Sonic Frontiers Leaks & Spoilers Thread - PLEASE READ OP

Sean

Recommended Posts

So a lot of information about Frontiers has been leaking that Sega for one reason or another has decided not to officially reveal yet. So I'm going to ask everyone to please contain discussion regarding those aspects in this thread, and EXCLUSIVELY in this thread. That means from this point forward any outside post or status update or reply mentioning these things will likely be deleted on sight at the staff's discretion and without warning.

btw Zippo discussion is not allowed thanks

Just to get some clarification, do you want us to use spoiler tags in this thread or is that just optional? Wanna make sure just in case.

Nah you don't have to bother with spoiler tags in this topic. That's why I made this so that people don't have to worry about whether to hide what they say or not, while respecting others who may wish to not have this information revealed to them beforehand.

Alrighty then 👌

With that out of the way...

Boy I'm really bothered by the linear stages we've seen. I'd prefer if they were fully original and didn't appear to reuse locations we've seen in the past, but I guess that's too much yo ask...

I was going to say this on the other thread, but a spoiler is only a spoiler when it's a surprise, Green Hill doesn't apply xD We as fans know it's going to be there, it's like a law of physics.

We have seen a combined total of roughly 3 seconds of super blurry footage.

If we see an entire cyberspace stage that is super linear then I will shut up but so far this is not enough to base the level design off of.

I'm kinda surprised you aren't assuming levels that are mean't to be traditional boost levels aren't gonna super linear tbh. Honestly a loooot of the boost games' level designs are super linear, just disguised by cool things happening (like the giant chomper in Modern Green Hill)

Problem with Sonic team is that we now have varying degrees of what we consider linearity. Forces level of linearity vs late Generations linearity is a fairly sizeable difference.

Basically every single Sonic game since Unleashed was linear with regular Sonic, so I don't know what you're referring to here when you say "linear". Linear could just mean the status quo with Boost Sonic at this point, or it could mean you're just literally going in a straight line without having to do anything like in Sonic Forces.

1-2 seconds of footage from 2 different levels is just not enough to determine what we're working with. We know it's boost Sonic, we've known that for a while. The question is whether or not the quality of the 3D level design will be on par with levels like Seaside Hill from Sonic Generations or Casino Forest from Sonic Forces.

Wait isn't Casino Forest a Classic Sonic level and not a Modern one?

Unless it was renamed for the Modern version (been a while since I played), it still takes place in the same general area.

Oh my bad I think it's called Mystic Jungle. But my point still is the same.

I'm normally all about avoiding spoilers and leaks, but Frontiers has been so light on officially released content and SEGA are doing such a backwards job of marketing the bloody game that it's completely slipped my mind that the leaks of every kind are, in fact, potential spoilers.

lol

I did see the leak shared by Dakii last year (where the Frontiers name first showed up, I believe) and that mentioned a Green Hill-like stage and a factory stage. So on some level I was expecting this to pan out.

Would have preferred the game to be 100% open-world zone, but SEGA insist on keep giving us linear boost stages...sigh. Just hope the ones in Frontiers aren't as mind-numbingly boring and automated as in Forces. Hopefully they can put a new spin on them, make them interesting, challenging.

Yeah, this looks more like a forest or even reminds me of Wood Zone than Green Hill

On what was the then-recent topic of "was what we saw actually Green Hill?"...

Quote

(calling it Green Hill 3.0 [...] Not buying that it is Green Hill flat out unless Sega tell us otherwise)

Quote

Is that Zone really Green Hill? Not seen any confirmation, and wouldn't be surprised if it was another Windy Hill situation [...]

Quote

Well... it could still not be Green Hill, just a similar-looking mashup... and the graphics could be not finished yet...

Are these quotes that were made today about Sonic Frontiers, or quotes made five years ago about Sonic Forces?

Spoiler

All from Forces, lol.

If Sega is just going to reuse assets, I would love if they just mish-mashed it all up together since Frontiers' spiel seems to be it's all a big simulation that's being edited from some powerful Force. I would enjoy playing a stage that was half Green Hill zone and half Planet Wisp.

They could call it... Planet Hill zone.

Well, I would say she is definitely counting her chickens before they hatch here if you know what I mean.

The rectangular background elements and big crystal rocks remind me more of the Past and Present versions of Quartz Quadrant than Green Hill, tbh.

The image is quite blurry but I can definitely see some form of checkerboard pattern. There's multiple shades of browns.

I have to wonder how much Green Hill even matters when I see people basically saying it'll be okay as long as it's called something different, or doesn't have the same exact checkerboards.

Like, I enjoy Green Hill in Generations and Mania. I didn't particularly like it in Forces, but it was more different in that game than the others, being a dried-out husk of itself, and one of the acts was mostly in a factory anyway. If we're looking for a departure from standard tropical island fare, then that game was just wearing the iconography while doing something almost completely unrelated, but without it I don't think nearly so many people would be as upset with the zone as they are these days. This Frontiers level...well, to be honest I can't fathom a fucking thing about it. There's green. There's those wood panels. That's all I got. Maybe it's green hill, maybe it's something else, it's a tropical island either way, but it's weird that we apparently only seem to be tired of this specific tropical island.

New stuff!

A closer look at the HUD, especially the cross design. One icon looks like a shield, another possibly a sword? One is just a circle, and the left one might be Sonic's shoe. I am not sure what to make of this, since it'd be weird to put individual skills like blocking or attacks on the d-pad.

A new miniboss! Can't see what it's called, but it flings projectiles and attempts some kind of ground-stomp move.

Oh, and someone else pointed this out, from the same footage as the HUD:

The dash panel only seems to take the speedometer up to about 1/2 of its top speed.

There's also a speedometer in the far right corner, which is quite an interesting feature! Wonder if there's a way to gain some pretty sick speeds?
