Radical Drive - Comic (And Some "Trailers")

Hi, long time no....post? Here's a little trailer for this comic I finally started a while back. 

The tone and action here are probably no different from say, Dragon Ball, with some dark/sexy humor (the really possible offensive ones I won't share here lol). I'm having fun writing the world and characters, while exploring alignments of "good" and "evil". See if the world is truly as black and white as many think. I will continue to practice my trailer voice and terrible video editing as I go along. Won't be on youtube much longer so I may not have a way of showing trailers later. Anyway, enjoy.

Your butterfly lady looks pretty interesting and I like how sharp and clean your linework is! Not super sure about the water colouring though.

Thank you, this is the only main chapter in watercolor, I was playing around with it, but decided against it a while ago. Any others will just be in mostly pen/ink. Here are pages 3&4:

Thanks, here's the last time I used watercolor, for Dragon Ball Super parodies. They seem to work much better on explosion/effects, so if anything they'll be regulated to that.

Here's the first comic I ever did in 2015, "Breaking Fast". Two of the main characters, Ruby and Tamale on a chill day.

 

 

I will have both Halloween specials later, then the Thanksgiving one I'm currently doing.

Happy...Halloween? The first is of the 2 girls we've seen last time, Ruby and Tamale. (This is before I started editing videos.)

The Christmas special should be fun....

Who to expect later, without giving to much of the world and character.

Raze: A genocidal feline hybrid. His body turns occasionally turns gray. He's not quite sure why he enjoys destruction of all creation, but he feels it's necessary somehow....

Ruby Divi: Somewhat clingy, happy go lucky mongoose who seeks to find the good in others. Found by Tamale in a ruined ship's remains. Tries to act motherly whenever she learns something new.

Tamale Baker: Rude, lazy and flirtatious, Tamale is always getting into trouble on the streets. Finds Ruby after running away from home. Usually smoking pot to ease her nerves, to the dismay of Ruby.

Nnnimaco Terrilee: Usually attracted to his predator species, Maco tries too hard to show off how cool he is. Thinks he's above the law as long he's changing society for the better....while looking awesome.

A few more characters slated to appear. There are far more, but I'll cap it here until the story goes further:

Ruby Divi (Angelic Form): Calling upon the powers of the Light Core, one of many God Cores, grants a user abilities that exceed mortals. Scarily enough, it is easily accessible by those who are seen as good or evil should their heart fulfill certain requirements. Ruby had this passed down to her before meeting Tamale.

Queen Monebrosia: A spider-bee hybrid, queen of the bees and envy of the spiders. Seemingly expressionless, she constantly worries about her 2000+ eggs that vanished along with the rest of the honey bees, which Celphelia is currently investigating. As far as she knows, she may be the last one alive.

Celphelia: Her bio is already on page 8 of "The Scorpion Butterfly". I just wanted to redraw this pose in marker.

Maximus Flora: Created by The Professor and The Doctor. What started as the ultimate medical botany project quickly became a monster feeding off any and all types of energy. Flora is vain and greedy. Her real body is a large grotesque tree that cannot move anymore, prompting her to asexually reproduce more bodies and harness energy.

The Professor: That's what they call her. Perhaps the smartest woman on Earth as of now. She enjoys creating weapons and machinery for The Master. She even designed the new internet...although it's mostly off limits right now for testing. She is obsessed with names that start with "Max". Probably the cause of her best weapon being named "The Maximum".

The Master: Kraft Beaufort is the only one of his group that makes his real name public. Sickened by the East and West countries warring against each other, Kraft plans to unite them. Although charismatic to the public, Kraft some abusive tendencies towards his wife and children at home. Worsened after one final argument with his wife.....

Decimal: A digital relic of the human age thousands of years ago, this virus is the reason the internet became dangerous, and plays a role in humanity's extinction. Decimal assimilates and corrupts data and people upon physical contact in cyberspace. Once assimilated, you cannot die and go to the afterlife. Your soul and knowledge is now a part of the data hoarding virus. The Professor created the new internet as protection, but Decimal is theorized to have no technological limits....

 

Once my Christmas special is finished, I will continue the main plot. They do make for good practice anyway.

This is a sort of 'mock' up shot I made to see if watercolor could work for a background. While I like it, it's clear that I'll be sticking with the more time consuming, more expensive marker. They just give off a much more organic feel.

General holiday art, gives a better idea of what i want from these panels. Sorry the photo's crooked.

Panels from the actual comic. The whole thing is turning out MUCH longer than i originally planned. But it'll be worth it in the end.

Also, picture Tamale with a slight "Latina" accent. I always think of it when I picture her speaking.

Radical Drive, A Holiday Rebirth, pages 1-3.

 

I'm extremely satisfied with the coloring style. I just need to work a little on my outdoor lighting (the blue mostly). But I love the aurora and fire lighting on the bodies. Man, if this were an anime....

Also, stay dedicated and finished your work , even when you think certain parts of it suck. At least you won't be stuck planning concept art forever (13 years in my case). Now onto page 4.

Just wanted to share this real quick. Even now, you can still see some obvious races of Sonic style, but I'm glad to have evolved past it. Raze went from about 3 different name changes, as well as personalities.

Entry for Tapastic's 4 Koma Contest (struggles of an artist). In my case, it's being easily distracted and subconsciously incorporating something from said distractions in my work.

One of the first (and arguably strongest) humans to master Aura Drive, Sharin. Her power is based on her bonds with her friends, no matter what creature. She can use their abilities as long as she has a spiritual connection to them. Before the Triple Crisis, Sharin fought on behalf of mistreated animals having lived in the wild herself. Her bond was with the generation of animals, who'd undergo the largest but artificial biological evolution that would heavily reshape the world...

The Digital Disaster again, Decimal.

 

 

I was going to make the cyber world different shades of blue, but thought it'd look more unsettling that varying bits of data float in the blue sky, while the floor is black and green, showing it's not safe to walk on let alone be there in general.

Animation practice for a possible future project. The idea is having 2-5 minute shorts kinda like Sonic Mania Adventures. Instead of those in comic format, which will be mostly for the main story, they can be animated. Going for full, fluid movement and expressions like Disney, but intense action akin to something like My Hero Academia or MADhouse's ONE Punch Man. Kinda the opposite scenarios where the main series is animated, while the comics are short tie ins. When I ever get a hold of a good animator, I'd love a fully animated series.
