What Stages Would You Want In A Sonic Generations Enhanced Re-Release?

Ignoring Sonic Colours Ultimate's slightly botched attempt at re-releasing an old favourite, if SEGA and Sonic Team decided to make an enhanced version of Sonic Generations, with new music, bosses, stages (and it actually functioned as intended without rampant glitches) what would you want to see? Personally, I'd like to see Space Gadget from Shadow The Hedgehog. It takes place on the Space Colony ARK, which made a few appearances in different levels from SA2 and Shadow, I think the music/level gimmicks could take inspiration from all of them. Also, the Ark is definitely a significant enough set-piece in Sonic history to have it's own level, the scenery already appears in Shadow's boss fight, so why not expand on it and make it it's own level? I'd also like a few more cutscenes to flesh out the baron story, maybe Sonic and Tails could reminisce on EVERY stage instead of just the first two.

What do you think?

I don't want an enhanced Generations and I don't want to see any old stages ever again.

Generations is, hilariously and scarily, ten years old already. Although it's not one of my personal favourite Sonic games, a simple port and remaster of it in the next few years seems almost inevitable to plug the gap between new games. Ten years is a long time aftertall If there are people that grew up with Colours feeling nostalgic for it as one of their first Sonic games, then there are people that grew up with Generations who feel the same way. And there will be ton of people who missed out on Generations the first time around, including Wii owners that wouldn't have had access to it. It's kind of a reverse situation to what happened with Colours originally.

Judging by the low quality effort that was Colours Ultimate, I really don't know what to expect from a hypothetical Generations Ultimate. The need to completely rebuild the game on a new engine should be gone, as the original game was built with portability in mind and is on three platforms already. SEGA or a third party should be able to get it running on newer consoles with enhanced visuals without much faff.

In terms of extras though? I'm really not sure. Extra levels would be a delight, but that's a long shot. It would be really novel the inclusion of "future" levels in there. Something from Mania would be a delight. Unfortunately though, there's really very little worth adding from any other games post-Generations. Lost World was all GHZ and NSMB Clones, Forces recycled old levels and assets shamelessly and S4 is infamous for its rehashed.

Rival Rush in SCU mode is nothing more than a ghost time trial, and Generations already has both those and a few more creative races as well. That's definitely not a feature I'd want to see returning. Maybe take a leaf out of Forces' book though and include a few alternate skins like Shadow.

Some additional content for each extant era to add Big, Omega, and Jet to the hub world; Wacky Workbench, Sky Troops, and Casino Street. Plus the Future/Meta Era as a bonus with Sky Road, Studiopolis, and Luminous Jungle. And throw in the levels from the 3DS version too.

If they'd make new content for a Sonic Generations ultimate, I wonder if Sonic Boom gets included.
If they're too embarresed about Sonic Boom while 06 did get proper representation, that'd be saying something.

I'd like a Handheld era included, a GameGear, Gameboy advance and Rush level.
(Sunset Park, Egg Rocket and Pirate city zones I'd pick)

If they made a Sonic Generations+ they should probably just add the main games from post generations. Then it'll be a nice, complete trip through Sonic's history that'll hold up for a while. Add  Mania or Rangers and that'll be a nice new "era" for players to explore.

I'm not sure what stages they should pick. Both games have iconic stages but we're talking about Windy Hill and Park Avenue, two stages that are basically already in the game with GHZ and Crisis CIty. I guess you could lean into Lost World's absurdity and go with something like Sugar Lane, and Forces gives you a new opportunity to end the game on the Death Egg if you want to be corny.

I'd vouch for Silent Forest and Metropolitan Highway. They stand out fairly well (and have pretty good music.) Meanwhile, Mania would rep with Studiopolis, of course.

smh at all you people picking city levels.

My picks would be Frozen Factory, Press Garden and Null Space. Give us the full level that Sonic Team were too busy animating Classic Sonic's belly button to make. And if that's too outside their realm of imagination, maybe Luminous Forest. Maybe the whole level could be like the first 20 seconds this time.

I just want the Advance games to get some representation, I'd be fine with anything, but if I have to choose, it would be Music Plant (Hot Crater*, Ice Paradise and Techno Base are fine too, every other zone I fear it wouldn't be unique enough, even if I think Chaos Angel would be great; you can switch Music Plant with Toy kingdom or Techno Base with Cyber Track but I would prefer the original ones to be given the priority).

Jungle Zone from Sonic 1 8bit would also be appreciated.

*You can twist it a bit and call it Underground Zone from Sonic 2 8 bit as well, the setting is very similar, including the transition from inside/outside the volcano.

EDIT: From other games levels that I would like to see revamped are: Labyrinth from Sonic 1, Windy Valley from Sonic Adventure (Sky Canyion from Advance 2 can work too but as I said before, Windy Valley is the original one), Pumpkin Hill from Sonic Adventure 2, and maybe a full Casino type level done right.

Levitated Ruin from Sonic and the Secret Rings would be amazing to see in modern graphics. An ancient city on a giant flying manta ray.

Haunted Ship from Sonic Rush Adventure, if only for a new version of the amazing music from the level.

Landslide Limbo from SegaSonic the Hedgehog would be fun to see. Especially if they have a few Looney Tunes style traps or shortcuts.

For zones from classic games, I would LOVE to see Mystic Cave reimagined in 3d. We don't have many cave zones in Sonic games (and especially not in boost games), so MC could be a fun way to see what a cave zone looks like in a boost setting. And since Generations doesn't have any "end game" stages, I think something like Metropolis Zone would be fun to see. Sonic 2 just has a lot of zones to work with that I wish they'd bring back. Imagine a Hill Top Zone with a focus on verticality.

As for 3d zone returns, I'd like to see them grab Mystic Jungle from forces and make it an actual good boost stage. It can also serve as the game's casino level if need be.

I think the utter pipe dream would be for them to add a stage to each existing era to fill some gaps:

Sonic 1 - Green Hill
Sonic 2 - Chemical Plant
Sonic 3 - Ice Cap (or Hydrocity if music issues are gonna be a lil' bitch as usual)
Sonic & Knuckles - Sky Sanctuary

Sonic Adventure - Speed Highway
Sonic Adventure 2 - City Escape
Sonic Heroes - Seaside Hill
Shadow the Hedgehog - Black Comet (or The ARK if they wanna re-use some assets from the Shadow boss fight

Sonic 2006 - Crisis City
Sonic Unleashed - Rooftop Run
Sonic Colours - Planet Wisp
Sonic 4 - Sky Fortress

Sonic Lost World - Tropical Coast/Lava Mountain (either way it's the underwater tunnel environment we want)
Sonic Mania - Studiopolis
Sonic Forces - Sunset Heights (or Egg Gate for stage variety)
Sonic Frontiers/Rangers - ?????? (because I doubt a Generations remake would come so soon after Colours Ultimate lol)

And of course, at least two boss fights for the "post-modern" segment. Without knowing what Frontiers has, I'd go for some kind of fun marathon battle for both fights - all of the Hard-Boiled Heavies for Classic Sonic to give him another fight, and all of The Deadly Six for Modern Sonic. Allocate them to "Rival Battle" and "Boss Battle" for the era as you see fit lol.  Not having Eggman involved would mean no modifications required for the existing story cut-scenes.

Of course, since the above would basically be making almost an entire new game's of content... it's a total pipe dream lol.

For the more reasonable idea of just adding a 3 stage post-modern era, I'd go for:

Sonic 4 - Sky Fortress
Sonic Mania - Studiopolis
Sonic Forces - Sunset Heights or Egg Gate
(really can't decide coz I love both lol)
With the same Mania/Lost World boss fights as described above

For whatever reason, Lost World feels like more of an "oddball main release" game to me than Sonic 4 does, much as Sonic CD does in the classic era, so I'd rather 4 gets the stage rep and Lost World gets covered by a boss only in the same way.

Sonic 1-starlight (hell the catapults are already in the game!)

sonic 2-no idea.  Chemical plant was the fun stage

sonic 3-launch base

sonic cd-stardust speedway

sa1-final egg

sa2-cannon’s core

heroes-bullet station (or egg fleet/final fortress)

06-aquatic base (with goofy “balance on the ball” stuff removed)

unleashed-windmill isle

colors-starlight carnival

Forces-egg gate I guess

No idea what you could do for bosses.  Besides egg golem or something

Can you discuss what systems will be represented on the 3DS version such as Game Gear?

Game Gear? (Laughter) No. For the 3DS we wanted to go with systems of more recent memory. So we are more focused on levels from the GBA and DS.

Imagine my disappointment when they ditched not only the GG era but also skimped out on including any Advance levels in the end. I get that Dimps were dealing with new hardware under a brief time frame but it still blows that out of a paltry 7 zones, 2 of them were relegated to Emerald Coast and Radical Highway, and they weren't that stellar, either. At least we got a nice Classic remix of the latter.

Anyway, here's Green Hill Zone from Sonic 1 again.

Wanting to focus on systems of recent memory is.. a strange thing to say about a game entirely about referencing things from Sonic's past. I guess he meant the handheld systems that children at the time would remember. And then they ended up not even doing that.

I was actually thinking about this the other day but there’s a lot of stages they could use it’d be better to just make a full blown Generations 2. It comes down to which ones would be the most interesting turned 3D.

Sonic 1 - Labyrinth

Sonic 2 - Mystic Cave (mentioned already) or Sky Chase.

Sonic 3 - Ice Cap

S&K - Flying Battery

3D Blast - I’ve never seen this suggested - Maybe Spring Stadium. Could have Modern Sonic carry Flickies but not in an isometric format. Just normal linear stage where they follow you to the end.

Some Game Gear stages but I don’t really remember them off the top of my head.

1 hidden stage based on Sonic Xtreme.

There’s enough material you could make a Generations 3.

This might get a few laughs. As unlockables (possibly via red rings), some of the "Lost Levels" from over the years.

S2: Genocide City or Wood Zone.

Heroes: The ice level that was shown in Generations' art section.

CD: R2

I decided not to put Desert Dazzle, as it became Mirage Saloon in Mania.

Oh I forgot I wanted to suggest Sonic Spinball.

Any from that would be really cool reimagined into a 3D linear stage. Toxic Caves would most likely being the first stage. I’m guessing a lot of people never got past it or died afterwards too. Haha.

Seriously though Spinball would be so unique to include.

I wanna see Windy Hill from Sonic Lost World in the Generations Remaster because I wanted Sonic to boost in Windy Hill Zone and We have already seen Him Run and Spindash, I think it might be remade into a Boost Level for Modern Sonic and the 2D/Spindash Level for Classic Sonic. The Music for the Modern Sonic Version of Windy Hill should be a Rock Remix, and the Classic Sonic Version of Windy Hill should be the Original Version, Seriously, Sonic Lost World and Forces Stages (and don't forget to mention some Sonic Frontier Stages) should be added to Sonic Generations the Remaster after Planet Wisp.

I would probably want Night Palace from Secret Rings

image.jpeg.8067bdbfa663d263e05c2ca3d3ca96db.jpeg

that game had some very cool and surreal levels

It would be nice to play a version of it that doesn't control like ass

Ice Cap Zone. Full stop. It’s criminal it didn’t make the cut for any of the original versions. Also Studiopolis, Silent Forest, and maybe Metropolitan Highway.
