The Quintessential Sonic Fan Content Thread

Sonic has an inseparable relationship with fan content, so I feel that a discussion of the best, important, or most representative content within the fanbase would be valuable.

Some of my picks in no particular order

Sonic Robo Blast 2 (https://www.srb2.org/)- A 3d fangame that has had multiple mods and updates that have kept its relevancy since its inception in 1998. Many people cite this to be a prime example of fans outdoing Sega.

Ghosts of the Future (https://www.deviantart.com/evanstanley/art/Ghosts-of-the-Future-01-65734808) Sonic fan comic created by current IDW artist Evan Stanley. I do not want to say too much about it as I do not want to spoil it. This fan comic is likely a big part of why she is now working at IDW, and after reading it I can see why.  TW: some disturbing violence

Sonic the Comic Online, Archie Sonic Online, and Sea3on (http://www.stconline.co.uk/, http://archiesoniconline.com/, and http://www.sonicsatam.com/sea3on/) - fan continuations of old sonic properties that demonstrate the fanbase's tendencies to put a lot of effort into their work and their dedication to certain subsets of the franchise.

Sonic: Nazo Unleashed (

Spoiler

)- An animation that many people cite when discussing quality Sonic fan content. Likely caused Nazo to be popular within the fanbase.

Tails Gets Trolled (http://www.tailsgetstrolled.org/)- Popular webcomic that primarily features Sonic characters. Enjoyed for its ironic value, the comic has spawned many memes. The comic has a surprisingly in depth story and dynamic action scenes that keep people reading beyond its initial ironic value. This comic to outsiders likely reflects their perceptions of the Sonic fanbase. Has some mild disturbing content.

Sonichu (not linking it)- A webcomic made by the infamous Chris Chan. An offensive and concerning piece of media that received a large amount of scorn of the internet. Despite most of the fanbase disowning it, it is almost always mentioned when criticizing the fanbase as many people perceive it as reflective of some the fanbase's negative behaviors. As much as I hate including it, It is unfortunately too important to not recognize its influence. Search at your own risk.

Christian Whitehead's fangames (http://info.sonicretro.org/The_Taxman) : I unfortunately do not know about these as much as I should, but I recognize that they allowed him to be one of the best known Sonic developers, so I am going to argue that they fit due to their importance.

Other pieces of media that I feel are worth mentioning but don't quite enter the realm of "Quintessential":

Ogilvie (not linking this one either) -A strange feature length audio drama that dives into the weirder aspects of the Sonic fanbases with no holds barred. Usually I would just chalk it up another weird piece of fan content, but the depth and quality of it is so surprising that it is worth mentioning. Search at your own risk, it has quite a bit of disturbing content.

Tamers12345 (not linking just to be safe) - A YouTube user that produces Sonic Underground animations, one of which is the length of a feature film. Some people debate whether he is trolling or genuine with his content, as the animations often seem to be self-aware and the Tamers' persona can be a bit extra. Despite some artistic and writing irregularities, the animations are surprisingly consistent approaching what many consider to be "quality" but they do not quite get there. The content is also quite questionable, but not quite disturbing unlike Sonichu or Olgilvie. If you enjoyed Sonichu ironically before Chris Chan's falling out, I highly recommend Tamers. Tamers' content reflects the fanbase's weirder side while demonstrating artistic consistency and drive found within the fanbase.

Super Mario Bros. Z (

Spoiler

)- Despite the name, it is quite Sonic-centric. It is a quality web animation series that is unfortunately unfinished. The creator has been out creating new content though.

So what do y'all think are the most Quintessential examples of Sonic fan content? Feel free to contest or discuss any of my picks as well. I really just wanted to discuss and discover Sonic fan content in a general fashion. Memes like Ugandan Knuckles and Sanic are also fair game as well, though I did not include them as to me they are not substantial media, just ideas that spread through meme culture and the fanbase.
