I partially agree. I won't buy this game too

However, I doubt just individual's act can change Sonic Team's attitude. I think formal collective boycott is more efficient to make our opinions known.

In addition, If they think Sonic game is not sold well, I think they just abandon it instead of refreshing it.

Sonic's one of the highest selling video game franchises of all time, and internationally popular. Bad sales and critical reception will not kill the series, but rather redirect it.

Also, I emboldened the last paragraph just to emphasize my point, since it seems it's being missed: don't do it first and foremost to change them or anything, do it to save yourself the trouble. No one should use their money, time and energy on something that will only bring them down. You're only hurting yourself.

These are incredibly tenuous links to a movie that came out only two years ago, when this game was (supposedly) already well into development.

It is incredibly uncanny and coincidental, if you ask me. I would be cautious about concluding that the plot was fully formed and grounded at that point. It is quite possible they designed levels with the thought of going back and tweaking them as needed to fit with the final narrative later on. They just needed a variety of different enough looking zones so it felt like it spanned the vastness of Sonic's entire world. In actuality, the only basic or superficial plot item they needed to know for most of the level design was that Eggman had succeeded in conquering the entire world.

By the way, After the spolier released, how about level design, music, and other things except story overall?

In other websites, I heard the level design is not as bad as before, music is still great.

Alright, after yestarday's mess, I decided to think about how I actually feel about the game.

Positives:

-I still like the gameplay. The only 3D Sonic game I played are Colours and Generations, which both used the Boost, so maybe I'm biased. (For the record, Colours, Generations and Mania are the only "official" ,as in not-spinoff, Sonic games I've played until the end). For Classic Sonic, I see they improved a lot since Genrrstions. Avatar looks great and I like character creation.

-The first half of the story is pretty good. Up to the Avatar vs Infinite fight I liked the story really much.

-The graphics and music are great. This is the best looking game in the series.

-The level design is not bad, but not great.

Negatives:

-The second half of the story feels rushed. The story goes way too fast. While the first stages increase the percentage bit by bit, the second half increases it like crazy. IIRC, one stage jumped it from 24% to over 40%. Infinite becomes irrelevant way too fast, just to make Eggman the main bad guy again.

-Bait. The E3 trailer showed us Infinite along eith 4 bad guys: Shadow, Chaos, Metal and Zavok. Guess what, YOU DON'T EVEN FIGHT SHADOW AND CHAOS. This is literally bait. Or maybe cut content. I hope we get more info on Forces similar to Boom. I need to know how the development for this game went.

-Very dissapointing number of zones. They promised us lots of levels coming back, and yet the entire game has 7 zones out of which 3 are old.

I will still get the game since I like many parts of it, but I can't say I didn't expect more for an anniversary game. It's just... ok. Not horrible, not great. I just wonder how much content they cut from the game.

Forgive me for what I'm about to say (spoilers and all). I saw a cutscene where Sonic gets back and Tails hugs him and (nearly) tells him that he thought his best friend was dead, only for Sonic to say that he worries too much. Let me ask you this, Sonic: wouldn't it be better to worry too much than to not worry at all?

You had been defeated and imprisoned, not to mention that you have been tortured for SIX MONTHS (how you were tortured, we don't know). You got out of prison with a calm and clear mind (rather than a deranged, broken and twisted mind), saved someone WHO HAD A WEAPON IN HAND and got back to HQ (or whatever this place is called). And now you tell Tails, the person who was missing you and fearing for you LIKE ANY OTHER PERSON WOULD, that he worries too much?

What if it was the other way around? Would you have felt the same way, or would you just say, "Eh, we'll find him eventually"? Come on, Sonic. Why can't you see that Tails is the ONLY ONE who truly worries about you, despite his 'usefulness' in 'helping' you and the other survivors? I wouldn't be surprised if you broke and turned your back on your friends if they didn't care about you and (unknowingly or knowingly) just left you in a prison cell for nearly two years to rot because they thought you were Sonic the Hedgehog.

Oh wait, it DID happen. But not in the real world.

I think if you look more carefully you'll find more then 3 of the zones are old zone ideas remixed.

Green Hill.

Chemical Plant.

Park Avenue/City Zone = Rooftop Run Ripoff City.

Metropolis = Metropolis from Sonic Heroes.

Casino Forest = Casino Night & Silent Forest combo.

Death Egg.

It seems in terms of the boost style, internally there's now two STYLES of boost gameplay.

The Generations/Unleashed method of actually designing levels with a good sense of flow, the ratio of 2D/3D being either equal or in 3D's favor, the 3D it self having actual depth, layers, platforming, etc and the 2D being considerably less blocky and more free form. Also Sonic maintains a consistent boost through ring and enemy kills

And on the other side you have the Colors/SLW chuckle heads. 3D sections are shallow straight lines that serve for spectacle and eye candy meant to funnel you from one 2D section to the next rather then anything with any depth or substance to it, said 2D sections are utterly dull and blocky with every level ending up looking and feeling the same as a result. And the ratio is HEAVILY skewed in 2D's favor like 60-80% so. Sonic's boost is nerfed and powered by white wisps presumably to limit its use. Take a guess which one Forces subscribes to!

This isn't even a slam on Colors honestly. I LIKE Colors, it was the game Sonic needed back in 2010 and it's still a decently fun time. But this is 2017, improvements SHOULD have been made. Forces not only goes back to this in terms of level design but does it WORSE in several areas (while also having way more automation then Colors ever did) and you can't even rely on the wisps to shake up the gameplay since their only used by Buddy. So basically you have a stripped down version of Colors as our main gameplay style and it's fucking terrible. This is what we waited 4 years for, it's so sickening to think about honestly. Sonic Team needs a MASSIVE restructuring before even thinking about  making their next disaster.

Agreed. Although I will say, judging from the 1 hour of gameplay I've seen, Modern Sonic levels in Forces do have a fair amount of alternate pathways, so at least there's that.

It saddens me to know that Super Sonic is not in the game.

Wait, he isn't? So they're too lazy to even reuse code from Generations or Colors? Damn.

Also, were the Chaos Eemeralds ever even mentioned in this game? Like I would sorta understand Eggman not caring about them if he thinks his ruby or whatever is more powerful, but wouldn't the 'resistance' think it would be worth a shot trying to use the Chaos Emeralds if they are in so deep of a situation?

One thing to say... I might play Forces if and only if somebody would give me a copy for PC and I had a better PC. :D I think none of these would happen.

How many wants to bet that in a few years, sonic team is gonna act like this game doesn't exist?

The credits were real nice, and I mean that genuinely. Nice music while panning through the levels/world scenery, reminded me a bit of the Zelda: Twilight Princess credits.

The impressive that I'm getting is that like RoL, the story was too underdeveloped as not many plot points were given too much explanation.

My thoughts on how the developemnt went:

They wanted Boom Sonic to be in here so that we could have had 3 Sonics.  Reminder that Sonic Forces started development in 2014, when Sonic Boom released. Maybe they thought the games would've been a succes. But the games failed. So then they convinced Sanzaru to make another Boom 3DS game 2 years ago. They saw the hate on it even before the game was released and then they decided to erase Boom Sonic from the game. They had to come out with something new. I don't know how long it took them to come up with the avatar, but I'm sure all the equipment and wispons and all that took a long time to make. Maybe that's why they rushed the game.

Also, tfw when a 3D Mario game has better rolling physics than a fucking Sonic game.

=I

That was 1 main reason why I hated the boost games from the first second. No rolling in a Sonic game? That was one of the key things that made the franchise what it was IMO, so to not have it as a feature is pretty much enough for me to not care about the boost games at all.

This is why I want Nintendo to teach Sega how to make 3D momentum based Sonic. Could not believe Odyssey did what I wanted years ago with Adventure onwards. I’d take that any day over every other form of Sonic shown in the past 15 years

Another not so good year for Sonic. Who's even surprised. Another year riddled with un-originality from a 2D and 3D Sonic game. I'm going to take a step back from Sonic until I see a game with 100% originality and has a feeling of hard work and care put into it.

Mania and Forces aren't doing anything for me personally.

Might I reccomend Freedom Planet if you want something sonic like that's (almost) 100% original! :P

I'll also say this: rolling in the 3D environment was never really put to full use even in Adventure 1 and 2, I understand this but still the fact you could do it was neat, and I doubt it's impossible to actually make it a worthwhile, useful feature in 3D.

Plus, the fact that you couldn't do it in the MANY 2D sections of the boost games either really speaks that Sonic Team just doesn't care about this move at all.

Am I the only one who thinks that Mario Odyssey is just a little bit better than Sonic Forces ? By that I mean, I find both underwhelming.
