Looks like that rumour about Sonic the Hedgehog being in the next Smash Bros game has reared its head again, only this time you should probably not take too much notice. This latest 'news' comes as part of an early prank in the April issue of US magazine EGM.

Sonic HQ reports that the upcoming issue of the monthly gaming magazine will claim that "Sonic & Tails are playable in Super Smash Brothers Melee if you score 20 KOs in cruel mode... it's not true, though." The magazine will include three screenshots, but these are fake.
