What if Michael Bay directed the movie?

Yeah, I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but given the overwhelmingly negative reaction to movie Sonic's early design, it only makes me wonder how the whole thing would've turned out if Bay was in the director's chair.

The following could happen:

  • The movie would have been rated PG-13 instead of PG.
  • The movie would have nothing but explosions and action sequences throughout.
  • There would be over sexualization of some characters
  • The movie would have nothing but explosions and action sequences throughout.

Let's see...

-Sonic, rather than alien, would probably be some kind of genetically engineered weapon created by the army. Naturally, Bay would do this without having any idea of Project Shadow and as such, nothing pertaining to that would come up or tie into Sonic.

-Speaking of the army, they'd probably be very involved in he plot and probably at least somewhat crucial to the climax of things. They might or not be GUN. Probably not.

-Given that evidently Bay initially intended for Shredder to be 'Colonel Schraeder' in the TMNT films at one point, Robotnik'd probably be called "Dr. Robert Ottnik", and naturally would be connected to the 'Sonic Project' in some capacity. Rather than Jim Carey's hamminess I'd expect a more standard, subdued 'Evil Government Agent/Scientist' sort.

-Sonic himself would likely look like the initial live action version of Sonic, only a lot harsher and hardened looking, in reflection of his status as a government bioweapon and with a more 'edgy' personality. Not 'Shadow' edgy, but definitely a lot more harsh than you'd expect out of Sonic. Also, waaay more foulmouthed and sarcastic.

-If any of Sonic's other friends from the games are involved, they're also products of the same project that created him.

-There will be characters who share the names of individuals from the games and maybe even other parts of the franchise, but rather than being actual references to said characters, they're basically just slapped on at random. Shallow references, basically.

-Speaking of shallow, his Token Human Buddy would probably be pretty much Sam Witwicky 2.0.

The only guarantees I can make from a Bay-directed Sonic movie:

a. Rouge, if she's in the movie, would definitely be there strictly to make people thirst hard for her, with the camera working overtime to do so. Probably implied or accused by side characters of having "relations" with intel to get information, since she's a government spy and all.

b. The action would either be genuinely cool, or a bunch of CG nonsense where you can't make anything out.

c. Sonic would probably be a foul mouthed little shit that tells Eggman or someone else at one point "that's not what your mom told me last night!"

d. The first film would make a truckload of money to warrant at least another sequel, no matter how hard critics and fans tear it to shreds.

Hm.

In other words, he would be Chris Thorndyke played by Shia LaBeouf.

An addendum to that- Rouge probably wouldn't be a bat either, but converted to a human for the purposes of doing this. At best she'd probably have white hair and a few bat themed gadgets to reference she was originally a bat. Otherwise, yeah, she's probably the primary reason this film'd be PG-13 that didn't involve violence or Sonic dropping F-bombs.

Also she might or might not work directly for Robotnik as his primary henchwoman. Wouldn't be Bay if SOMETHING about her characterization wasn't horribly askew!

He would also probably go like "GIVE ME YOUR FACE!" in one scene where he's ripping off the face off a mechanical mook.

Adding to this, Rouge is also played by Megan Fox.

And the sequel will have some dumb excuse to put her in various ridiculous outfits, ala TMNT OOTS:

Also there's a line about how ridiculous a talking hedgehog is, and Tails wears glasses and ridiculous amounts of tech all around him.

Knuckles would 100% have been an offensive Jamaican stereotype constantly talking about jerked chicken. The Tornado would be a helicopter so it could slowly rise above sunsets. It'd be like 98% Military recruitment ad and 2% Sonic movie.
