I refuse to believe this game took 4 years. There is no way

Just now, A sonic fan said:

would someone mind posting every zone we got in the game ?

I think its

green hill

chemical plant

metropolis (not the one from sonic 2)

mystic forest (basically casino night)

death egg

city (no joke, fucking city zone, what a name)

and I think something empire. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong

This leaves three more postgame stages to potentially resolve.

Eh... I still liked the story. Streamer just finished showing all cutscenes.

Thoughts on the story

I enjoyed the writing for the most part. Didn't feel like any character was off with maybe the exception of Tails, but that's more because of the fact that I'm constantly thinking back to the early 3D Sonic game days of his writing vs. his modern writing. In modern 3D Sonic, Tails is written perfectly still. Anyways, the actual story did have quite the funny lines (Sonic asking Infinite about whether he like long walks on the beach).

I do think that Shadow, Chaos, Zavok, and Metal didn't fully live up to the hype. If anything, only Metal and Zavok actually did something/had boss fights. Shadow just got kicked by the real Shadow, and Chaos was bopped on the head by Classic Sonic and that was it. Leaves a lot more to be desired. On the bright side I think, Infinite was a bit better. As the new character, he actually did stuff within the story which I appreciate. I like him as a one off villain. He wasn't an exceptionally fantastic character, but definitely wasn't

horrendous. He played his role until the very end. As much backstory as we got was that he was infact created by Eggman with the usage of the Phantom Ruby. I'm glad the whole "Infinit is a warrior" theories were incorrect and that he really didn't have a warrior sword. I thought that theory was absolutely stupid. Also, I don't have a problem with Infinite being an edgy character, with lines talking about how he can feel the fear in others or how he enjoys watching people cowarding in fear. I don't feel every single character needs to be relatable and have multiple layers to them. Infinite was a good edgy character and he did his edgy role right for me with some nice edgy lines. He still probably isn't a character I'd like to actually see return, but that's because he's like a serious OP character. There's only so much you can do with him.

I really liked was the character interactions between each other. Felt nice to see some characters bounce off each other, but it was even nicer to see characters actually doing stuff within the story, even if it was small. The Silver vs Infinite cutscene was still my favorite because it's been forever since Silver has been in an action cutscene, and actually seeing Silver with a 2nd command role was nice. Same goes for Knuckles being like the leader since he's been incredibly irrelevant in the franchise for years now. It makes me question how the next 3D Sonic game will be like after this. I also do think the "war" itself at the end was very...underwhelming. Like, I always had a feeling that it would be in the end ever since seeing the first story trailer and looking at more and more promotional art for the game. The developers were trying to make it seem like it'll be like this big thing, which is kinda was, but the execution was very sloppy. The fighting cutscene didn't look that good to watch.

Didn't have any real problem with the Avatar, but I thought the whole dropping the sun(?) moment was pretty silly. He was able to disrupt and stop Infinite's grand attack just by having a tweaked Phantom Ruby. Feels like that nod to the whole fake Chaos Emerald from Sonic Adventure 2. A problem I did have is with Classic Sonic, which I guess isn't much of a surprise. Modern Sonic and Modern Tails makes comments about seeing him before and it being generations, but it's not exactly clear whether Classic Sonic is from the past like it was thought back in Sonic Generations, or truly from another dimension like it's said in Forces. It can be seen as a retcon, but also can be seen as Time Eater grabbed another Classic Sonic from a DIFFERENT dimension back in Generations (Time Eater had time and space abilities and this only hurts Generations more since its story could have been more clear about things). But it doesn't matter much since Classic Sonic was barely relevant here. He's the guy in a story that's minding his own business and gets dragged into something he never wanted, and he's forced to stick through it until the end, and when he leaves, it's just meh. It's over. I'm finally out. And that's it. He's gone. Will we ever see him again? Who knows.

That's really how I felt about Classic Sonic. I think it's nice that him and Modern Tails buddied up together, but he feels the most lackluster among Modern Sonic and Avatar in the story. Maybe because they're giving extremely more spotlight. I think Classic Sonic should have gotten more spotlight, especially since the whole big problem with the Phantom Ruby is connected to him. It feels lazy just having him get shafted, but from the beginning it was kinda thought this would happen, so I shouldn't be so surprised or even upset, I guess. Meh...

I'm glad Eggman WAS the final boss. I thought there was a chance that Infinite would try and steal the spotlight from Eggman at the end and do something like "Doctor, you're too incompetent to handle these matters. Begone." and then just fling Eggman away as he does a Shonen "This isn't even my final form!" moment where he upgrades multiple time and the heroes have to keep beating him. None of that. Infinite properly gets beaten by Sonic and Avatar (with a whole Friendship/Bonds speech from Modern Sonic), and Eggman takes complete control to try and end things. This is how things should be like, and I appreciate Sonic Team doing this.

The ending was nice. It wraps up majority of loose ends, but I think Infinite's fate is one completely left in the air and that sucks because I was hoping he'd have a proper conclusion. Eggman is defeated, the resistance is slightly still acive because Silver felt there was extra things to do despite Knuckles wanting to close the resistance, the reisstance comes together and says bye to the Avatar, Avatar leaves since he feels his job is done, Classic Sonic goes back to his world since the Phantom Ruby is gone, and Modern Sonic runs off on a new adventure. Infinite.... Yeah. He's defeated and I think his spirit went back to the core machine? I know the game itself in one of the final levels had Modern Sonic and Avatar destroying something. I wasn't sure what, but maybe it was all of the Infinite research tubes. If so, then maybe the story itself really wrapped itself completely. Hmm... But at least the fist bump between Modern and Avatar was nice.

So yeah. I enjoyed what I seen. I do think effort was put into this story, definitely, but the execution in some areas definitely could have been better. The "war" could have been better, the explanation of who is Classic Sonic and his overall role in the story could have been better, the villains so badly could have done much more. But still... It was enjoyable for what it's worth. It's been a long time since I've felt this interested in a 3D Sonic game story and actually came out and looking back at it all and going "That was a good experience." I think it definitely was a step in the right direction for 3D Sonic with action cutscenes, characters taking whatever Eggman threat seriously, and nice character interactions. Yet, it was also a couple step backwards with characters being shoehorned into the story (Classic Sonic), or execution lacking for a bigger moment (the war).

Hopes for the future:
- Infinite never returns
- Avatar never returns
- Classic Sonic doesn't return, but this will probably happen in the end

Pfff yeah, let's not waste time hoping for that again.

This game actually does feel like it leaves itself open for a strong postgame. We’ve only seen 7 out of 10 areas of the game. And Silver’s words also leave it open.

um no and i will ask a mod to back me up this time on this one. I have as much right to tell another fan to enjoy the game than become dishearted by people calling the game a steamy pile and how they fell sorry for anyone legit excited for this game

@Celestia what about this? not going to argue with anyone but wouldnt that be right?

Oh sure, I'll chip in!!

no cause those same people were wanting to hate on the game. noting would have changed honestly. some of those same people months ago hated the game and wanted it to fail. this just gives them more chances to laugh and say how much it sucked to THEM thats the keyword . if your still excited for it go for it. Definitely do not let ssmb be the voice behind a opinion on new sonic games. This is just people discussing it.

How many times do I have to say "people wanting the game to review badly isn't a moral failing, let alone against the rules?" Okay, I only said it once, maybe you missed that, fair enough. Point being, if people don't like the direction of a series, it's completely natural to want that direction to not be well received. If people are calling for Sonic Team's and/or fellow fans heads on pikes or some shit then sure, I'd tell 'em to knock it off, but beyond that? It's just a video game, if you can't take people disliking it you can easily just stay out of these topics. Or y'know, report posts you think are a problem.

Dude, seriously, shut up. You're full of shit.

This isn't acceptable either, just for the record. Since you were previously striked and warned about your attitude, we're temporary suspending you. See ya in a month.

Please be respectful to each other, dudes. C'mon.

You're referring to Shadow's DLC having three original levels and being able to play through ten in the game? If so, then.. aren't those ten just the modern levels we've already seen?

Well on Chaos, I'm holding my hopes for the Shadow DLC.

And for the other three levels that they’ve yet to explore. And Razule, I think there really are three more hidden in the post game.

Ok so question: how does Infinite, as we know him from the game (seemingly just an illusion projected by the ruby itself or something), jibe with who we're assuming is an unmasked Infinite on that one leaked comic cover? Does he have a physical body and a previous life? If not, what's with the sword? I don't remember seeing it in game.

They're not going to hide three entire separate zones in the postgame.

Are there any hints in the game that would support the idea that there are 3 more zones? If there are, im not too confident about the quality of those stages based of what we've seen of the other hidden levels.
