MUSIC: Sonic Tabbers Network

Sonic Tabbers Network

Back before the server farted and lost everything that we ever knew to be the SSMB, Rory (Roareye Black) had started the concept of the Sonic Tabbers Network; a way to share written music of the Sonic games.

The idea, from previous messages on the board, were to have not only guitar tablature, but sheet music as well.

Well, as the crash happened, it meant that all the guitar tabs that Cody (Blur) and I had made are no longer available. Until now!

What I aim to do is to try and find a way to upload them back here so that you can continue rocking out to those awesome tunes!

Sheet music and tabs that I can remember creating were:

Master System / Game Gear:

Mega Drive / Genesis:

I'm working on "Dreams of an Absolution" at the moment.

So, watch this space for the restoration of the Sonic Tabbers Network!

Please note: This thread is about the creation and the ability to share music, notated in many ways, for example, musical notation, guitar tablature and the like that could be printed onto paper. Please see the PDFs in this post for examples. This isn't a thread about creating or sharing original or remixed music files, such as MP3s or the like kind unless they are based upon the notations that are shared in this thread. Please do, however, write your own music scores so that we can all play as much of the Sonic music as there are original tracks!

Well, after tabbing out the music to the main level of Casino Night Zone on the Mega Drive / Genesis, I felt that I could add more to it.

So, I did.

The tab hasn't been updated but for those who weren't in the Sonic Stadium chatroom at the time or not following me on twitter, you would have missed the opportunity to download and listen to it.

If you can bear it and have a spare second, please download my semi-acoustic rendition and let me know what you think :)

Please note that this track is not exactly a remix. More of a semi-live performance based on the tab I wrote, which you can download and view from the previous post.

Great job on these, =O. I'll try to get some of my old tabs from pre-forum crash back up here in a few hours after I'm done with work, =D. It kinda sounds like fun right now to get back into that project of trying to tab every Sonic song possible, =3. I'm going to see how busy I am after work and shizz and try to get back to tabbing all of Sonic 1 (16-bit).

Some one should tab Scrap Brain from the (8-bit) game by the way. It's like the most melodic metal Sonic song evah, =O. Bridge Zone would be epic too, <3.

Pinned due to awesomeness.

Btw if any others have created tabbed music for Sonic songs feel free to post it here, they'll go up on the SSN site when it is back.

Most awesome, =F. I PM'd Roareye about doing so, but I guess you've got it covered, XD.

I'd be a big stretch, but it'd be really awesome if we could get a pretty respectable library here of tabs, =O.

I've added Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1 to the list.

This tab is based on Blur's original tab.

You really need to fix your grammar dreadnux'sulitmatefan, this is the second time I've told you now. Capitalize your letters and make proper sentences using periods, commas, and whatnot. Also, that's great that you have all those soundtracks from after 2000, but this topic is for instrument tablature, a form of reading music to learn how to play it yourself, =D. This isn't a topic for sharing your actual Sonic music collection, so sorry for the confusion.

Very nice!

I tried to play along but that's too fast for me. :o

Anyway, just a quick update to say that I had a go at recording Starlight Zone this afternoon. Please take a second to download it and let me know what you think :)

EDIT: I've also put an old version of Scrap Brain Zone up there as well. I'm thinking of redoing this one at some point.

Okay kids, the tabs here (And a couple more) have been uploaded onto the SSN Downloads Section on the website :D

I would like mooooooore however. As we have many gaps. You're the first thing on the downlods you lucky people :P

I am extremely into the musc side of things, and realise the musical Sonic community has long been with no love. That is why I want Sonic Tabbers Network to work, because I want to learn to play the guitar like Foreversonic does ;o;

In fact I'd like Foreversonic to become part of the SSN Team, making the tabs and showing us how it's done :) I want to learn to play my guitar, poor thing is underused. Up to you foreversonic, but it'd be an honour to have you.

We will still need tabs from others coming through (You'll note a couple of txt document tabs on the site already) so I'm keeping this thread alive for that purpose. You guys can send in your tabs, and you will be creditted. If you send them in via pdf document please credit yourself cos I don't have a program that can edit pdf files.

I'm really excited about this, I hope you guys are too ^___^

If someone could tab (or preferably give me the chords to) "Worth a Chance", I will officially love you.

In the most non-romantic way possible, of course.

Thanks for the compliment! I don't feel that I'm that good at guitar personally. I just happen to have a couple of guitars in the cupboard and the urge to try and play along to some of the tracks I listen to. Oddly, I don't do the same with the other instruments, although I have been playing along with the famous Gerry Rafferty (Baker Street) song on my Alto Ocarina. Blur to me is the guitarist because his music is awesome and because I haven't heard anyone else play :P

I would be honoured to take you up on that offer :D

Keep at it. You'll begin to get a feeling for where the notes are and then you'll be rocking to your own tunes!

Agreed. It would be good to see other people's renditions, even those that have been added to the downloads page. I've written mine in a way that feels right to me, often in a way that means you use the same four frets, one for each finger. This may not always be the best way of playing them so any suggestions and improvements are welcome :)

Look out for more tabs in the near future. I may update the existing tabs to include the other tracks in the MP3s, for example, the bass guitar line.

I'm not sure if they will open because my laptop is refusing to show them from the web. If someone could try them for me, I'd be grateful.

I've just tried to open them using my work's computer and they open OK.

One slight issue that needs looking into are the flats in bars 11 and 12 in Bridge. These appear to have printed on the notes rather than beside them, where they should be.

EDIT: It seems that the PDF reader we use at work doesn't like those particular bars. Those bars are fine in Adobe (Acrobat) Reader, which we don't use at work.

I'll look into that, the next time I put my laptop on.

(Apologies for treble posting!)

Awesome job on those latest tabs dude; I really love those songs, 8D! They're so damn catchy and epic, XD. But yes, they opened just fine on my computer, so I say it's good, ^_^.

Last post for the night before I get some festive snoozing done. The new tabs are excellent as always, it's great to have foreversonic on board for this stuff and I'm sorry for the long wait for my PC issues to finish and for me to come back and update. The updating is done, and the two new tabs are available on the SSN website as they should be :D

foreversonic, you'll have to register with SSN via the Wordpress and then I'll give you staff privilages allowing you to upload the tabs yourself as well as add you to the Staff page :D

Keep up the great work guys. Soon we'll have an excellent tabbing network on SSN ^_^

I'll give it a go!

I made that a while ago, so i'll try and see how much of it I can remember and get it in sheet form. What do you guys use to actually write the sheet music? I could do it by hand and then scan it?

I use Sibelius 3 - which reminds me, I need to take the stems off the guitar lines and to notate new ones.

(Wolf)Blur used something along the lines of notepad but I added the notation to one of them.

If you like, I can compute them for you if you have them written down.

This may be off topic but I just wanted to compliment you on how nice you were to them despite them using bad grammer and posting something off topic. I posted something off topic once without thinking and people were very rude to me.
