Team Sonic Racing - Upcoming Sonic Racing Game

It's very energetic and sounds like the sort of thing I'd expect from Hyper Potions. It's pretty good. Not the best version, but I do like it. I want to hear a clean version of the Wisp Circuit track next.

I mean, yeah, it sound alright. It's not getting me all jazzed like Boo's House did since it's a bit hard to be too excited about yet another remix of Rooftop Run.

Perhaps next time they could do Dragon Road or Eggmanland. Or even Skyscrapper Scamper if they want to appeal to the nostalgic old New York vibe it gives me.

I think the main issue is the use of instruments. It's an odd mix of synth instruments of Jun's heavy guitar work and it sounds uneven as a result. Not helped that a fair amount of the instruments of the original track (namely the violins) are also absent for some reason.

Yeah, it sort of reminds me of Sonic 4's music in that sense.

So the track roster so far seems solid, we got fan favorites Rooftop Fun and Planet Wisp, and surprises like Ice Cap/Cool Edge and possibly Pumpkin Hill/Sandopolis. It's not what I exoected. Now if they could somehow merge Seaside and Green Hill that's be awesome, I don't want them as separate zones. Now we still have 2 zones unknown, I would welcome the Casino trope and Eggman base trope, but if they have something other than Casino Night and Death Egg it would impress me. Still, we have plenty of tropes and zones already, I don't know why they went with 7 global locations when they try to merge multiple zones into the same tracks, and each track likely uses unique assets.

Marker Street's a servicable remix, and despite being a collab with a different artist, it feels like it's a part of the same soundtrack as Boo's House, so that's good.  Overall though it feels a little flat - there's no highs or lows, and the natural highs and lows that come from the melody have been ironed down to all feel the same. It lacks the "rustic" energy of Spagonia without any piano or string swelling.  Ohtani's own remixes in Generations were a fucking tough act to follow though.

My only concerns now is whether every single song is going to have this exact same energy that we've heard in the songs so far.  It could cause the music to become a little stale and predictable.  Transformed had sorta the same deal at times (with exceptions) where a lot of the remixes could be chalked up to "Richard Jacques put a modern beat on top of it".  I hope Jun's gonna pull in the reigns now and then and give us something a little different to listen to here and there.

My other curiosity is we know they're doing the SaSASR style of diving the tracks into zones with three tracks a piece...  I wonder if all three tracks in a zone will have the same song?  I sure hope not coz that makes for 7 gameplay songs in the whole game lol (and will make the final track feel completely unspecial even if they give it a cool aesthetic to differenciate it from it's two siblings from earlier in the game).  While that's unlikely, the second question is whether we can expect three remixes of Rooftop Run for the Rooftop Run tracks, or three different songs - obvious choices for tracks 2 and 3 would be Rooftop Run Night and maybe Endless Possibility (unless Jun is sticking to his weird promise of never covering that song lol), but another option would be using a myriad of different songs from across the series for a similar locale.  For example the three Sandopolis tracks could use, Sandopolis of course as we've heard, but then Pyramid Cave and Arid Sands for the other two tracks - etc.  Ice Mountain could use Cool Edge, Frozen Factory and uhh... well, Ice Mountain, I guess, lol.

Be interesting to see what happens.  I'm hoping for at least a consistent style but since this is a Jun Senoue-helmed soundtrack so I... probably shouldn't.  Guy is a fantastic musician but he has a track record in his games for playing it wild and loose with regards to what zones have a traditional "the same song for every act but remixed differently" and what zones have "every act has a unique song" across the soundtracks of singular games (Sonic 4 Ep II being a particularly noticable offender).

Next time on Jez's nerd-ass Sonic music organisation corner: Does Hidden Palace use the same music as Lava Reef Act 2 or does Lava Reef Act 2 use the same music as Hidden Palace?  Why do returning bosses Zavok and Metal Sonic get remixes while returning boss Egg Dragoon gets an original song in Forces?  And conspiracy theory - how on earth could the composer of JP Sonic CD be responsible for Iron Fortress in Forces I mean c'mon?

You know, I completely forgot this game will have car mods that -supposedly- change the look of it. And we haven't seen any yet o.O

Also, it is confirmed that we CAN mix teams, right? Having all speed characters in the same team for example.

... Please? I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for that Beefy-Roster today.

That'd be great. The Omochao Quad really would be a bonus then!

Yes. You can mix teams.

Surely, you lie... Right?!

The track roster seems to be grabbing some unexpected tracks into the mix, so that's making me a little happy. If they continue to throw in some curveballs (I'm thinking Tropical Resort and Final Rush/Chase now), then I'll be very confident in the track roster given.

Now my next concern is in the character roster. Even the character select looks really empty with so much space gone unused because of how small the roster is. There's a delay, maybe the team can add in some new characters? Bring along groups like the Babylon Rogues! Or, wishful thinking, the Hooligans! The roster feels so barren as is with such a large universe.

I really hope they go for more variety with the track roster now that the team have more time to work on the game. They're bringing Sonic & Knuckles' Sandopolis which is nice. Still have to see it in action, because it's likely to be more Lost World's Desert Ruins or Adventure 2's Death Chamber than the former... at least the remix is great, right?! But, as many of you, I really wish they could pick some odd balls, say, Azure Lake from Sonic 3's Competition Mode, huh, how about that? That would be sick.

Hmm, sweet.

I don't know... It depends on who you want.

Both games have the full main and secondary cast (aside from Eggman but he's in no matter what) but the characters that aren't playable in both games differ a bit.

Sonic Runners has Tikal, Sticks, and Mephiles playable. Werehog Sonic too if you, for some reason, count that as a different character. I don't really.

Sonic Forces: Speed Battle has Chaos, Jet, Wave, Storm, Zavok, and Zazz.

I'd still go with Speed Battle when it comes to rosters.

Honestly, when TSR was announcement I legitimately thought the roster was going to be close to Sonic Runners, as seeing the HUGE amount of fan service that game has, and it was made by Sonic Team, so I thought: "well, if they're open to this kind of fan service, and they also allowed even more fan service in LEGO Dimensions, imagine what Sumo would be able to do!"... Just to get the Heroes roster and wisps weapons slaped in my face... when the Sonic world has a lot of cool stuff that could be used as weapons, cool places as tracks and LOADS of characters as racers...

Yeah, I'm still disappointed.

I know it’s not that likely but I just hope that they use the extra development time to add more characters.

Heck, I’ll be satisfied if they add just one more team to the roster. (Babylon Rogues, maybe?)

They must add all the remaining characters in a DLC even if they don't participate in the story. We need the babylon rogues, Tikal, Nega, ESPIO, CHARMY, CREAM, GEMERL,

Steady on.  I wouldn't say no to Nega, Gemerl, or even Tikal if offered, and the Babylon Rogues would obviously be a good fit, but they're far from being as relevant or as weird in their absence as Espio, Charmy, and Cream.

It would certainly be ironic if the delay gave time to implement those three characters who were obviously cut just to make room.  With that said, though, I don't remotely expect the delay to result in more content of any actual substance.

That's certainly the smart way to go about it.

When a new game is announced, expect less, not more. If you expect less, more than likely you won't be wrong. And if you actually get more, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Still hoping for collectible medals ala ASRT at the bare minimum for appearances by the remainder of the cast. Perhaps we can even get some classic, other media, and misc. SEGA characters as these collectible medals.

It's Seaside Hill...from All-Stars Racing 1:

Would've rather had a Transformed track, but eh.

Well... at least it's not Green Hill Zone.

I'm still getting tired of levels like Seaside Hill being constantly rehashed, though, and I'm sure that many others will be tired of it too eventually (if they're not already).

This just makes me miss Transformed's Ocean View and the return of You Can Do Anything. I don't know if they could have done anything to make me love this track, honestly.

Okay, they got lazy. Seriously, a level from the first game? Bah. Remix is decent, but... I swear it's the exact same Generations' remix, but with some electronic synth over it. Well, lazy level, lazy remix I suppose.
