Exclusive to Motobug

Making it's comeback for the third year in a row after two highly successful events, it's the Sonic Musical Spectacular! Originally created as a way to celebrate Sonic's anniversary and the anniversary of SSMB's exclusive streaming channel - Motobug, the Sonic Musical Spectacular is an event designed to look back on some of the best songs from the vast history of Sonic the Hedgehog. Motobug itself is a stream that's run by a group of SSMB members including myself that handles various events such as E3, Show Streams, and more. With both anniversaries falling together, it seemed only natural to run an event to celebrate both. With that, Sonic Musical Spectacular as a whole has become a really fun and positive yearly event and we wanted to bring it back this year for another round, with new creative staff on the Motobug team, we're hoping we can make this one the best Musical Spectacular event to date.

So, in terms of the event itself, it's not majorly changed from previous years, especially last year's event. In this event, you can request your favourite Sonic songs and they will be added to the playlist, granted they follow the rules (E.G - there's a slot open for said game). Nearly every game in the series will be listed below with four song slots, three of them being regular song slots (Example: Sonic Unleashed - Endless Possibilities, Jungle Joyride Day, Eggmanland Day), while the forth slot is a "Remix" slot, where you can request a remix of a Sonic song you really like. So as an example, each game will be laid out like this:

Similarly Everyone has exactly four requests to work with, three of them being regular song requests, and one of them being the remix request. The only catch is that you can only request one song per game per person in order to keep things fair. So for example, you can't use all of your requests to fill up the Sonic 2 slots, you need to use your requests for different games. Usually, we like to keep the slots fixed, but if we absolutely must - like for really popular games, or special cases where there's different versions with different soundtracks (E.G Colours Wii/DS) - We'll expand the slot number to allow more than the normal amount if we absolutely must.

This part is important: Please ensure that if you're linking YouTube videos of your requests - it's NON-extended versions of the songs. I.E the regular version of the songs.

Then after all of the songs is compiled, we'll be streaming the entire playlist that SSMB members created on Motobug (SSMB's exclusive stream):

But on top of that - we'll also be bringing back the option to create a remix and have it shown live on Motobug - but to be clear - this part is entirely optional and you do not need to do it to take part in the event.

IMPORTANT: And to make it clear as there has been confusion on this before - You do not need to make and submit your own remixes. The main event itself is based around you picking your favourite songs from the long line of songs in the Sonic series and requesting them here. Same with requesting a remix made by someone else. While making your own remixes is fine, that is not what the event is about.

I repeat: simply request your favourite Sonic songs and a remix request (A remix made by someone else). That is all you need to partake in this event.

Not only are we bringing back a fun event for another year, but we've also got a SSMB award/badge for everyone who takes part in the event!

There are a few rules to follow when taking part in the event! First things first, I want to quote @Kiah with what she said a year back with her last event as I feel it's an important rule:

There will be no posting offensive or sexual content. If it happens, you're banned, no ifs ands or buts. 

-The stream is meant to be for fun

The Motobug streams are meant to be a fun community event for everyone on SSMB. It's meant to just be a lighthearted place for everyone to chill out and watch stuff and have fun with each other. Please do not come into the stream to fling insults at yourself, or using it to discuss your issues at length. Not only are most people in the stream not likely qualified to speak regarding those subjects, but those kinds of topics should be going on the Personal Discussion sub-forum here. 

-No Spamming 

As with SSMB, we do not tolerate spamming the chat, especially with image embedding now being present. Give everyone a chance to speak and discuss, and don't take up the entire chat box for yourself. 

-Trolling

No trolling. Simple. As with the staff on SSMB, we want to ensure everyone on Motobug has a good and fun time. Because of that, we are adopting the same zero-tolerance policy on trolling as they do. It won't be tolerated, so please don't do it. 

-Be respectful

This one should be common sense. Be respectful to your fellow community members. Be friendly to them and just in general try to have a friendly attitude. Motobug's a place for everyone to have fun. This includes the same things SSMB does, flaming members, stirring drama, starting arguments, and insulting people will not be tolerated. Simple. 

-Be respectful to Staff 

The same way you should be respectful to other members, you should be respectful to the staff too. At the end of the day, not only are we normal members like you all are, but we're taking time out of our days to run these events that tend to take a ton of organisation, and effort to make happen, so be respectful. 

Finally, there's a few rules for the event specifically:

• Last year, a few people did their requests in-character in a role-play fashion. This is fine, but please do not use images as we had an issue last year where neither myself or Kiah could access the OP to update it due to the massive number of things to load. 
• Please ensure if you are linking a YouTube video, it's linked as a NON-EXTENDED version of the song in question. When compiling the playlist for the stream itself, it creates a lot more work hunting down non-extended versions. 
• Please be aware that while I will be doing my best to keep the song list above updated, and Kiah likely will too, please look at recent posts to ensure your requests haven't been taken up and the lists weren't updated yet. Also in general, please take care to look at the song list to ensure you aren't entering a song that's already been submitted or a song for a closed game.

I'll update this as more common questions are asked, but to reiterate some things:

Q: What's the Event?

It's a streaming event to celebrate Sonic's 27th birthday. You submit your song requests in this topic and I'll add them to the song list above. We will then stream it on Motobug on the 14th July. 

Q: What's a Motobug?

Other than a badnik, it's an exclusive stream for SSMB that's been running for the past three years - covering massive streams like the reveal of Mania and Forces, E3, and various streams.

Q: How do I take part in this event?

To quote myself from last year:

A. To make this absolutely clear, as we had this issue last year and it caused people to not join. You do not have to create your own remixes. All you have to do is request some of your favourite Sonic OSTs, and if you want, one of your favourite remixes by someone else. We will then do a huge Sonic Musical Spectacular Stream on Motobug where all of the requests are played, followed by the 2nd Year SSMB Community Celebration video.  

Q: Do I need to submit a song I created?

No, it is entirely optional. 

Q: Do I have to use all of my requests?

Nope, you don't have to use all of your requests, this goes for both normal OST requests and the remix request.

Q. Extensions for a game?

As with the previous years, if there's high demand, I will add a few more slots for a popular game. If you've looked through the list, you'll notice Mania has already been given an extended list due to the fact it's so insanely popular it's likely it'll get a lot of buzz. Max extension will be five however unless a special circumstance arises, 2 for remixes. 

Q. Same Song, Different Versions:

Depends on the context. With certain games, it's fine, like Generations which has it's entire OST based around revamping older OSTs. However, for example with Rush, you can't have the Blazy Mix and the normal mix due to them being relatively similar. So if Get Edgy is on it for example, it counts as one song, not a Sonic and Blaze version.

I didn't know if this Micheal Jackson mash up/remix of Studiopolis counted as a remix, so I went with a safe Tee Lopes remix of Ice Cap.

Sonic Mania's closed up except for it's last remix slot, could you pick something else please?

Also, Ice Cap was already chosen. the MJ Studiopolis remix should be fine though.

Hey we're going through Sonic's musical history here! This is such a great little tune that always has such a "nostalgia" feeling to it!
