Character and Circuit Discussion for Team Sonic Racing 🏁

On second thought, looking at them again, the vehicles are kind of growing on me, honestly, yeah I like them, they've got personality, it's just those Team Rose cars that are soulless and bland, I don't like Amy's and the Chao's, but Big's one is actually nice looking.

It's kind of boring that people are focusing on the lack of characters, Cream, Blaze etc. instead of focusing on what is ACTUALLY in the game, I mean, the content is there, gameplay is there, it's just the roster that is a bit lacking. On the other hand, I like how vocal the fans are because they are attached to the characters, like I am, to the point of boycotting the game though... I don't know.

I'm still glad that this game satisfied my wish, and I got a fully Sonic spin-off, a racing game made by Sumo, and more Sonic characters than 7-8.

For the fans who wanted SEGA characters... I think they should make a fully SEGA cast spin-off, without Sonic perhaps, or just with Sonic's face on it without Eggman, Tails etc. it would keep things balanced. I wouldn't complain.

Omochao's replacement, as he himself is racing together with his Chao buddies.

Question: Does it seem like they're gonna have DLC for this yet?

On Team Rose. 😞

Wait, then why does he seem to have an Eggmobile-like craft  himself?

There's only two tracks and some real not-fun sounding gimmicks to talk about otherwise.

And I mean, honestly, Sumo's racing gameplay is fun but I already have that with better characters.  My girlfriend wants this game so I'm hoping it's good so I can enjoy it too, but I'm not seeing much of interest here, especially nothing worth poring over in discussion.

If content is thin on the ground, then people are going to pick up on that. And when "what's there" is being called into doubt anyway (the team-racing gimmick is rather dubious and several previews have picked up on this), then it's not 'boring' so much as it is just fairly reasonable.

Making a fully SEGA-cast spinoff would be great in the parallel world where that would sell, but Sonic is admittedly a fair part of why those games sold. Hence combining the market reach of Sonic and the SEGA characters was a great move, and all this has accomplished is alienating those who weren't particularly fond of Sonic, but were in it for stuff like Jet Set Radio or Panzer Dragoon. Particularly as, no matter how much they could perhaps argue otherwise, 99% of Sonic fans would've bought another Sonic & SEGA title anyway, because the bulk of the main Sonic cast would still be in it.

99%? I'm that 1% haha Wouldn't buy it because of Sonic, in fact, if I was in charge, only Sonic and Eggman would get in. I barely even play as him anyways. I bought the other All-Stars because they're fun, solid and beautiful games, especially Transformed, that has a lot of variety. SEGA had awesome and creative IPs, characters and worlds, IMO, way more creative than Nintendo's. The difference is that Nintendo still pushes their classic IPs (granted it feels like they only have 5 or 6 franchises, but still, they always get new and exciting games).

Team Sonic Racing didn't got my attention in the slightest, not only because it's all Sonic, which honestly ISN'T all that bad... but -so far- they're clearly not taking full advantage of this fact, adding only the vanilla characters instead of obscure and different ones. Same with levels/tracks. And also because the team mechanic looks like the perfect recipe to rage, even the PR people had trouble trying to justify this decision. Gotta have the full game to judge how this plays out, but from what I've seen, it looks like a shot in the foot.

Damn, they’re gonna pack poison into every copy of the game? That’s rough.

@Tracker_TD

No,  not that kind of toxic!  😂

The toxicity I am talking about is from online,  ranging from rabid shippers,  rabid fans of (insert character here),  (insert class)  mains,  to rabid classic fanboys only here to diss the game. Combining online and this fanbase is a ticking time bomb.

Shippers don't ship Sonic characters with cars (or at least, they didn't last time I checked).

Slightly possible if a fave doesn't get in, I'll give ya that - even then it's mostly easy to ignore.

It's a cartoony racing game with Sonic, not Overwatch. Also you can customize the cars so it's not like certain characters will have their stats locked that way forever.

We're too busy playing Sonic Mania Plus, released this Wednesday on PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch to be bothered, sorry.

@Ayliffe

Talking about the rabid SonAmy,  ShadOuge etc.  fans who may get triggered when people don't agree with their pairing. Brought this up because of the custom team mechanic.

I'm still on the rocks on wether I'll get this game or not, based on future updates, but so far it does seem like a step backwards from Transformed with at least not including some more obscure characters into the mix so far and not being let on on any more courses there are.

I speculate Classic Eggman will at least cameo in the game, due to what happened at the end of Mania Plus.

That new fella was mentioned at SDCC I guess.  I still stand by my prediction of who we have now + Chaotix with Charmy switched out + Egg/Metal/New Guy.

So what could be the next returning zones? I'd love Lava Mountain (Lost World, Runners) and Hydrocity to be in this, but there is likely a zone from Forces (probably Green Hill since it was never in the All-Stars Racing games) and... a classic zone, could be Hydrocity, or Flying Battery, or Casino Night.

The rest should be new zones.

Bump.

The roster is so short that somebody is definitely getting screwed, if DLC doesn't happen.

A Team with Vector (basically confirmed due to the posters) is either Charmy and Espio, or Silver and Blaze, because I don't see them getting snobbed, but... yep, 2 out of these 4 are not in the game. Things would have been extremely simple, if they had put Cream and Blaze in Team Rose instead of Chao and Big, and instead of a team of villains, Metal Sonic, Dr. Eggman and Silver as unlockables. If they really didn't want any more characters, but an extra team would have been enough. Although I love the Chao's (except for Omochao), they could have put Cream, Cheese, Hero Chao and Dark Chao if they want to go all out.

If Team Chaotix and Team Eggman are really a thing, here's my updated ideas for further teams in a dream roster:

Team Dimension: Blaze (Speed), Silver (Tech), Sticks (Power)

Team Babylon: Jet (Speed), Wave (Tech), Storm (Power)

Team Classic: Classic Sonic (Speed), Ray (Tech), Mighty (Power)

You know what sucks about the overuse of Chemical Plant? It's that I actually would really be interested in racing through a track based on it under normal circumstances. Especially the inside of it. The way the interior of Chemical Plant looked in Forces is actually pretty nice to look at visually (and it's also got the only Modern Sonic level that makes good use of it's 2D gimmick). The stuff with the pink water and the blue balls would make for interesting racing obstacles...

However, it feels so obligatory now. Things would have been so much better had it been left alone after Generations but no. Both Mania and Forces needed revamped versions of it because it's so important to see it again now.

Even if they wanted to insist on the Team format(which I don't mind), they honestly could've just went with a Crash Nitro Kart setup when it comes to the out-of-story roster.

Yeah, still wondering why they didn't just do that if they were gonna limit the roster to 15 or so.

Especially given Omochao's traditional role.

In a game that seems to emphasise team banter, someone like Omochao is an interesting choice in terms of how his usual dialogue can bounce off other character as full-blown interaction.

It totally fits this game, as Omochao is usually annoying, and in TSR everyone has annoying lines.
