Also, if the movie did get delayed, it probably wouldn't be best to put it in the December slot since Star Wars and Avatar are supposedly going to come to theaters during that month.  Although, I'm not sure if there is going to be a Star Wars film or an Avatar film releasing in 2022.

I guess I'm one of the few people who strongly dislikes the Sonic movie, it just wasn't made for me sadly.

Just felt like The Smurfs but with Sonic, which is exactly what I expected but I still disliked it anyway. Kinda not looking forward to the sequel, this is a pillar of Sonic that, just like Sonic Boom, I will have to ignore. Or at least try to.

So apparently #Crush40forSonic2 got over 3000 tweets! If we keep this up, Jeff Fowler might listen to us and do something amazing for the fans again! If we can fix Sonic's look, we can upgrade the music too! If I live to hear Crush 40 in the movie in theaters, I will weep.

Sign me up!  I wonder if they do succeed in getting their music in the sequel, will they write a new song for the movie or replay one of their older songs from the franchise?  Be interesting to see what kind of music they have for the sequel if they succeed in their goals.

Wow!  Many people want to do some music for the sequel!  It's great that the movie got this much love, especially from the original musicians of the older games!

I met Jim Carrey years ago, he’s a really cool guy and always funny. I was first thrilled for the fans that he was part of the film. I thought he was awesome. I was of course disappointed in the music as I felt that Crush 40 plays a massive part in the history and life of some very important Sonic games! I did love seeing the little cameo but it wasn’t enough… I am hopeful that we make something happen for Sonic 2. The fans are already rallying for this. I’m sure the movie studio peeps will reach out this time… If not, we’ll ban the movie! Hahaha… no, just kidding on that!

I suspect the story will be Sonic 2 (SEGA) feat. Tails, and they will incoperate Knuckles as the enemy (Archie Comics and Sonic 3 SEGA) who turns into our lovable Knux when he learns Eggman is a liar. We see Eggman (Carrey) at the end of Sonic the Movie  in a Mushroom Zone reminiscent of the zones in Sonic & Knuckles: 

In a post credit scene, Amy will appear crying, “Sonic! Sonic!” and Metal Sonic will apear and carry her off as he did in Sonic CD: 

This will lead to Sonic 3 Movie, where Sonic battles Mecha/ Metal Sonic and you discover Robotnik made Mecha from a hair of Sonic in his lab.

If they decided to introduce Knuckles in the sequel instead of Metal Sonic or someone else, I can see the sequel going in this direction and I do hope that they introduce Amy Rose sometime in the movies, although I have a feeling that they are going to do something different with her character in the film franchise, just like they did with Sonic.

I agree about Amy. Damsels in distress arn’t vogue anymore, so I suspect she’ll be her later hammering heroine self. 

I really hope we get to see Knux, and that he does his signature cackle/chuckle.

I have a feeling that they are going to make Knuckles a bit more serious in these films, especially since it was the Echidnas who chased Sonic off of his planet and they might introduce the backstory of how the Echidna civilization was killed off by Chaos much earlier in this franchise.

I think you are probably righf. At the beginning of Sonic the Movie, you see Echidnas attacking Sonic before he uses the warp ring.

That would set up nicely why Knuckles and his forefathers had to become Guardians of Floating Island, to keep the master emerald from Chaos. Perhaps Chaos could be the greater villian in Sonic 4: The Movie (Sonic 3 being Mecha Sonic).

This is probably a bit unrelated, but there were some news of the Sonic movie sequel producer extending his deal with Paramount.:

Neal Moritz and his Original Film production company have extended their multiyear, first-look agreement with Paramount Pictures through to Dec. 31, 2023.

The extension follows Moritz producing Sonic the Hedgehog for Paramount and then returning to produce the sequel.

The new deal also follows Paramount's first-look with Moritz originating on Jan. 1, 2019, after Moritz and his production banner left their longtime deal with Sony Pictures.

I think we are likely to see the main 4 (Sonic,Tails, Amy, and Knuckles) together. I think Metal Sonic could be in this.  I know it's very unlikely, I will be surprised if they put characters like Shadow and Rouge in it.

Also, do you think there will be some random new human main characters in the sequel? I had a feeling they might cast some guy as Tails's human companion? I don't know.

Also, you know, since the sequel will probably likely to be inspired and based on Sonic 2, I could see part of the movie set in Las Vegas which Casino Night Zone was inspired of. You know, just like part of the Sonic movie taking place in San Francisco which City Escape was inspired of:

I still think it will be too much for the sequel if they introduced all four of the main characters.  I can see Knuckles and Amy showing up in the third movie, if it gets made and I definitely think that Metal Sonic will be introduced in the sequel.  As for a random human companion for Tails, if they really want to use Tom Holland in the sequel, he could be cast as Tails' human friend, which would be interesting.

As for what zones will be introduced in the sequel, I can see them introducing Chemical Plant Zone in the sequel since that showed up in Sonic 2.

I really don’t think they will put that many characters in the sequel. It’s extremely natural for us as long time fans of the franchise to think/hope they will since we’re already well familiar with them and want to see them on the big screen. But the movie writers and producers are mainly writing these movies for new fans of the first film, with additional small easter eggs here and there in the background for the fandom. Cramming too many characters into the sequel will be too much at once and dilute everyone’s screen time, especially if they wanna lean just as much into Tom, Maddie, potentially feature more of Longclaw which people are also hoping for, etc. Other than Tails I think they will only add 1-2 additional characters from the franchise to prevent it from becoming too crowded too quickly and one of those roles is all but guaranteed going to be Knuckles in a small/cameo role. The other role, Metal Sonic has the most chance, but I want them to do all these charactets justice and introduce them properly and give them the introduction and development time they each deserve and they’re not going to get that if too many get thrown in at once as well as keeping the existing and movie-exclusive human characters. With adding too many characters at once there is also the sudden abundance of roles  that need 3D models and voice actors which will all add to the budget costs. By all means hope, but I think realistically some of those hopes might not come to fruition until any 3rd or 4th film.

Yeah, I agree with what you guys are saying. I don't expect that much new characters in the sequel. We could see just 1 or 2 new main characters. Any other extra new characters will just be minor characters. Maybe we will see some Badniks from the games in the movie like this one.:

I’d really love to see some more of the familiar badniks in the sequel  They’d be much easier to model and animate than characters as they’d have no fur to render or emotions/expressions to show, so they’d hopefully be able to bring a few designs in for not so much budget compared to characters. Whether or not Jim Carrey’s Eggman will develop to the point of creating more ‘extreme’ (I guess that’s the right word?) robot designs in the sequel remains to be seen but if not outright badniks then I hope he’ll start to delve into more eccentric designs for his robots. 
 

(Also wondering if maybe Agent Stone either abandons or turns against him in future movie plots, thus cementing Orbot’s existance, since Jim Carrey’s Eggman has already sowed the seeds by saying he prefers robots to humans as they ‘do what they’re told to do’)

That would be great if they do introduce more badniks!  I hope they introduce badniks like the wasps and the crab like bots!
