Uh, hiya. Haven't been to this place in a long time, huh? Well, it's because I was disillusioned with Sonic for a while... If I had been here earlier, then I would have quickly known that Jon Underdown (from Daiki Kasho's music in the Gran Turismo series) was going to be on the OST of Forces. Not to mention performing live at TGS.

Anyway, can you guys list me the tracks that Jon is on when you go through the music? He's the vocalist who sounds like an infinitely (lol) better version of Sonic's singing voice in Sonic Underground.

EDIT: Never mind. Just went through the OST myself, and he's only on Space Port and Park Avenue. Meh, kinda disappointing considering his absence from Gran Turismo Sport and all... =/

Shame none of them are the Shadow stages. But kudos for finding that. Been looking for inifinite's multiple boss themes.

Thanks Woun!

I like some of the songs on the soundtrack, mainly Avatar songs (because vocals ??) and the end credits song Light of Hope but I wish there wasn’t so much synth overload! Don’t even get me started on Classic Sonic’s awful chip tune music. Well, I kinda like the Ghost Town music but that’s it. Overall, a pretty forgettable soundtrack.

>listens through OST
>most of the music is 1 and a half to 2 minutes long

Spoiler

>Mortar Canyon's theme is 4 minutes and 50 seconds long
>it's one of the shortest levels
>Final Judgement is 4 minutes and 17 seconds long
>is literally Teminal Velocity 2.0

wat the actual fuck

Anyway, synths (even though they don't ruin music that much to me) and most of the Classic music aside, I feel like this is one of the better OSTs in some time for me. Shadow remixes are great (although I don't hear the guitar in the White Jungle remix that was ripped from the files), Modern Sonic's themes are pretty catchy. As someone who likes EDM, Avatar stage music is great. Cheesy, sure, but they're pretty great bangers. Orchestrated music is great (makes sense, since London Symphony Orchestra worked on these pieces), but maybe a bit generic. Boss music sounds pretty good outside of Eggman's battle (even then I find the tunes catchy, but I have shit taste, so whatever). Ghost Town was a pleasant surprise to me - I expected it to sound poorly, but it was really catchy and didn't sound ear-grating to me. I like Fist Bump too, don't @ me.

Sure, there are stinkers (as I said, most of the Classic tracks and synth does turn me off sometimes), but I like the EDM-esque direction this game took with OST.

I can't decide my favourite, but this track specifically stands out for me. It's this:

I dunno why, but I feel like this represents this game in a really weird way. Forces is a game that had pretty big potential to be good on paper, but the execution was just...not there, and that's really sad. And this track represents the sadness of that I guess? doesn't help that this track is approximately ten times longer than the actual Null Space part in that level

I've been looking all over for this. I love it! The beginning does sound like an eerie remix of eggmanland though.

These are both fire. I'm glad the whole catchy music thing worked out, because a main game with bad music is something my heart can't handle.

God I really can't stop listening to this one.  Such a great song for the last solo avatar stage:

I just love how most of the music in this game tends to have quite melancholy melodies.  It's my favourite sort of thing, we basically have almost a whole game of Aquatic Base/Sea Bottom Segue-esque music and I love it.  Actually it's one of the factors that makes the quirky Classic music feel even more unfitting than the soundfont makes it already.

Wait, so is the sun falling or is light fading from the world?

Those things seem pretty mutually exclusive.

2/10

> Uses the same bloody synth for every single modern sonic track, regardless of whether it fits or not

Oh Forces, why must thou hurt me this way?

The skeptic in me can't help but wonder if Sega made new music for classic's Green Hill and Chemical Plant for the purpose of "replacing" Nakamura's versions so that they no longer have to pay licensing fees for future games. I hope that's not the case because I never want to hear Forces' Green Hill classic ever again.

I'd be surprised, I think they were just being skimpy on this particular title.  I might've been suspicious if Death Egg had retained it's original melody, but even that got a new composition so yeah, I think they made a decision "yeah we won't license the songs for this one" and Ohtani just composed new stuff.

Death Egg has come back multiple times before (even if they were mainly different incarnations) and they never reused its S&K theme either. At this point I don't know if Sega considers the Death Egg to even have an official theme.

I wish they reused the Sonic 2 Death Egg theme some day. Oh, how that would sound remixed!

No one ever gives it a chance, because you only ever hear it for a total of three seconds.

A good OST overall I'd say. I like the electronic style and use of vocals. However there are some duds here and there.

The Avatar easily has the best/ most interesting music. Imperial Tower is a banger. The only issue I have is that, like the levels themselves, they're too damn short :<

Modern Sonic is very hit and miss and you probably already know what I'm going to say here. Using that synth as the leading instrument in almost every song. I just don't understand why. These compositions aren't even bad. They're good! They have catchy melodies! But the instrumentation doesn't fit and it lets it down. I will say though that Metropolitan Highway is awesome.

Classic Sonic suffers from the same problem really. Green Hill Zone is what happens when you give too much red cordial to your Genesis. His music also doesn't really fit with the rest of the music. I usually skip these tracks tbh.

Man, these pseudo-Genesis tracks from Classic Sonic are very weak. Personally, I think Sega's 16-bit console has music that sounds much better than what Forces is offering here:

The YM2612 (Genesis soundchip) can produce very catchy and powerful songs in good hands. I know that Tomoya Ohtani wanted to make music similar to Sonic games from the 16-bit era, but his work could be better. Much better.

its nice to be able to hear the music ripped from the game just makes me that much more excited to hear the official soundtrack actual tracks next month.

The only good Classic track in my opinion would be Casino Forest. The chiptune is not overbearingly obnoxious, and it's really catchy. This one fits the most as a Sega Genesis track.

I guess I never thought about it that way because all the other Death Egg appearances were a new Death Egg (but then again, so is this one, he just didn't put a 2 on it this time lol).  Death Egg's music did appear as an unlock in Generations so I guess that's what I was thinking of as them having not abandoned it.
