Should Shadow be a jerk?

Sure, it's fun. It makes him nuanced and complex when it's all a front to hide his good and noble qualities. Plus someone has to make Sonic look like a Saint. But maybe hea genuinely nice and humble to characters that are truly innocent like Cream or Charmy or Tails.

I don’t think the way Shadow acts is congruent with what Maria would want from him. However, we shouldn’t assume that he’s 100% beholden to her wish at this point. He’s egotistical, antisocial, and quick to seek vengeance, and clearly those qualities often usurp Maria’s prime directive.

It would be interesting to see a scenario where someone invoked her name to try to get him to do the right thing. Obviously he would get angry, but it might also make him think.
