What disappointed THE MOSTabout the game is that, graphically and technically speaking, it looks exactly like the previous games.

The models of the characters are the same, old, stiff, rigid figures as always, while other games from other franchises constantly improve and evolve.

Look at Super Mario Odyssey. Mario and co. are flexible, jiggling, alive, almost reaching Pixar-CGI levels.

What is Sonic Forces excuse to not being like that? It's because the Avatar, which is a customable character, can't be included in high quality cutscenes so the only way is to use the in game-graphic for every cutscenes?

Also, maybe I'm just nitpicking at this point, but this is the best they could come up when animating the hug between Sonic and Tails:

I see that it's hard to make the two getting closer considering their big heads and their lack of shoulders but come on, they didn't even try.

Yeah, it's true. Although, despite thinking the game looked great in the stages, looking up close at the textures made things a bit less impressive. When it came to the cutscenes, however, they all looked awful.

The weird limb flailing that they pass off as animation is starting to really bum me out. I'm looking at these scenes and seeing hardly anything that feels like a whole 10 years has passed since they implemented this style back in Sonic Unleashed.

Well, except maybe that weird thing Eggman does with his mouth. The up-curled lip thing. He couldn't do that before.

He does it in Lost World when he first pulls out the Cacophonic Conch on Zavok.

I just re-watched the scene and no he doesn't.

This is the type of smirk, isn't it?

Comparing the two they look similar. I doubt it's the same exact one but it could be. Those are some impressive ninja skills you've got on you though. His mouth animations are just in and out for most of it, I wouldn't have expected anyone to catch this in mid-movement.

However, I'm starting to realize that I'm branching off of a branching off segment from a post I made denouncing Forces's animation for not doing anything interesting. Using a magnifying glass to seek out a small smirk Eggman may have made in a past game to discredit the one tick I noticed about his facial features in Forces kind of illustrates the point even more.

I used to have a habit of rewatching certain episodes and game cutscenes on a semi-regular basis, which leads to me eventually noticing/considering things I didn't before.

Though that smirk honestly stood out for how deliciously timed it is.

Yeah, sorry about that.

Oh don't apologize. It actually makes the point stronger. They really need to do something about these animations.

It's been talked about even before Forces came out but it's even more noticable nowadays. Sonic Unleashed came out in 2008. Things should look a lot better than they do now.

I'm sure they've probably improved a little bit but far be it from me to actually tell where that would show. It looks the same.

Could've had something unique like a giant Eggman-shaped monument to take down in the end. Or Egg Pawns patrolling the streets to make sure people are loyal to Lord Eggman, or telescreens blaring propaganda (like that silly Eggman Empire promo video, or maybe something like the PA announcements in Colors?). Or... nah, fuck it, have generic dystopia world instead.

They should have looked to CD's Bad Futures and based off from there. And maybe the music to match. (You can't do anything, so don't even try)

I adore Forces, but wouldn't be awesome if Chaos turned into Perfect Chaos using Mega Mack, and then was cloned by the Phantom Ruby? What if they brought back Ibilis, Mephiles, Metal Madness, Shadow Androids, Time Eater, the Death Egg Robot, Hard Boiled Heavies, and the Biolizard as one epic crossover battle using the Phantom Ruby? Maybe they'll do this in further games if they have the Phantom Ruby.

Don't forget Emerls and Gemerls.  Plus Mecha Knux,  Super Badniks,  his Boss Mechs...
