Sonic X: How did Tails even build the Blue Typhoon?

Sonic X Series 2: Blue Typhoon by DarkNoise-Studio on DeviantArt

Something that always bugged me with the final season of Sonic X was Tails' Blue Typhoon, and how its glossed over that he built it. How does he go from being an kid who just tinkers with machinery; to building a freaking SPACESHIP? Not just any spaceship, but one that can travel light speeds, has an arsenal of weapons, starfighters, etc. etc.

It all feels far-fetched and ridiculous, even if one argues "he's a genius." Where did he get the resources? How could he build such a massive ship by himself? He doesn't have an army of robots building stuff for him that Eggman likely does. Even with the X Tornado he needed Chuck's help to make it. (not to mention the Hyper Tornado, also built by Chuck.)

Seriously, if Tails can just casually build a spacecraft designed for intergalactic warfare, what's Sonic really good for? (besides plot armor)

  • The title was changed to Sonic X: How did Tails build the Blue Typhoon?

In Sonic X, Tails befriended and found a mentor in Chuck, who himself was an experienced scientific genius who was able to (with Tails's help) build a functioning dimensional portal to Sonic's world.

It stands to reason that Tails could have learned a lot from Chuck while in his world, developing his already exceptional technical skills over the months he was there.

He was the ammo.

The Blue Typhoon literally shot Sonic at enemies like a cannon, amplifying his speed and power and essentially enabling him to do a kind of "super spin attack" into the various Metarex and battleships the crew came across. Conventional ammunition or laser beams wouldn't have been as effective as just launching Sonic himself at everyone, presumably.

How does Tails build anything? He's literally 8.

I guess there should be a limit to be what he can otherwise do, because then it becomes a matter of "why doesn't he just become a better Eggman", because at that point he's just blatantly overpowered. It's like that one page of Sonic Eggs, where Sonic complains about Tails messing with the tornado too much has kinda robbed the whole thing of its charm, by turning it into a Macross mecha.

I'd be giving the screenwriters too much credit if I assume Tails was able to mod the Tornado not only because of granpa Chuck, but also Chris family is filthy rich and not doubt they could afford all of the airframe and required equipment to revamp that plane.

In regards of the blue typhoon, a safe assumption is that Tails restored offscreen some eggman's discarded spacecraft. But the writers surely went with tails build the entire spaceship and its dock from scratch, since for the dumb writer, a STEM genius is proficient on every related skill and discipline, and build complex contraptions shit out of thin air or with a couple of metal scraps.

As Rick and Morty says, "the answer is don't think about it."

Sonic X is fully of lazy, far-fetched stuff like Tails building a spaceship. Just chalk it up to the show having bad writers.

That's true, but even then the cannon became an extent of Sonic's plot-defying spin dash; being the answer to every problem the team can't solve/defeat.

Definitely agree on that. Plus there's the whole "nature vs machines" deal the classic games evoked; with Sonic and friends being a sort of rag-tag group against Eggman's high tech weaponry.
