Potential reinterpretations of the Sonic universe in the Movie verse.

I've been theorizing that Sonic 2 might end with Knuckles deciding to keep the Chaos Emerald with him so Robotnik can't take it, becoming it's guardian. Maybe he could even travel the world with it similar to how he explored in Sonic X season 1, so that the emerald is never an easy target.

That is a possibility, if the Master Emerald isn't introduced in the sequel.  It might make things much easier for the audience if Knuckles was the guardian of all seven chaos emeralds instead of just the master emerald since you would have to explain to the movie audience about why there's a big emerald controlling the seven chaos emeralds and the history behind that.
