Give me Samus over bloody Daisy any day of the week.

Or with Odyssey recently, Mayor Pauline replacing Daisy would be more fitting too.

If it is really with out all the Sega Stars, than I will skip this game. Sega All-Stars was for me the Smash Bros. Mario Kart of Sega. With out Nights, Amigo, Ulala etc. it is just another Sonic game out of million of others. making it now Sonic only is like making the newest Super Smash Bros. with only Mario characters.

+ with all the nostalgia pandering lately I highly doubt that Sega will make this game as diversified with an only Sonic theme.

I can see the track list already: Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, Speed Highway, City Escape, Seaside Hill, Crisis City, Rooftop Run, Planet Whisp, Windy Hill, Casino Zone, Death Egg, Mushroom Hill, Emerald Coast and Null Space.

I still think it won't be Sonic only but with a greater focus on Sonic, and more or less the same amount of Sega characters from the other games, this way everyone will be happy. Sonic characters who I think should be included: Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Eggman, Shadow, Metal Sonic, Infinite (Forces representation), Sticks (Boom representation), Silver (fan favorite), Vector, Blaze, Rouge, Espio, Jet, 15 max.

Maybe Tangle as a comic representative, or Big for the sake of memes?

Since it was specified on that leaked slide or whatever as a kart racer, that makes me think it's gotta be something else entirely. Like, not an All-Stars nor a Sonic franchise-only thing...unless they've suddenly decided to go for karts instead, even though you'd think they'd want to differentiate from Mario Kart? Especially if it was a Sonic-only racer.

...Orrrrrr I'm taking "karting game" too literally and it's just a genre term used for racing mascot games. ?

Pretty much all of the modern Sonic racers have had their fare share of Sega bleed-over. Even the Riders series had the core unlockable cast of Sega properties. Even a 100% Sonic Kart racer would be likely to include at least the other main members of Sega batch of stepchildren.

I'm more interested to see where they go after Transformed. I doubt they would want to leave the mechanic completely, but if they shift the focus to something else, it'd have to be pretty well realized conceptually to stand above its predecessor right off the bat.

You know... looking back at the  All-Stars. With each and each instalment the lost and lost more and more of the "Sega" theme and got more and more into the "Sonic" theme. By changing the name from Sega Stars to SONIC & Sega All-Stars and putting a lot more focus on Sonic in the opening cinematics and even the freaking cover!

Really... this is so sad. Just freaking sad that one company is so depending on one single IP. Sega is really the only company when it comes to that. I mean, what if Sonic one day can not sell anything anymore? If he dies, Sega will die.

Now that I look at that slide again:

sumo-digital-5-6386tu50.jpg

It could be Crash Team Racing, couldn't it? :-/

Crash trilogy remaster was released for PS4 last year, and a lot of people asked for a Crash Team Racing remaster too. And Sumo proved themselves as a great kart game developer.

I would actually prefer a Crash Team Racing Remake over a Sonic only racing game. It would be better for the Crash Bandicoot Ip to cash in as many as possible before it once again faiths away for the next 5 - 10 years. Sonic will live on no matter what quality his have.

As the slide says "original development", it wouldn't be a CTR remake, but a new one.

With Sega not being specified, this makes the most sense. Aaron said it's not an all Star racing game, there's demand for a Crash Team Racing game, and Sumo know how to make it.

If it was Crash Activision would be in their list of partners

We already have a toy manufacturer saying there's a new Sonic Racing game coming in 2018... Plus ZhugeEX's hints.

The leaked slides are no longer our only clue.

Still in the camp where I'll take a Sonic-et-al-only racer than another SEGA one. If the All Stars Racing series has taught us anything, its that the Sonic content will just continually rehash the same tired old locales because they're still trying to push as much fanservice (despite the fans being sick to the back teeth of seeing checkerboard hills...) into the couple of stages they can give to Sonic. Also, it kinda miffs me seeing all the other SEGA characters brought into the current gen... when many of them haven't had a game in a long time.

Want me to be excited about Blaze from Streets of Rage tearing up the street? Like... give me a new Streets of Rage.

This doesn't make much sense.

Why would it matter if their franchises are alive?  I don't see how it would impact your enjoyment of the game.

In fact, I think SEGA adding characters from dead franchises can be a good thing...Nintendo does this with Super Smash Bros..., Most people got introduced to Earthbound when they saw Ness featured in that game.  Even though Earthbound was kinda niche and dead.   But SSB served as an introduction for new players to Earthbound.

We should really make a new topic about this because this SXSW news may not be this... anyway.

The first products will be on display at the International Toy Fair in New York City, with a focus on the core Sonic characters — the speedy hedgehog Sonic, the energetic Amy, Tails the two-tailed flying fox, Knuckles the powerful Echidna, Shadow the anti-hero hedgehog, Metal Sonic the evil robot hedgehog, and the mustachioed mastermind Dr. Eggman. Product categories include Gallery PVC dioramas, Minimates block figures, Vinimates vinyl figures and PVC mini-figures with collect-and-connect racetracks.

This is Diamond Select toys.

No connection to Zappies.

Again, why is it not possible that this is a completely new racing spin-off that stars Sonic and friends? You guys only see it as a bad continuation of the SEGA All-Stars Racing legacy. Maybe it's not the case? And it happens to be made by awesome developers Sumo Digital.

By the way, looking at that description, I'm very interested in those vinyl figures, are those something we've seen before in a catalogue? Maybe like the classic kidrobot series?

Well then... Maybe there's isn't a game at all? Nor SEGA's, nor Sonic's. C'mon SUMO, give us the real kart racer, will ya?

You're right. At least there's still hope for a Sonic Racing game.

But how old is the list? Who knooooooows.

The presentation was leaked a month ago, that list is not that old.

Besides, the age is actually irrelevant; if Activision aren't listed as a partner when the unannounced kart racer is said to be in the works in the same presentation, it's obviously nothing to do with them.

C'mon maaaaaan, faith.

Seriously tho', a new Crash Team Racing by Sumo has GOTY potential, hands freaking down.

This makes no sense. Following this logic, they might as well make only Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic/Tails/Knux playable, unless you consider talking bubbles some kind of playability for ANY other Sonic character, because I don't. The rest of the Sonic's cast is as relevant as SEGA's retired IPs at this point, they're never playable.

Assuming the game is a Sonic only kart racer, what if Sega allowed Sumo to use obscure Sonic characters? Like, they throw us for a loop and include Fang, Mighty, Sally, or Johnny Lightfoot? I'm not asking if it's realistic and I'm certainly not trying to get people's hopes up, but just as a hypothetical. Everyone knows how big Sega nerds Sumo is, what if they rounded off their lineup with those characters rather than 3-4 other Sega franchises like Riders use to do. Would reaction here be different, at least among those who find the Sonic only idea boring?

Except Shadow, in Forces. And Boom, despite its apparent termination this year, was fairly recent as well.

Madness! CNK is good, but CTR is just perfection. It's more solid, you know? The karts in CNK didn't felt was good to drive, it's like they don't have weight. The story mode tho', it's quite fun.
