There aren't any lives and you lose all your rings at once anyways, so I don't see a point in it going higher (unless you can buy things).

Looking at gameplay, you actually don't lose all the rings now, but only 20. Looks like they changed the ring system compared to earlier demos.  Weird.

As for the level itself?... From gameplay standpoint it's not great. Linear, automated as balls, now with weird perspective. But eh, I stopped expecting "good level design" some time ago.
Aesthetically I like it actually, doesn't look as Chemical Plant-y as I thought it would, which is nice. Music is also pretty good for me.

Overall I don't hate it, but I wouldn't say I like it per se. And I guess I know what to expect from a game now - a game that definitely ain't gonna beat Gens any time soon gameplay-wise, but still looks better than Lost World to me

Well, this footage just proves what is wrong with Sonic Forces from the beginning. 3D linear paths, 2D bashing defenseless enemies with Avatar or "platforming" with Classic/Modern Sonic. Man, this game is going to bomb. Not as much as 06, but close to, really.

I think you're overreacting. Dissapointing? Sure. But, This does not look anything near bad as 06.

Eh. It's ok. I really like the music, but the train section looks really boring and pointless. Also, pretty much all of the enemies and jumps can be bypassed with the drill, which I don't like. The stage should at least have some challenge, whichever wispon you pick.

Oh, really ? How many dangerous enemies are there in any stage ? How many different paths are in 2D sections ? How much platforming is in 3D sections ?

Question 1) less than in any Sonic game before

Question 2) less than in any Classic Sonic games + Mania. Even Generations were better in this manner.

Question 3) any 3D Sonic game had more

+ as said by many, it´s way too easy. Glad I have a low-end laptop, not that I would buy Forces with a good one either.

EDIT: 3D sections are transitions from one 2D sections to another more than in ANY Sonic game

So get this: you can literally see enemies spawn in right in front of you at the end of the video.

Disgustingly linear and barren level design, a 20 second custscene wasting your time every time you play the level, and a weapon that looks like it's bound to kill you if you try to use it anywhere near a pit.

This game is so bad.

And you, for some reason were expecting the level design style to drastically change/improve? At this point, we know exactly how the levels in Sonic Forces are going to be designed. So you're reaction makes no sense.

Wow that was automated as hell. I mean visually it looks great but I had to watch in muted (working). But damn Sega. Talk about hold right to win. I really hope later stages have more life than that.

I don't know how you could've possibly come to this conclusion. If the guy thinks it's bad, let him say it's bad. if it bothers you that much, stop reading these threads.

Also, can you guys please show something that isn't the fucking avatar??

We've seen literally one fucking Modern Modern Sonic stage, for fucks sake.

I was about to point this out, too.  They seem to be actively avoiding showing us Modern Sonic gameplay; the only level we've seen for him which isn't the ruined city was about two seconds of Green Hill in a trailer - and that was a 2D segment...

Also, don't think I don't see that "Sonic's world" in the video description.  Are the rules really so strict they can't just say "the world"?  Or just "in the frozen north" and leave it at that?

I like the visuals here. It's nice to see something more "purely" realistic.

I just wish the game's art direction was more uniform. You've got areas like Sunset Heights and Casino Forest which are slightly realistic but also have some stylized "cartoony" parts here and there. Then you have Green Hill which is purely blocky and cartoony. And then there's completely realistic areas like this one and the unnamed futuristic city. (To an extent)

Maybe there will be an explanation for all this, but I kinda doubt it.

No, I didn't expect the level design to change. My reaction is because the level design has managed to get even worse than the other levels we've seen.

People keep saying, oh, it's just the first level, obviously it's going to be simple, the latter levels will get more complex, but it got worse.

Eh. I wouldn't exactly say "worse", more of "every new stage revealed has a new set of issues from the others".

So he's not allowed to dislike the thing he dislikes?

Oh that argument.

Yeah people were saying that about my preview.

Imagine their surprise when they find out Green Hill isn't the first stage.

No. He's/she's allowed to dislike the reveal. It does a lot of problems, I admit. It's more of these complaints about Forces have been said, 100 times. At this point, people should just "know" what they're getting into.

Well, one and a half with the Pyramid stage and...

Wait.

Well shit, we really haven't seen anything about Modern Sonic proper and the game is less than a month away.

Holy SHIT SEGA fire your marketing team, learn how to market your FUCKING GAME.

This isn't incompetence on their part; they just really wanna push the Avatar character since it's the game's new thing.

I'll believe this when you start chasing down people for giving the game praise that's been said before.

It´s probably the game´s only thing. Let´s count how many of stages we have seen in videos. I think that would be the ratio of gameplay, actually.

EDIT: I mean ratio Classic Sonic stages : Modern Sonic stages : Avatar stages.

It's complete fucking incompetence because pushing the Avatar stages is not fucking working. Hell, I'd say it's harming the game MORE than helping it. This is a Sonic the FUCKING Hedgehog game, why the fuck is Sonic getting the backseat of HIS OWN FUCKING GAME.

FUCK I'M GETTING PISSED.

I like how they MAKE SURE that you SEE the twisting and turning pathways to just to scream: "YEAH!! THIS IS CHEMICAL PLANT ZONE GUYS!! HEY REMEMBER THAT?? REMEMBER THE TWISTING PATHWAYS??????? HUH??????"

I really wish they would stop playing the nostalgia card so much.

...No shit dude, because it is Chemical Plant. It's just Chemical Plant with frost. Regardless of the name, it's just a colder Chemical Plant. Chemical Plant had twisty turny parts.

I dread everytime SEGA reveals new gameplay for Forces, because I KNOW people aren't going to like it. Which is fine by itself, but in this particular message board, people tend to go overboard.

Sorry it looks so bad.

It's the exact same shit every time new Forces content is revealed. "Aw Jeez guys, you're being a little tough on the game Don'cha think?" To which the average response is either "lol cause the game sucks" or an in-depth explanation about why Forces is everything wrong with Sonic and is an abomination. Kind of funny tbh. Kind of annoying sometimes also, but only when the responses are something along the lines of "Well, maybe you should consider not buying the game". That's some real snarky shit right there. Can't help but feel for the little guy on the SSMB that actually does like Forces. Looking at the Youtube comments on the video and back at the SSMB, the contrast is so apparent it's amazing.

I'm actually pretty fucking astounded at the reactions here. How is this the worst level revealed so far? I thought it was better than Park Avenue or Green Hill at least. Pretty low bar for comparison, but it's still better I thought.

Maybe it's just cause I really don't care as much for Sonic anymore, but I think it still looks fun to play.
