Ah, I see. This is weird.

Another theory is that they are planning a day-one patch and so do not want reviewers reviewing the pre-patched version of the game. If that's the case.... ugh.

How would a day-one patch help the game?

What if they just don't like *bad* games?

Even then, if you had to like Sonic just to get a review code, then reviews would be fucking useless.

lol calm down man, we are just exchanging opinions.

I think this is just for IGN. On this, I'm with SEGA, they don't like Sonic so there's no need to send review codes just to play a Sonic game before it's release.

It is their literal job to review games

Looks like it’s Sonic Boom all over again. *sigh*

So I guess this means we won’t get reviews until a few days after Sonic Forces releases? I’m trying to remember if that was the case with Rise of Lyric and Shattered Crystal too.

I heard this a couple days ago. They're terrified of how this is going to be received.

They're only giving them out to influencers who will have no impact on it's Metacritic score.

It's stupidly easy to figure out. Bethesda does the same thing.

Maybe they want the game to be reviewed in tandem with the Shadow DLC.

I know, like I said before I'm fine if SEGA send or not the review codes to IGN, but I really don't care if they review a Sonic game.

ROL nobody got review codes until after the game was released.

Shattered crystal/fire and ice it depended on where you lived. Inside the US codes were sent.

But outside Nintendo handled it and they were very resilient to give out codes.

It could fix a lot of the strange quirks fans have picked up on, such as wonky physics in a section of Casino Forest. Or make more missions required. Or even just upping the attack power on the Wispons so that they're less useless.

Not from professional publications, no. But big influencers like Johnny and Cobi are probably getting them. If they hate it, they won't hold back, though, so no worries on that front.

Should be noted that the Youtuber was apparently telling a joke. He doesn't have review codes for Forces.

So nobody has gotten Forces review codes yet unless we get some kind of confirmation from somebody else.

Well, at least they know it's not good... scummy as this practice is.

I semi kept my head out of spoilers. As far as I am aware it's coming out on Forces' release date.

Seeing as two bosses get unceremoniously dealt with outside of gameplay and Infinite's backstory is still uncertain, it would make sense that the DLC fills in the gaps.

I am still hyped for this game but sadly I will admit the Sega I grew up with is long since dead. Just another publisher name and no longer the powerhouse they used to be. :c

Before someone mentions it:

John Linneman from Digital Foundry has been playing Forces, which some people are mistaking as a review code.

It's actually a broken street date copy from German chain Wiesbaden Saturn.

Not sending review codes only sounds off alarms for people. Sites like IGN and Polygon can take advantage of this like what happened with Sonic Boom where articles popped up about SEGA not handing out review codes, and in the end this will make things quite possibly worse since now everyone will have an idea that something is wrong.

SEGA should might as well just send out those review codes and accept the L. They're just delaying the inevitable now.

B-b-b-ut guys who cares if they don't send review copies? Bethesda did the same thing with DOOM 2016 and that was game of the year. You're all just worrying over nothing at all.

Whether the game is good or bad,  falling to send in review copies is not good for their image.

Who is this even parodying here?

Yknow it's interesting. Sega have no issue sending review codes/copies to Jim Sterling despite knowing he'd "shit on their games either way" so why are we suddenly of the idea they'd be super pants about getting negative coverage

Not only that,  but if anything, the leak on quite a few fronts has gotten people more looking forward to Forces,  so this decision makes even less sense.

How are you still hyped if you're disappointed and aware they treat Sonic simply as a cynical money maker?

Just  folks I've seen on twitter trying to defend this game no matter what even when there are issues with it that are pretty jarring but still try to justify it.

its amazingly sad how relevant these jimquisition episodes are, but do a great job at highlighting how crappy this practice can be for everyone. Essentially doing this creates a perception within the audience that you're not confident in your product and are clinging to your pre-orders and wanting to keep them. The last episode just highlights how post release embargo reviews are shit
