Team Sonic Racing - Upcoming Sonic Racing Game

Anyone got that list of things fans blame Aaron for that are nothing to do with him because we have a new one to add.

I like Webber. I think he's one of the best things about the marketing team at the moment. However, he's not flawless just as no one is, and I can't imagine many people in the marketing team who would know as well as Webber that emphasising the R of the logo would cause quite as much fanfare as it did.

True, but it's not a totally wild idea either, it's totally plausible that he could have come up with the idea. Either way, the main point is that it's probably the marketing team's decision and has nothing to do with the development team.

I could easily see the logo design team re-using the R as a nice little nod to the first console Sonic racing game in the franchise, and the marketing team realising it'd be a cool tease reveal to start with that because it would make it clear to long-time fans that it is a racing game, without thinking of the consequences that the same fans would assume it has a close tie to Sonic R.

Honestly I feel too much stock is put in all the memeing.  I'm pretty sure the R was used because they know Sonic R is a beloved little nugget of Sonic content* and not because LOL TAILS DOLL CAN YOU FEEL THE SUNSHINE

*(Source of this idea being that it was treated as a core piece of the Sonic chronology by the Sonic Mania reveal trailer.)

Okay, they got lazy. Seriously, a level from the first game? Bah. Remix is decent, but... I swear it's the exact same Generations' remix, but with some electronic synth over it. Well, lazy level, lazy remix I suppose.

With Rooftop Run being the same, I hope this is'nt the norm.

It's pretty crap that Ultimate will only have like, 9 new stages after DLC too.  But... there will be 109 of the buggers, and obviously Smash is a game that is more about iteration with each new game rather than a whole new experience.

TSR is touted as a new experience, so it's kind of a bummer to be revisiting locales we've already seen in HD multiple times - extra so when we're going to see them in exactly the same way again, as with Whale Lagoon (actually I'm curious whether they'll, ahem, "downgrade" the graphics to the simpler toy-esque TSR style for it when we see it up-close).

To be honest, for me the comparison is that Mario Kart comes up with 16 uniquely-themed brand new tracks every game, ON TOP of remastering 16 familiar ones - almost to the point of unfamiliarity with half of MK8's.  The fact that TSR will have 21 tracks with only about seven unique themes between them AND apparently at least one if not more will be straight re-used from an existing game is kind of a bummer.  I'm trying not to get too hung up on it though since it's clearly a matter of budget, something that naturally Nintendo's first-house productions working on one of their flagship franchises (Mario Kart as basically it's own series now, not even a "spin-off" of Mario), have a LOT more of than a third-party working for another third-party on what is clearly considered a standalone spin-off game until further notice.

Team Sonic Racing also is a iteration like Smash its base gameplay is still racing but added teams Smash is still base off fighting but added everyone and every stage. Sega didn't touted it as new experience they said it wasn't a sequel to any other racer.

Most cartoon racers have died Sonic still putting racers out on the market says a lot about how good they are.

In all PR interviews they have been trying their best to disconnect it from SaSASR and Transformed and "not a sequel" generally means it's meant to be a new experience.

Even if it was a sequel, re-using Whale Lagoon would still be crap so.

While this is definitely disappointing even for me, did you honestly not see rehashed tracks coming? After the panel that said remastered tracks, that's what I expected, a returning cup, so either they just slap those 3 Seaside Hill tracks from ASR, which would be the worst thing, or they bring back one Casino Park and the Death Egg tracks, which sadly would take the whole zone roster... It's just disappointing. If they could somehow have 6 new zones plus 1 track from Seaside Hill, Casino Park and Death Egg as returning cup, that would be the best option, but I don't think it's realistic to expect that. "I'm an optimist, but also a realist".

Ah, I doubt they'll spend 3 entire zones on old tracks, especially since we haven't seen the Climax tracks yet. Always needs to be a rainbow road/ Ages style climax track somewhere.

But 1 zone spend to older tracks is likely. While a Sea/ casino/ Eggfleet collection makes the most sense thematically, it'd be neat if they pick Sky Sanctuary from Transformed (The fly segment only appears in the final lap, so they can have a car-only verson of it)
If only so we score another point for this exciting Sonic generations recycling bingo party we have going on.

It should've been the first level revealed...

Do you think that with the delay they can...

...Work it out?

(sorry).

Don't apologize, if i was to rate the pun, i'd give it a Number One outta 1

And yes, i hope they include at least one R track, i like the ones we got so far, i even understand the addition of Whale Lagoon, i mean, transformed had 4 ASR tracks included, this one having returning tracks was almost a certainty.

I'd rather get Galactic Parade and it's flashier and easier to remove the flying section.

God no, the worst part of Sky Sanctuary in Transformed is the car segment. Also, the track literally starts in the air. The whole third lap is flying tho'.

It's really fishy that they said multiple times that this isn't a sequel to the All-Stars Racing, yet they picked a level from that game, in name and theme. Unless the TSR version is like an Act 2 ala Sonic Mania, it would be pretty shitty. Especially because out of all Seaside Hill tracks, Whale Lagoon was the most boring in level design... Sigh. Just admit this is just a low budget All-Stars Racing without the All-Stars and stop embarassing yourself, SEGA. At least stick to your idea.

This is true.

I welcome that idea too. I just welcome it with a vision that I can't help but feel would be better than what we're getting now.

It's not even really all that complicated a thing I want either. 3 characters you left out, zones that are all different, and better designed tracks.

Maybe that's asking for too much nowadays though. I don't want to be hard on the newbies at Sumo working on this game to be honest but the consumer side of me is yearning for a bit more than this. If the games are gonna have so little stuff in them, can they at least not also have things we just saw a while back?

I personally can see the comparisons between TSA and ASR. TSA is just like this game only with much less characters and also now only focus on Sonic and his bunch of friends.

I can somewhat empathize with "TSR is not ASR3" because under no circumstances will I ever accept Colors DS as Sonic Rush 3.

What about Generations 3DS?

The Crash Team Racing remake probably just killed Team Sonic Racing:

Out in June 21st.

Which is exactly 1-month after Team Sonic Racing's release. So I believe this is the first time (correct me if I'm wrong) a Crash and a Sonic game competed with each other in the racing genre.

Kinda sad how that one Crash Trailer showcases more tracks, racers, and atmosphere then Team Sonic Racing's entire year long campaign so far did.
Altough to be fair, it's kinda pointless to keep surprises with Crash when that game's already been out for more then a decade now.

I still prefer Team Sonic racing tough, but I can't deny how Crash's trailer is way much better then Sonic's awkward "Here's a logo! Come back in 3 months and we'll show you 3 seconds of vague gameplay." campaign.

Yes. I have the feeling, that Crash Team Racing will be the fun racer of 2019 that people will be more existed for. Sega shows nothing of and also almost never talks about TSR. I think the main issue with STR is, that almost all the Trailer are CGI cinematic trailers, which look great, but almost never really show us gameplay.

It is like Sega doesn't want want us to know about this game's existence.
