Fan Art Challenge

Custom Badniks

Here's a fun one; we're not doing a theme/prompt this week. This time around, the challenge is creatively specific: design a custom badnik and post it in this topic!

Anything goes with this one - you can either create a brand new enemy, or you can take an existing robot and mod it up to make it even more dangerous and menacing for Sonic to overcome. As long as you're able to give us a little information/description of your creation, it will all count!

You have until the end of the month to finish this off. Good arting!

Crawl Knight: Eggman modified the basic Crawl, giving it heavier armor that has made it nearly indestructible. The added weight has rendered Crawl Knight entirely immobile aside from its arms, so Eggman has positioned them in strategic choke points to shepherd Sonic away from areas he wants protected, and onto more dangerous paths. Additionally, Eggman has taken advantage of the added stability the additional weight has given the Badnik by attaching a heavy ball and chain to its claw. This has extended its reach as well as its power, further discouraging Sonic from taking any paths that are guarded by this stalwart foe.

Presenting....The Motor Bug GP.

Custom built for outright speed, manuverability and endurance, this badnink has been speed trapped at a whopping 955mph! Custom pirelli tyres, bespoke bremo brake discs, 6 extra exhaust ports and a rear downforce wing are but some of the visual updates to this badnik, all designed to make sure this bad boy can keep up with pesky blue hedgehogs!

Under the bonnet we have x6 turbo supercharger engines, which are a hybrid of both solar power and flicky power. These engines run off a brand new, super formula oil developed by Dr Eggman himself called E.G.G Oil which keeps all parts working at peak efficency.

Finishing off the upgrades we have a rear oil slick despenser, missile projected removale dart arms, and enhanced vision sensors which can operate in reality, infinate fake reality, and offers a grounding effect in 360 degree rotating special stages.

Coming in our new eggman industries / E.G.G Oil livery this badnik can be deployed to any zone with haste or entered in to any race Dodon Pa wishes to hold.

If your interested in buying one of our new models, please visit your local eggman industries dealership where we always have a range of offers on all badniks, egg-o-matics and death egg space stations

May I present...The Egg Chao!

946054382_EggChaoFINAL.thumb.png.7b862b6606fc41175326257484504e98.png

Following his defeat at the hands of Sonic and friends in Sonic Advance 2, Eggman took particular notice at how strong Cheese was, despite being an ordinary Chao. While they had a connection with Chaos, Eggman still never expected the little guys to have such an hidden strength within them. That made them perfect for his new line of Badniks.

Having his own personal experience with Chao and the Chao Garden in Sonic Adventure 2, Eggman knows how easy it is to affect and corrupt a newborn Chao into a Dark variant, but the issue remains that they're too chaotic to allow Eggman full control, and on top of that, given how loyal Cheese was to so mercilessly attack Eggman's mechs on Cream's orders, Eggman very much wanted to weaponise that as a form of payback.

So, launching an assault on one of the many Chao Gardens throughout the world, Eggman successfully managed to get away with a group of them, using them as the battery to create his latest Badnik to add to his army - the Egg Chao (considering Dark Chao was already taken).

Eggman, being Eggman couldn't help but take various aspects of the cute little chaos and twist them for his own purposes. Since Chao can take the aspects of any creature they interact with, Eggman applied this to his latest badnik by encasing the innocent chao into a robotic chao badnik shell that has only one set form - himself, of course, yet another way for him to twist everything to his image.

The Chao, as expected takes design cues from Eggman, although it also has some very minor design additions from the Egg Pawns too, especially for the Chao's usual happy expression - yet another thing Eggman's twisted with this dastardly badnik.

The Chao still retains it's flight capabilities whilst trapped within this badnik, however it's not from their wings, but rather a very small, retractable jetpack that's attached to the badnik's back, coloured a shade of purple that's meant to be a cross between the regular pink of the chao's wings, and the dark purple of a Dark Chao's wings.

Meanwhile, for it's weapon, Eggman has weaponised the very way that a Chao expresses itself. Using state of the art hover technology, a spiked dot appears above the Egg Chao's head, in the shape of a buzzsaw. However, taking inspiration from Chaos, Eggman has taken attributes from an invention in the very early stages that he's been testing - a so-called Metal Virus, and applied it to the weapon, allowing it to change form (thankfully, it's nowhere near complete enough to infect anything...).

With this, the Egg Chao sports what Eggman has dubbed the Adapt Spike - a weapon that the Egg Chao can alter the shape of in order to create new hazards to take down Sonic and his friends. These being:

Buzzsaw: Drops onto the ground and revs up for a few seconds.

Boomerang Blade: The Egg Chao shapes the spike into a boomerang and tosses it towards Sonic, which will then return to the Chao after being thrown (or will smack to the ground and get stuck if Sonic jumps atop of it).

Marble Madness: The spikes are removed from the weapon, as the Egg Chao splits one dot into several of them, tossing them onto the ground as a scatter weapon - they won't damage Sonic, but they sure will trip him up!

Spike Explosion: The final mode of the Adapt Spike - the Egg Chao drops it onto the ground and it begins rapidly shaking, before the spikes shoot and scatter out of the dot in all directions, Sonic needs to watch out!

When the Egg Chao uses a weapon, it will be defenceless for a few seconds, as it 'reloads' - to which the point atop the Chao's head flips open, allowing for another Adapt Spike to hover out, before closing itself up again.

On top of that, much like Cheese in Advance, some variations of the Egg Chao are given a very specific and experimental jetpack, which allows them to go at even higher speeds compared to the regular variant - allowing them to chase after Sonic and attack him, much like Cream could order Cheese to do in Advance 2.

Created in the depths of Dr Robotnik's secret evil underwater volcano lab in outer space, the most vicious Badnik ever designed is about to begin it's reign of terror on the ring count of all hedgehogs, foxes and any other technicolor talking animals:

The Buzzflailer™ patrols the skies of any Eggman-owned airspace and flings its mace stinger like a bungee cord in the direction of the unlucky target, all without having to get close or waste ammo! It's the ultimate enemy.

Yes, it can only take one hit. No, I will not be taking any feedback.

I present you the latest invention of the Great Doctor Eggman: Shinobot!

904931215_Shinobot.png.d0bf9243f1d42f427b4f8bab6ce20a45.png

This cute kitten can launch buzzsaws which will roll on the ground and follow Sonic at insane speeds... BUT that's not all. Shinobot hides a very advanced holographic projector at the top of its tail! That's the most insidious weapon of this masterpiece.

It can generate an incredibly realistic illusion around itself, and when Sonic will enter the hologram, it will be too late for him! Shinobot will attack with its buzzsaws!

How does it work?

Shinobot's illusion extends for one tile. It can simulate a wall or a platform, or something else. When Sonic gets close, the hologram disappears and Shinobot will attack. The Buzzsaws will move by using Sonic's rolling physics, and they will disappear after about 1 second. They are fast, but can be outrun if you are even faster, else Sonic has to jump right before they hit him. When the illusion is gone, Shinobot won't hide anymore, it will start jumping around the area while launching buzzsaws both from land and mid-air (random, unpredictable); the badnik hops around its place but it's mostly stationary. Occasionally, it will also stand in a static pose, looking harmless. That's the most dangerous moment! If you attack Shinobot when it's in that state, it will teleport a little bit aside and dodge you, plus it will instantly counter-attack by launching a buzzsaw in your direction. You must be very smart if you want to destroy this badnik.

There are a couple of known issues though: the illusion occasionally shows some visual noise and can be spotted... it's a minor issue, Sonic will never notice, especially when he's running at full speed, GWAHAHAHA! And... well, the holographic projector does a weird sound which resembles a real cat purring... we're working on this, just wait for the next major update.

THE FLYING FLATTERY MASK

It's sole purpose is to fly through the air and latch itself onto the mouths of heroes like a face hugger. After doing so, it forces said hero to say the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth about this badnik's glorious, wonderful, and handsome leader; Dr. Eggman.

I call this guy, the sawnic cycle:

2115731423_soniccycle.thumb.png.2c2ffac4921efeb66b026f4e00850aff.png

They're had nine that chase sonic around on the stage but never catch up to him much to eggman's constant dissapointment. At the end of the zone, they merge together to form the sawnic tank:

van.thumb.png.2628a97d64fac6268d141886275632ad.png

Capable of sucking up rings and turning them into bullets. Sometimes the ammo fails and it shoots rings at sonic instead which leads to more dissapointment in eggman. If only he programmed it not to do the same thing all of the time.

Muscles Maximum was awarded the badge '[30 Days of Sonic 2022] Fan Art Hero Silver - Participated in three Fan Art Challenge activities' and 15 points.

Metal Big - aka E - B.I.G. Frog Catcher

Huge body and powerful hydraulics inside its frame for strength that matches the original. Soft, tough rubbery silicone-like covering on its arms to hide those hydraulics (and to feel soft like the originals fur). Strong, articulate ball jointed hands. Built in Life Belt, super durable fishing rod attachment to catch even the mightiest of sea dwellers.

Eggman may have blueprinted this behemoth after his trouble capturing a certain frog back during the Chaos Incident. Also for whenever he might get a craving for some fine home cooked sea food.

Hadn't checked this thread beyond the first couple so I wouldn't be influenced, but I ended up going for a similar angle (no pun intended) to Mechano!

What's that Sonic?  You thought it was an Item Box?  Why no, you'll need to be a tad more observant if you want to avoid getting blasted by one of Dr. Eggman's most dastardly badniks yet... The Fight-'em Box!

It'd be a foolproof design if only Eggman hadn't cheaped out and left them to paint the fake monitor appearance on themselves.  But do you have any idea how much it would cost to put a 4K TV screen on every single one of these things?

If Sonic approaches them from the side, a single arm will shove him back, but if you roll into them at high speed, they'll be toast.

This is "Fire Anton/Antsy"

52207298551_b63ca9016e_o.jpg

Fire Anton is a fire ant Badnik. They're Antons that have been fireproof parts, repainted red, and have been given tiny flamethrowers and special wheels that can also create fire.

Due to their wheels, they can only be destroyed by Spin Jumping on top of their heads or side attacks into their torso.

Flame Shields will allow characters to defeat them and be immune to their firepower. Also, Blaze can put them out just by thinking it.
