Sonic the Hedgehog 4

But what do you guys think about my motion controlls idea you think they are used to move the special stage to guide sonic tho the chaos emerald?

That would make the most sense, it could also be used for stage gimmicks. Flick the controller to activate pinball flippers ala Casino Night zone, etc. Just make all this waggle nonsense completely optional though.

This might be of use to no-one, and probably likely to cause a few more flamewars, but:

Work. It's what I do. :3

Excellent article Dread, it's easy on the eyes and not some over complicated big word mess. It appeals, and speaks the absolute truth. I'm hoping that it won't be months before more info is released on this massively anticipated title.

If Sonic Team went way back to their roots to make Sonic 4 which was sixteen years ago, then...

Who's to say that they won't do a SONIC ADVENTURE THREE IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

If you guys actually read my posts, add some really awesome voice to it in your heads. Like Bruce Campbell or something.

Anyway, I faintly see the Sonic 1 special stage you guys are talking about, which concerns me, because I hated those things with the burning white hot passion of a thousand suns. Hopefully it'll control better so that I can keep my blood pressure at appropriate levels, but I would've preferred something new altogether.

It makes the most sense that they would utilize the motion sensivity for special stages. Anything else would be pretty stupid.

The question I want to ask is whether or not there will be an amalgamut of classic Sonic bonus stages. Are we just going to get the classic tilting Sonic 1 labyrinth? Cause that one's boring as shit, even though tilting with motion controls could work. I want the 3D halfpipe back, and part of me still misses Blue Spheres.

I wouldn't be surprised. SA 2 ended up on Sonic's 10th' anniversary and his 20th' anniversary is one year away. He is the cash cow of Sega, so we know they're going to do something.

Yay Bruce Campbell!

Anyway, i was thinking that if the special stage in episode 1 is like sonic 1's, then maybe episode 2 will get sonic 2's and so on. And is the intro page on sonic4.com working for anyone cuse it wont come up for me.

Few days ago? The trailer was revealed yesterday.

Yeah, the motion control option would be good for the special stage for Wii, PS3 and iPhone.

Or it could be faith...someone in here wrote Bruce Campbell in the thread for the long-awaited Sonic 4. Maby...Bruce and Sam Raimi is discussing Evil Dead 4 in just this moment. Legendary!

Btw. Hail To The King was a pretty terrible game...i remember renting it, for PS1 back in the day, and i got so mad...The two on Ps2/Xbox are awesome though.

On topic. Has there been said how many episoed Sonic 4 will be released in? And how many Zones in each one?

There's probably no gaming character more loved than Sonic the Hedgehog (go on, search deep in your heart. I bet you'll find him sitting there, wagging his finger at you).

This is the best opener of any Sonic article I've ever read. :D

The trick to those is jumping all the time. If you try to navigate them regularly you're at the mercy of the rotation. I didn't understand them when I first got Sonic 1. Why does it say GOAL if I'm not supposed to go there? Is this some kind of joke! But I love the maze. The half-pipe has been done five or six times already.

Who's to say that they won't do a SONIC ADVENTURE THREE IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

I think Sonic '06 was going to be SA3, with the three hedgehogs theme. Guess they decided against it. Unleashed was also said to begin production as SA3. I'd like another in the series, but at the same time I don't want them to get tied down to that formula. Go forth, Sonic Team and do new things! (Free roaming 3D things)

So now it's a bitch because of the wing tip logo. Sonic 1 and 2 8-bit had the wing tip logo and they were crap. Jam had the wing tip and it's just a compilation. If you think it's insulting, just ignore it. Nothing that they do now will soil our classic memories as much as either Shadow's game or Next Gen did.

His fifiteen year old title, pompously called Sonic the Hedgehog is much more insulting to me. At least this one with a 4 slapped there doesn't imply it's better than then original or the true Sonic or a valid reimagination, just a sequel.

It's the whole game. "Sonic 4" having Noodlemouse, a bunch of recycled content, and some rather "eh" looking level design. Wow, great job.

That makes me wonder what his full speed running animation looks like. I'm personally hoping for wheel-o-feet, but we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, and it's not even Sonic's design that used to be inconsistent- the change in art style from Sonic 2 to Sonic 3 was drastic.

People have been overplaying the importance of the game's aesthetic. I love the classic Sonic model, and it's quite possibly my favorite, but seriously. I've been to the official forums and it's simply astonishing the backlash this game has gotten over such an insignificant matter. If my brain could throw up, it would.

Are you talking about the aesthetic or just the player character? Regardless, I think you are underplaying its significance. You're going to be looking at this stuff the whole time.

^ One of the reasons (admittedly not nearly the most major one, but one just the same) that I can't stand Sonic Rush 1 is the awful movement animations that Sonic has.

That's also the symbol for Ecosocialism, but that's not important.

This flower reminds me of cheese for some reason. Now the chao. The food. Like...yummy cheese slices arranged into a flower shape...

Both, but it's mostly the character model.

In any case, people have gone crazy over it for no real reason. I understand if they would have preferred a more traditional design, but as I've said the SEGA forums have gone apeshit. I don't mean to downplay aesthetics as they are part of what immerses you in the experience, but I've seen people who openly despise the game now even when they admittedly think that the gameplay looks good. That's not really happening here, luckily, but it's what I was talking about.

You're going to be looking at this stuff the whole time.
The case can be made that because you'll be looking at it the whole time, you'll adjust to it. People hated Wind Waker when they saw the first teaser for it, but now there are many who adore the style because it's grown on them. And keep in mind, we've only seen so much of the game.

So is anyone with me when I say that Sonic 4 should totally be compatible with Lockon? It'd be possible if all the lockon stuff affected the new game. In the very least, it should be able to lock on with Ep 2.

It would be cool if owning either the Ultimate Genesis Collection or the PSN/XBLA Sonic & Knuckles unlocked an alternate Knuckles Skin in Sonic 4. Not quite lock on, but same idea.

To be fair, the trailer was put together really shitily. SEGA should never use that company to make trailers ever again. Seriously, jerky sprites, poorly tweened pieces of art moving around the screen, only like 2 seconds of actual gameplay. Not a very good way of making a first impression.

I am still excited about the game, but I think the trailer turned a lot of people off. It made the game look like a cheaply made flash game. What company made the trailer again?

Seems like more of a teaser than a trailer to me.

There's going to be about six to seven zones per episode.

I agree, although many people have said that they don't like the episode format, I think SEGA did it like that to match the way Sonic 3 was released, which is kinda cool. Sorta a "virtual lockon" in a way, it can make for some interesting gameplay.

Also, if they release it in episodes, it means that every new one will be revamped and improved from the last, so that's something to look forward to!

Sonic 4: the first video game that's completely environmentally friendly! It's made from old, recycled ideas, and will decompose about as quickly as the hedgehog himself runs!
