I'm one of the few people on this damn earth that actually thinks LW is honestly just a good game and the gameplay style just needs to be tweaked and worked on a bit more.

Also, I beat Sonic 06 on 360 and PS3 and also completed Lost World 3DS, which is so far the worst 3D Sonic game I have ever played. I highly doubt the game will be that fucking bad. I just want a demo at this point.

Already have it preordered and paid off completely at GameStop for both the PS4 and Switch versions.

I'm a sucker where I always (Now since Generations) try and buy the games day 1 regardless of how they'll probably be in the end since majority of the time I know I'll have some fun with them. Even got some fun out of the Boom games and I don't even care for them like that.

Forces, from what I've seen, certainly isn't going to be the smash hit Sonic game a lot of fans have been wanting since Generations (or Unleashed), and while I have my own gripes about the game currently (Questionable level design, Boost gameplay returning (kinda), meh marketing, too much automation, Classic Sonic/Modern Sonic/Avatar controls), I do see some genuine fun from the game.

I don't think the level design is the absolute best, but levels like Casino Forest and Modern Sonic Park Avenue/City Heights gameplay looks incredibly fun to me. A shame that Modern Sonic still suffers from control problems but they were never end of the world to me in previous Boost games (prefer Adventure games much more) and they won't be here, along with Avatar controls probably.

The story is arguably the best thing about Forces that I've seen. It's weird to say but this is the first actual Sonic game where I'm buying the game for the actual story alone more than the gameplay, and while it may seem like I should just watch on YouTube, I still do want to play. Just that every other game I cared about gameplay and story (Generations, Lost World and Boom games.)

I’ve already bought it. As soon as I saw that first trailer, with the city on fire and Sonic finally looking like he gives a darn, I knew I was going to get this game. The Classic showed up, and I was unsure again, but they’ve won me back since then.

Though, I’m still not happy with Graff coming back. I’m just hoping they finally step it up with the story. I’m already convinced that I’ll probably like everything else in this game. It looks fun, the graphics are good, and the music is rockin’. So, the only thing left that concerns me is also the part that I’m the most hyped about: the story. Let’s just hope they finally get it right.

I mean yeah of course. If I have so much amount of time on this forum talking, debating about this game for long hours, I might as well see how the game turns out. It would be kinda unproductive to complain about something I'm not entirely sure about and not see how it would work out.

Nope. I really wanted to be hyped about Forces, but everything shown looks boring and kinda...how can I say..."soulless" to me. Not my kind of game.

Absolutely will buy it on day one, as I do with most Sonic games, though this will be the first time I will be doing so since Sonic Generations on Xbox 360. I've been so soured on recent Sonic games that I just haven't been bothered to check out the more recent games. I never bought Lost World because I could tell the minute it was shown that it was going to be a major let down, so it's the only major 3D Sonic game I never bought, alongside Colors which I only bothered to rent on Gamefly before picking up a cheap used copy many years later because it looked mediocre and is to this day one of my least favorite Sonic games, period. While I definitely have problems with Forces, it at the very least looks and sounds MUCH better than the Sonic games as of late, so I cautiously look forward to it. Colors was never at any point worth its initial $50 price tag, so hopefully Forces will earn its $40, which is a good price so long as it's not as bare bones as Colors. I honestly hate skipping any Sonic games though because I love the series so much overall. I just want better things from it. Forces isn't what I want per se, but I think it has some good ideas, and still a step up IMO.

I'll likely get Forces for Switch, which is risky, but that is sadly all I have. Would've gladly forked out the extra cash for a PC version as well, but I utterly refuse to support Denuvo, so sorry SEGA, you lost one from me.

I have it preordered, but will likely cancel it. It seriously looks more and more disappointing with every new thing they reveal. Plus there's a certain other platformer that I think looks fantastic coming out around a week before SF.

With how unimpressed I feel with literally everything shown for Forces so far I just feel It's more logical to wait it out for final impressions and reviews.

I usually need to play games to say if I want more of it in the future but with Forces I can pretty safely say, NO! But I'll still give it a try. Not sure if I'm going to get it at launch or wait it be on sale. $team version for me, pls.

Yeah. Not right away, but definitely this year. I'm actually intent on getting the Switch version, so I'm mostly interested in watching it and seeing how it performs. If I'm not feeling it there, I might see about getting it on my sister's Xbox One.

Forces has stuff going on for it that I'm really interested in, particularly the story and the characters having a more active role than they have in recent years. Sure, it has stuff I don't care about either that's propping up the main gameplay (I can do without Classic Sonic, Wisps, or a custom hero ever showing up in another Sonic game), but I've stopped holding that against the game and I think I'll still enjoy it for what it is even if it's not really the game I want. I didn't care at all about Mania pre-release, wrote it off mostly as a rehash, but now here I am a month later, with 70 hours under my belt and it's better than I was willing to give it credit for. I dunno, I've gone from really disliking how the game was being presented to getting more into the stuff that was revealed for it later on, I'm willing to give it a shot.

I don't plan on buying it. I will end up playing it, so I can give genuine thoughts on how it was executed. But nothing about the game so far has impressed me enough to consider adding it to my collection.

I miiight... though I still want to get a Switch first, and I'll most likely get Mario Odyssey along with it.

As a guy who sticks with Nintendo systems, I haven't enjoyed a Sonic game I bought since Colors. (although even then I barely play it now) But I do like the darker tone the game is aiming for, and the character customization would be fun to use.

There's no way Forces could be worse than Lost World though. Right?

I put it on my Christmas list. I’ll let someone else spend their money on it. I don’t have a lot of cash right now, and I don’t want to waste it on Sonic Forces. Maybe my feelings will change closer to release, but for now...meh

This is the most apathetic I’ve ever felt toward a mainline Sonic game. I loved Generations, and I even have a much more positive opinion of Lost World than most people, but Forces looks lifeless to me. There’s not a single stage shown so far that I have any urge to play.

I’m tempted to not get the game at all because I want SEGA to realize they can’t just shovel anything at me and expect me to buy it (except they probably can).

I’m too much of a fanboy to never get it. I even bought Boom eventually even though I knew it would be bad—and it was. I don’t expect Forces to be unplayable, I’m just not convinced it will be enjoyable either. Feels like it’s missing its heart.

I initially thought on double dipping for PC and Switch, but I might just wait until we get some confirmation about how the Switch version runs, and if it's acceptable, I might just roll with that on release and get it for PC later from a steam sale or something if I enjoy the game enough. If the Switch version looks like it's struggling hard, I'll get in on Steam day one. Either way, I'll get it day one in some way. Even if nothing I've seen so far has really impressed me, I'm expecting to find some enjoyment from this, much like I've done with every 3D Sonic game I've played so far.

Yes I will. I've made bad purchase decisions on games (MvC:I and  backed Yookah Laylee) before (alongside great ones) so I'll ride this trainwreck from start to end.

I will be buying it at launch. I'm fully aware of its problems, and I personally find many of its aspects to not be to my taste. But on the other hand, I find several of its aspects do fit with what I'd like from a Sonic game. The crux of the matter for me is that it's been 4 years since we've had a half-serious 3D Sonic game (I did not buy Boom), and I'm not so disinterested in this franchise anymore that I won't buy a main-series title at a frequency of once per four years.

Forces has me curious and anxious, but I'll still be purchasing it day one. I can't say I'm not excited that it's tone is going to be darker than its predecessors.

Most likely no. I don't have a modern system or a computer powerful enough to run it (with Denuvo being included, I wouldn't have bought it anyway) and even if I did, I wouldn't have bought it straight away. While it would most likely end up being a decent game, it's not for me. Had it been just a Generations styled game, I would have bought it however with an inclusion of a dark story with edgy Shadow and Infinite that I'm not keen on, the tone being all over the place not sure what it wants to be and the wildcard being the Avatar having gameplay that doesn't look fun to play. Plus the impressions and problems with the game are putting me off and making me really worried about the game especially the handholding to cover up problems and the level design. I like my Sonic lighthearted and if there is an intense moment, it would be near the end of the game rather than what seems to be the entire game. I didn't have much hype even when it was the Project Sonic 2017 trailer even though I do have the Park Avenue Avatar song stuck in my head.

If somehow I do end up with a PS4 in 6 years time or so and the game is at a cheap price, I will give it a play or a least a try providing that it ends up being decent like Unleashed rather than 06.

I never ever buy games day 1 so that was never going to happen regardless. But beyond that, I've been just as disappointed as many others with what we've seen, to the extent that I think the game may have gone through some development hell (4 years for this seems absurd). I'll probably pick it up at some point, at a discount or perhaps pre-owned.

Yes, and here is why.

  1. I want to add a physical Sonic game to my PS4 collection, because we damn sure ain't getting one for Mania anytime soon now are we?
  2. I'm not getting it at full price (thank you Amazon Prime) but I still pre-ordered the Bonus Edition.
  3. There are things about it that hold just enough interest for me to play myself and judge it from my experience playing. Such as the Boost gameplay (which I do like and find some enjoyment out of) Also visually I know I'm going to enjoy it while playing on the big flat screen TV in the house.
  4. It just comes down to curiosity that I feel I won't get by just watching videos on YouTube or whatever. I want to play it with my own hands. Frankly after Mania and how much I felt like that didn't click with me and honestly didn't hold my interest nearly as much as I thought it could. Maybe Forces can, I dunno. Like I said already, I'm already at the stage of the series where I buy if there things that interest me, but otherwise I'm just indifferent towards putting energy into the series. If Forces doesn't do it for me fine, I'll just move on to play something else. Ain't worrying me none.
