Looking strictly at Frontiers's gameplay, not giving Shadow flashy combat moves in the flashy combat focused Sonic game would be a huge waste. This is like, the one time where his chaos powers could be used without being redundant or killing the pacing. Why not play with that? Give him a completely unique skill tree with a mix of his powers from prior games and new ones.

Not arguing with that, but if this is actually the future of the franchise and not a one time thing, then I think it'd be better to design the next game with him in mind rather than fit him into one that wasn't. An alt skin in some inconsequential arcade stages is probably all the other characters are getting anyway.

Well, as things are, it can go either way.

They do seem to be putting quite a bit of dazzle on this, and so doubt they'd be tone deaf enough to waste the good will they're accruing by just making the the playable characters alternate skins, especially if they're taking the furthest into next year and potentially beyond to be released.

I agree with Indigo actually; we all know Shadow is prepped to be a major figure in 2024 with the advent of the third movie and out of every character, Sega almost always gives him preferential treatment. They know Shadow is a money-maker, no matter how much his fanbase bitch about his portrayals, they'll still buy/watch whatever product has him in it.

So it makes a lot more sense give him play a major role alongside Sonic in a completely new game, than just relegating him to side content in another game. Because let's be real, Sega are not going to give Tails, Knuckles or Amy the same treatment they would give to Shadow.

So, can we actually fathom a new spin-off game for the guy? Lol

Didn't Sonic Team/Sega say they aren't against third parties making Sonic games anymore? I wonder if they plan to allow someone to make a Shadow game in the near future.

Sonic Team will probably have their hands full with Frontiers/Frontiers 2, so what are the odds we start seeing Sonic games by other studios again?
