I had no hype about this game but it's sounding more and more better.

But the eyes man... THE EYES!!! :D

Ahahaha way to link it with the S3&K story..

I guess I will patiently wait for more info

Characters could be reinvented, given greater purpose or function, and things could finally go from

THIS back to

I don't even say that from a nostalgiafag standpoint, just an overall simple vs. bizarre/ill-fitting standpoint.

I kind of agree, but I also don't see the need of bringing a what, five year old game like Shadow when they have abandoned that same crap and made THIS instead?

Side comment: OMG CHIP'S JAPANESE VOICE! HE'S A SHE! IT IS TERRIBLE!

I win Redmenace, I got a triple post and in one of them my post was repeated over 10 tines xD..

I laughed hard when I saw it.

404 again!

The green eyes are the reason no one liked Unleashed.

I liked Unleashed.

Just had a thought:

What numbered Sonic game is this? 4

What is Sonic 4's tentative release? July

What is the biggest holiday of July (at least in the USA)? July 4th

What are Sonic's primary colors? Red, white and blue

Hmmm....

Blue - Sega.

Red and White - Father Christmas.

Shoes with buckle - Michael Jackson.

True story.

I know I wouldn't be so anal about it if I wasn't european though. It just annoys me a little. Sonic was made with the WEST in mind mostly, and the WEST includes Europe. He was huge here. He was huge in the UK. He still is.

The most un-newsiest post yet:

So... a report on sites not handling traffic? The explanation of why Twitter is used to announce site status was hilarious.

F- uuu Tristan.

So comments now need to be accepted before posting at that place?

"Food for thought.

Maybe the reason why TSSZ doesn’t crash is because not many come here."

Also, I'm starting to really dig the model. Reminds me of Unleashed (the best 3D model IMO).

Is it actually the same model, minus some polys?

Looks a bit darker I suppose. :P

I think he got just a bit fatter too, but we need to see the models side by side in a similar position to confirm it.

So I got on the compy this morning, saw the trailer, and was super hyped! I, for one, am thrilled. It keeps Sonic's style from both the classic and newer generations!

My single complaint, like most feel, is Sonic's run. It needs more... pizzaz. Maybe the wheel 'o feet with the arms behind the back, via Brawl!

So, people complained about Sonic's green eyes? Owow, I know some people PREFER it, but I haven't heard someone say the game's ruined because of it since Mr. Draw-an-awesome-nastalgic-picture-then-ruin-it-with-a-rant.

Seriously people, it's not the end of the world. If the gameplay is good, then why does it matter what colour eye is. Let's sit back and wait for gameplay videos to start complaining!

Characters change, there's no arguing about it! Look at Mario for goodness sakes:

donkey_kong_arcade.jpg

Sure, you may prefer Sonic to have black eyes, but that doesn't change if the game's good or not.

It reminds me of when Banjo-Kazooie Nuts and Bolts was announced and Banjo had a square nose. And we ALL know the game wasn't amazing because of that square nose! :P

EDIT: Sorry, a bit late to the conversation... slow internet...

It looks exactly nothing like the old Sonic games. So many fans expected it to get the Mega Man 9 treatment to a 16-bit game, not they've done the opposite. Why does it have to be 3d? Why does it have to keep the new character designs? Are we supposed to forget how Sonic looked in the early 90s? I dreamed that we'd get an all new StH game as 16-bit, but it seems my dreams have been crushed forever.

I find it very funny that you are thus far disappointed with this game for inserting new elements while Nuclear is arguing about the exact opposite. I find it even funnier that the girl who flips her lid over feral hedgehogs with pliable arms is more excited about this some of the folks who publically trashed Sega for years for not making it.

Maybe it's because I had no real expectations? This is not something I've ever railed for, but instead it was a fleeting hypothetical, so to see it come along makes me jolly! At the very least, maybe it means I'm one step closer to getting my Hydrocity redux or something.

No solid judgements on the five second footage we have, although I must say I do like Sonic's running animation in the actual context of the game. It's boppy and innocent-- Probably more fitting than the ninja-esque gait we've seen in faster titles.

So all in all, I'm pretty giddy right now and eagerly awaiting new information. <3

Right, moving on from Tristan's jealousy at being pipped to the news stories this morning (clearly this is what it's all about, he's as transparent as an invisible wall)...

Good to hear boss battles are back in ze olde style. I'm quite excited to see what kind of level design this game will take - we can see the corkscrew (obviously) and there's one of those double-screen loop-de-loops from S3&K. Hoping they'll channel some other good shit from classic Sonic games too - Sega seem keen to revive the pinball bumper noise, so maybe there's a proper Casino/pinball esque level?

God, now I'm mixing zone themes in my head as potential levels. Can you imagine an underwater Zone with pinball bumpers? o_o

I think this is everyone's main problem; people have built up this magical, mystical version of Sonic 4 in there heads for over FIFTEEN years now. So when it comes out and not what you wanted, you can't help but be disappointed.

Not that this excuses idiocy like "ZOMG player model looks different!" and "Green eyes are fucking awful" or whatever, I'm just saying I understand where this mentality is coming from. You built yourself up for failure, and you had over a decade and a half to do it.

I never understood either the hype for Rush or for Dimps (or for Advance for that matter). They're good, solid, but there's something(s) missing.

Well I will say Dimps gets progressively better with each game, from Sonic Pocket Adventure to Sonic Rush Adventure. Which is why I'm confident a Sonic Rush 3 would be as good as the latter if not better. Sonic Team on the other hand baffles science and somehow got progressively worse with each console release since Sonic Adventure 2.

If I'm not mistaken, didn't Carnival Night Zone act 2 have some water bits in it?

More reason to be pissed that this got named "Sonic 4." Ultimately it's going to be extremely difficult for Sonic Team to live up to our expectations. And as I've said before I have doubts that it'll be remotely possible. But I'll reserve my anger for when it's confirmed that the game sucks, if it comes to that.

Yeah but that was more 'Pinball level with a bit of water'. I'm thinking 'Water with a bit of pinball'.

There's a difference in my head, I swear! XD

It did, and you could get air bubbles from bursting balloons. I'll take any sort of Casino level just as long as it's got flippers in it! Ooo, I want an awsome Eggman base.

If they were blind, I kind of forgive it. But it said it was going to be HD since the very beginning. It was never going to be Mega Man 9.

Just a minor pick. It's 2.5D, not 3D.

Wouldn't it be more apt then to put the blame on the fandom than to put it on Sega?

Everyone knows that the reason Sonic 2006 sucked so bad and was so glitchy was because of Sonic's green eyes.

SEGA, how dare you bring those eyes back again? I am disappoint. -_-

Maybe this is just me, but if I were forced to stare those two clips in the face as future directions for the franchise (I imagine you meant to point towards the cut scene, specifically) I would take the badly-written yet lighthearted ice cream exchange over the gritted-teeth, guns-a-blazing Michael Bay nightmare intro in a heartbeat.

Whatever the new "storyline" direction ends up being, here's hoping they learned from both of our examples.<br style="text-decoration: line-through;">

...Also I like how this thread has now officially started for real after well over 5000 posts of screaming into the unknown.

::EDIT:: Hahaaa I misread a bit. Pardon me. I've basically been up since 3:00a eastern time, after all.

I realize you were probably pointing towards that as an example of a GOOD change in tone and execution? Because I agree, if so.

I think it being episodic is a good thing, it allows for SEGA to make a lot of short games that all build up one big game, so if you don't have money for all of them you can buy one, and just wait until you have the money for the rest of them, also they'll probably eventually release all of them on one disk or something for $50-$60.

If this game was named pretty ANYTHING else, the response would probably be more positive, like "Sonic HD" or whatever. But oh no, this is Sonic FOUR. It has a legacy of some of the greatest games of all time and the world's worst, most fickle gaming fan base expectations to live up to.

So...yeah. I'm just gonna hope its good.

Indeed there was, I believe it was all in the 2nd Act. I want a lava level that takes place in the sky...you know..so it makes more sense...
