Sonic Forces - Space Port Gameplay

Mania has its issues for sure and I don't see it as a "true" Sonic 4. The new/old level ratio probably bothered most, like me, but I don't think it was up to Chris and folks that the game ended up quite restricted and "unfinished".  Also, despite the game being quite short, it's really fun to play still even after multiple times of beating it because everything works so well: the music, level design, physics - the fun is present through the whole game. For me, no matter how much content Forces has, if the levels are all as flat and boring we've seen to this day, I can't see myself playing that stuff more than once, maybe twice at the most.

Push Square uploaded this brilliant  preview. They don't skirt around the details and get right to the point. The entire preview is below.

There will be people who think this Sonic Forces gameplay is good

They're entitled to their opinion, of course - but they're wrong.

Deal with it.

Love it.

A joke preview that pushed peoples buttons straight away.

Some of the comments are gold.

This article is a damn joke. I get that you guys don't like sonic, but for you to go and say that this game is bad with your only statements being that people's opinions are wrong? Wtf. This isn't even the first time you've done something as stupid as this. You've been called out for doing so, yet you feel the need to do it again. Do you want your company to fail? It sure seems like this. This "author" needs to be fired asap. You are literally a disgrace to the PlayStation name. This whole site makes me f*cking sick.

Articles like this exist for two reasons.

1: they're easy jokes that succinctly summarise opinions.

2: the reactions from people who don't have the capacity to understand humour is always worth it.

If this article was the other way around, i.e. a one-liner saying that the game is actually good, the reaction would be polar.

No, no, this article is straight and right, I don't see a joke. If you think Forces is a good Sonic game, or a good game in general, I'm sorry but you either just got into this franchise/gaming or you're lying to piss people off. This is bad. People can come here and say they like it all day long, they'd be wrong or senile in my book.

I rather just see Forces as a big joke instead of keep getting disappointed and angry over shit I know they could've done better.

This franchise deserves more after Mania. Much, much more. We can't have a stream of good games, can we?...

Thank god I'm not the only one who thought this looked pretty terrible. Push Square's preview seems to be more like a bait than a joke, tho.

EDIT: Also yeah, attacking people for having different opinions for a game is not cool.

Bait like this is a joke. And people taking it is the punchline.

The very definition of an opinion is that it's something subjective and personal. If someone tells you that an opinion is wrong, you can rest assured with the knowledge that what they're saying is actually what's wrong. People rise to it, which makes it so easily repeatable. And this piece clearly isn't a serious piece of gaming journalism. It was amusing to read and the comments made it funnier. I just say roll with it.

(Also I accidentally posted this early - and you replied before I managed to finish my post)

Eh, if it was a joke then the funny part would be the preview itself, not the comments :V

Problem is, humor like that requires faith in humanity, or in the joke teller at least, and let's face it, faith level is quite low.
Unless you're REALLY piling up the sarcasm and hyperbolic statements to an enormous high degree, and let's face it, you need to lay the sarcasm and stupidity pretty thick if you want to out-joke the thickheadedness of people found on the net.

Pretty much all Sonic fans from all factions feel they're constantly being threatened and prosecuted, so very few will be able to laugh at any "Lol obviously my statements that Sonic sucks and all Sonic fans are losers was a joke (Ps, I totally think Sonic really sucks, but it's a joke so don't judge me, but it's still my opinon that Sonic really is terrible, but don't get angry because it's a joke, even tough I really think it's true, but it's a joke, but it isn't, but it is, but seriously Sonic and his fans are godawful people, haha that was a joke, (Ps. ps. no it wasn't...) Don't be angry, lol)" humor.

Regardless, yeah, the article didn't even try to bring in a legit point, so I would agree it's a waste of time to get angry or try to debate the writer. It's clear this is clickbait, pure and simple. Alas, nothing brings in more money then releasing "Top 10 Terrible Sonic levels (Ps, yes YOUR facorite Sonic game will definitly show up!!!" articles or video's.
Best to ignore them and do something more productive with your time, like creating your own "Top 10 worst 3d textures on Knuckles' Shoes (Especaily in that game you like!)" video's. You can become rich with these.

I'm just wondering who the hell at Sonic Team actually believes this shit is acceptable...

I'd love a "Straight Flat Zone" as a surprise final level.

And then somehow it ends up being the least linear and flat Stage in the game.

I've been playing Sonic games since 2001, sir, and I can tell you that when I say I think this game looks good - but not great - I'm not just lying to piss people off. And I'm not fucking senile, either.

Frankly, you're the one who comes off as trolling here, as does this article, written for clickbait by an overworked and underpaid game journalist in an over saturated and withering industry. How about you let people enjoy what they like without passing such harsh judgment on them?

Something I’ve been thinking about lately is if Sonic Forces has an equal amount of stages between Sonic, Classic Sonic and Avatar. All this focus on Avatar makes it seem like they (you!) are the main character and not Sonic himself, and I’m a bit worried about that. I know Sonic was apparently captured early on in the game, but I’m surprised we have only seen one stage for him and more for Classic and Avatar, even now just a few weeks away from release.

I'm pretty sure it will be an equal amount of stages for each gameplay style. So a Classic stage, a Modern stage, an Avatar stage, and a Tag Team stage for every zone. We've seen Modern Green Hill in the story trailer, Classic Green Hill, Avatar Green Hill (Guardian Rock), and Tag Team Green Hill. We also see Modern Sonic in Casino Forest in the "Enter Infinite" trailer, and they talk about needing a shuttle to catch up to Sonic in the Space Port gameplay. So I wouldn't worry about stage distribution, because it seems like they are trying to make it pretty even.

Why did they revert back to Colors' level design?

I would assume its to increase the amount of levels and the length of the game. Unleashed and Generation's levels are great, but they take a lot of work. They're so big and have so much detail, so I guess Sonic Team is scaling that back and having 3 different characters to make a longer game.

You know what would be neat? If knuckles makes a comment about the time he took over the space shuttle near the end of sonic adventure 2. That would be a neat callback.

It's a 7/10 to you. That doesn't make it a good product in itself. That's what I'm debating here.

But what makes a good game a quality game?

What is quality in a video game context? Having fun equals having quality? And what if it has quality and it isn't fun? Why a fun game isn't a quality game since having fun is the primordial point of any game? Fun is subjective. Why quality isn't? What does "having quality" even mean?

(I am pretty much asking stuff because I was just wondering about this)

Few things to say.

1) Forces have a very odd marketing. It can´t improve anyone´s view. (If you liked the game from the beginning, you are still. If not, you are hating it. Or just say it is OK, which is also a bit odd.)

2) Literally every thing in the entire game is reused. And even if it´s not truth, the percentage is just too high.

3) Avatar with "Wispon" is just overpowered and seems to substitute 90% of the characters from the Sonic series

4) Very little platforming for a platformer. And if there is any, it´s too easy. Look at "Green Hill Forces" in Sonic Mania. Compare it to Green Hill in Sonic Mania. You will understand why the level design is too uninspired. (It´s not the only stage to look like well... cheese !)

5) Boost gameplay and Wisps are being repetitive.

6) If Sonic is not present at the first 1/3 of the game, you will know that "Forces" = Avatar

7) What the heck ?
