Quick overview, gameplay is from these tracks:

- Mother's Canyon, featuring Mother Wisp

-  Doctor's Mine

- Hidden Volcano

- Boo's House, featuring King Boom Boo

- Bingo Party from ASR with that Bingo Highway remix

- (Apparently) Ocean's view from ASRT

- The second twilight themed Rooftop Run track where apparently Super Sonic Racing plays???

Seems like the ground for this last track changes Colors

I do love the idea of customizing the colors of the vehicles since an issue I always had ever since S&SASR is that the vehicle's base color being the same as the color of the characters made them visually blend with each other.

So Iizuka said this:

"As you play, whether you win or lose, you earn currency in-game which you can use to get random prizes. As you get these prizes, you will begin to collect different car parts for different characters."

I really dislike that the prizes are random. I hope it's not not a grindy loot-box system, and especially that there aren't options to pay real money for more currency. I'm pretty sure Mario Kart 7 and 8 have random unlocks based on total coin collection, which isn't ideal but it's not offensively bad either. The currency in this game is more than likely to be the rings we've seen scattered across tracks that haven't had any noticeable application yet. It's just the fact that this game let's you buy random items, whilst also having special rare parts that has me worried.

I can't say I'm too worried about it myself. Only really because they haven't gotten into the Loot-Box scam machine yet and a part of me feels like if they were going to do it, they would have already. Forces just handed you all that customizable junk after every level and gave that Shadow DLC to us for free. The one thing they tried to sell us ended up being free too.

This isn't me saying it won't happen but I've gotta be fair here. They haven't given me much of a reason to think it would.

Rooftop Run.. At night? Does this mean the Werehog could be a hidden unlockable racer?

Not even a tiny bit.

Also want to mention that I think it's quite funny that the customisation options in this game shit all over Forces, where you could only pick from three colour variants of each piece clothing (and 99% of those clothes look awful). Kinda funny.

I think... or at least I hop it's similar to that of OnRush.

How that game works is that the player has a level/rank, each time you level up you get a loot box + Currency.

You also get 'currency' by completing races in 1st, 2nd or 3rd place.

Each box has 3 objects in them, at random, but the drops rates for the rare stuff is pretty good, like every 2 boxes you'll get a rare item.

Duplicate items are converted to currency, you can use this currency to buy another box, or the item you want.

I think when I'd finished with the game I'd unlocked around 70% of the stuff and still had lots of money left over.

Man, now THAT looks neat, doesn't it? Should've been in the first trailers, God dang. There's a lot of stuff to customize, it would've helped set TSR apart from the other kart racers around maybe even better than the team mechanics... And just the fact that you can make Sonic's car red, as it should be, it's already great.

I'm liking the look of most of this, but I'm a bit worried about the Vinyl editor, I remember playing Forza Motorsport 2 about 8-9 years ago online and seeing people driving around with PORN vinyls on their cars. I never saw it in later Forza games that had a storefront to share the designs, SEGA probably just needs somebody policing however the Vinyls get shared to cut down on the crap. Assuming you actually CAN share the designs.

From the looks of the trailer, it looks like it is all in-game vinyls. No external sources.

By this I mean people will not be able to import their own custom vinyls. I think it's just a pre-set bunch of vinyls that you unlock and get to apply.

Modders will probably find a way to plug in their own custom ones, but that will be a very round-about method that isn't part of the game infrstructure that the common audience will ever utilize, so I don't think it's worth worrying about :)

Do you think it's Pre-set, as in Need For Speed Underground/Most Wanted? If so, it's a rubbish "editor" that's barely worth using, honestly. If you think Pre-set, as in, basic shapes and colours you can move around and apply at will, then people with A LOT of time can whip up just about anything they want;

I would recommend muting the audio on these examples, just skip around to get the jist of what they are doing -

These are showing off some nice tools, and where you can make a custom vinyl (from shapes and stuff) and apply at wherever you want, but even with a primitive editor, in games like Midnight Club LA or Need for speed Carbon, you can still make designs like these by applying the layers directly to the car itself, at least if the game supports enough layers.

....

On second thought, Team Sonic Racing's "Editor" DOES look like the NFS UG 1-2/MW system, you'll probably unlock more vinyls through whatever.

If the intent for this game was full on customization - I can't for the life of me see any reason not to prioritize the Avatar character. Thats the kind of synergy that can push a franchise.

It almost seems like a no-brainer to find a way for STR to skim your save data and import your Avatar character from forces. Not that we need to remind people about Forces, but if you were looking to sell more copies of both games there is nothing wrong with leveraging your CaC system to its fullest potential.

The vinyl section will more than likely just be stickers you unlock in game. Only pc will  probably get custom ones from modders.

Amy's car looks amazing in this game I hope they show what customizing can do for it soon.

Theoretically, this means that if TSR was to have DLC racers, those racers would also come with their own horn, paint kits, and perhaps stuff like exclusive vinyls. So not only would you get a new racer, you'd also get some new custom options for the base racers too.

I really like this, I don't think it quite negates the sting of just 15 racers, but it still helps make up for it regardless. Theoretically, this also means that if you really wanted to have an authentic team, you could have your 3 team members all using the same colours and vinyl. No idea if that would be possible if you are doing any of the team modes with just AI team mates though. I also hope that we will be able to save our custom options.

This is likely why it's hard to get extra racers for the game, I'm expecting a couple of DLCs but that's it, during launch or a month after it. It's hard because they need:

> To be a part of a whole extra team?

> Each character to have its own customization parts

> Each character needs its own dialogue recorded

> Each character has its own vehicle obviously and Special theme

You know, if they sold this game on the idea of customising your team and cars, the 15-string roster would have been much easier to swallow from the start. They also could have gone the ASRT route by including clone characters driving the same cars with different base stats and colour schemes.

Mods are gonna be wild. I'm getting the switch version because I want it physical, but I'll likely buy the PC one when it's on sale. I still think the game desperately needs more characters, due to 12 players being in every race. Crash has mostly the same amount but with only 8 players.

Did the other Sonic and Sega all stars racing games ever get mods?
I was looking for mods for Transformed once, but never found any.
Didn't help that the game had litteral "Mods" in-game as the diffrent configurations of your car, so it was a pain to search to begin with.
