Oh expert difficulty is neat. I've been playing transformed recently. I'm trying to get 200 stars and I'm currently at like 175 sooo still a bit to go.

At least the screenshot seems to show thunder deck which is the best ASR track. I'm really hoping we at least get an egg fleet track out of this. If we have to suffer through so many re-used tracks. Please get us a damn good egg fleet track. Cmon.

Oh, Is that..a blue sky on Thunder Deck? Thunder Deck during the daylight? But it's called Thunder..never mind, it might be the closest thing to Egg Fleet we'll get after all. Interesting how they're repurposing ASR's final track into the first and presumably easiest of that zone, even before Dark Arsenal. (They had a similar thing going in Transformed where later/more difficult tracks became darker). It was my favourite for actually feeling like Final Fortress though so I'm glad it wasn't the one to get the shaft for the Death Egg Hangar. I only have a small glimmer of hope now they sneaked in Galactic Parade, because I really don't feel like having three Casino Parks in this.

Also, the expert speed/difficulty mode has been confirmed for almost a year, along with customization and being able to chain boosts up to Level 6. Sumo dished out all the information in their interviews when Sega themselves wouldn't.

What I'm hoping for is that Dark Arsenal screenshot is part of the inside of Thunder Deck and that's the only returning Final Fortress track. The second track is a full on egg fleet track and the last track is another final fortress track that takes place entirely outside. Thunder Deck was the only Final Fortress track that, as as you said, feels part of Final Fortress.

Galactic Parade of perhaps a new track.

This is either Roulette Road or a new track. It'd make sense that Roulette Road would be considered the first and easiest track tho. It's weird that they have Ocean View as easier than Whale Lagoon tho. Perhaps that track was modified more than we think.

A new track in an otherwise recycled zone seems really unlikely at this point, but I mainly won't get my hopes up only to be disappointed; I wanted a real Egg Fleet track even back in 2010, jumping from ship to ship while being attacked by the laser cannons. With Doctor's Mine, Frozen Junkyard and the Pyramid base track, there's already a lot of Egg bases in the game though. (What was up with teasing Pumpkin Hill, anyway)

That's definitely Roulette Road, set during sunset. It was the first Casino track in ASR as well, so unfortunately Pinball Highway could still appear..but I hope Bingo Party gaining the space theme was done for a reason, to make the jump to Galactic Parade. Then again, they seem to have done that for most returning tracks, such as Ocean View at dawn. It really is weird how Whale Lagoon isn't the first one though! That track was so basic even compared to Ocean View, and I liked the one with the underwater tube a lot better.

I refuse to believe that we're getting 9 recycled tracks. That's a ridiculous number. Besides, I doubt they'd have a recycled track as the final track. I hope you're right and that it's Galactic Parade or a new track for the sake of variety.

All the seaside hill tracks are pretty basic honestly but I agree on the underwater tunnel one. I guess we can only hope that Whale Lagoon was changed to be better/more interesting than we think.

I just had a realization that makes me think Pinball Highway won't come back. Pinball Highway shared the tunnel gimmick with Ocean Ruin (underwater tunnel). If they were gonna bring back the tunnel gimmick for one track, they'd surely reuse it for the other right ? Ocean Ruin would have been a better choice than Whale Lagoon so I think this might actually be an argument against Pinball Highway coming back. Combined with Bingo Party gaining the space theme, Galactic Parade or something else might be possible. I guess I might be stretching here but I'm hoping I'm right.

Honestly, Sky Road feels like the actual finale/"Rainbow Road" of the game, while Pyramid Base looks super tricky and may be our obligatory "Bowser's Castle" if that makes any sense. I wish they'd deliver an even better last track, but Egg Hangar is like the..all-star.. of the Sumo racers, so it may just end there.

Also the tunnel gimmick is part of Doctor's Mine this time, so that wouldn't have influenced any track decisions. Whale Lagoon may just be more suitable for the team gameplay and have more room for adding Technique/Power roads.

Nah, Sky Road doesn't feel like a final track. It looks too easy and it was the second track to be revealed in the CGI cutscene. Would they really reveal the final track so early ? Pyramid Base definitely looks difficult enough to be part of the final cup tho.

The tunnel gimmick for Doctor's Mine functions differently than in all star but I do see your point. It doesn't seem like they're adding technique/power roads on the reused tracks from what we've seen tho.

I'm not 100% sure, but it looks as if they added some badniks/pillars and a possible off-road section in the left double-turn in Whale Lagoon, which could be a minor advantage for power/technique characters. Not adding those to the classic tracks would be extra lazy and just give Speed characters a definite advantage on almost half of the game, but then again Wisp Circuit doesn't have a power path either.

Are you referring to this ?

It'd definitely be an unfair advantage for speed types but power characters can still ram other players and they have access to exclusive wisp items. The technique characters get the short end of the stick tho.

That portal thing the racers appear out of in the beginning isn't...

You think it's the phantom ruby ?

Unfortunately, yes.

Also, if you look at the jewel in the middle of Dodonpa's hat, it has a resemblance to the Phantom Ruby (I would also mention the Mania credits remix, but that could just work as a nod to Mania), so it's probably a safe assumption that they're going to connect the game's story to Mania Plus and shoehorn Classic Sonic in the Modern timeline yet again by revealing that Dodonpa is Classic Eggman.

I'm sorry, but I'm just seeing too many signs pointing to the possibility and it's worrying me. I'm tired of seeing Classic Sonic starring in Modern Sonic games. I'm tired of all of this nostalgia pandering and re-used stuff from previous games. I'm tired of having Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic being separate branches just so that they can push nostalgia pandering everywhere, including in the Modern games. 2D Sonic and 3D Sonic desperately need to become the same character again for the sake of the franchise.

Phantom Ruby does not necessarily mean that classic games are involved. There hasn't been any signs that anything classic is in the game. I wonder if the game will have boss fights.

The TSS preview confirms my worry that it's 9 old tracks. I hope at least Galactic Parade is in… it's bad because the new tracks look really cool and it's a shame there are only 12. This game is really lacking in content.

New TSR footage. Shows footage of Lost Palace (with a sweet aesthetic makeover), Frozen Factory and Hidden Volcano.

The preview confirms the final location is Final Fortress, so I imagine it’s just the 3 ASR tracks.

Well that really does suck. What the hell. 9 old tracks when like 2 out of 3 of the final fortress tracks suck. Roulette Road sucks. Sigh. I dunno. This is really disappointing.

You know, I wouldn't be so disappointed by reused tracks, but... they are simply boring. There are barely alternate routes and... stuff in them. Eh.

Agreed. Like the only damn good reused track is Thunder Deck. Unless Egg Hangar and Galactic Parade are in.

Now that we know all 7 zones, I'm pleased to see that the 6 non-original zones of TSR will represent a wide array of beloved Sonic games, via locales from Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Unleashed, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Colours and of course, Sonic Heroes.

It's pretty bad. They've basically recycled the entirety of the original ASR's Sonic content, with the sole exception of Seaside Hill Act 3 being subbed out for ASRT's Seaside Hill.

Really is the most offensive thing.  At the absolute very least, I hoped we'd get like, one track from each ASR/Heroes zone that was an original design, making use of the existing upgraded assets for the ports, but nope.

I wonder if ASR is old and forgotten about enough that a lot of people won't actually notice the amount of recycled content? Because there can be no other justification for them trying to get away with it. Yes, the old tracks have all recieved a peri significant makeover, but the groundwork already existed and born new and old tracks share assets across three courses.

SEGA delayed this game by around half a year, but it's still so underwhelming. A tiny cast of 15 racers (and 12 are in play at any one time, remember), and just 21 courses spread over 7 zones, with only 4 of those zones actually being new. Almost half of the levels are old.

It makes you wonder the state the game was in before the delay.

I don't think anyone outside the fanbase will notice the retro tracks, including reviewers; ASR was quickly forgotten once Transformed rolled around the corner two years later.

That doesn't make it okay though, they grabbed everything Sonic from All-Stars and built half a game around it, and it's showing how limited the budget for this project must be. I'm sure Sumo would include a lot more fanservice if they could, and with the downward spiral the franchise's fallen into after Transformed's release I'm happy we're even getting a spin-off in 2019 that doesn't have the name Mario written next to it, so I want to support this for what it is, which looks enjoyable - even though we should be able to expect better. I'm mainly hoping this finds some success so Sumo Digital can do bigger things again in the future, maybe even bring back S0L and the others for another All-Stars.

This looks so pale in comparison to Transformed because Transformed was fantastic, but that game only got to happen in the first place because of ASR's success. Sega were stupid for declining their offers on making another title for so many years, until Sonic basically became a budget series.

It's wild just how tired and off the voice actors sound, wow. Everything else about the game presentation-wise is great so it's reeeeeally jarring.
