Michael Jackson and Sonic 3. It's finally confirmed

1. Do we know if he was even personally involved with it and not just someone licensing the music

2. There's a difference between seeing other people adapt your music and going to make your own. He was passive in Moonwalker, in Sonic 3 he got actively invested- which means the disappointment at the limits is equally more active and bigger.

I don't understand how the Genesis port of Moonwalker was allowed either if that's the case.

The music on Michael Jackson's Moonwalker was of already released Michael Jackson songs, not of original material Michael worked on specifically for the game. Michael would let other people remix and do their own little spins on music of his that he had already released all the time, so it's easy to see why he was fine with the Moonwalker game. With Sonic 3, on the other hand, he was creating new music specifically for the game. It's understandable why he'd have a problem; all that work he was doing was just for it to get watered down?

New info about Michael Jackson's involvement.

This is probably big enough to be given its own topic outside of the "Other Knowledge" thread, especially seeing how it's kinda relevant to this site. Jason was the one who originally made a post about it in there.

So Todd van Luling did a big article for the Huffington Post about Michael Jackson's involvement with Sonic 3. The first half of the article is just recounting what the community had already found out and the writer calling Sonic fans "Blues" for some reason, but the second half gets pretty interesting as that's where the writer's own research comes in. He contacted the people who were credited for working on the game's music and Brad Buxer, Doug Grigsby III and Cirocco Jones all got back to him and gave him details about the work Michael Jackson did on the game.

You can read about it here. If you want you can skip to the text after the image of the flashlight and a question mark, as everything before that is a summary of everything we already know.

At least we now know for sure some of MJ's music made it into Sonic 3.

genuinely don't know whether to buy this entirely considering the blues nonsense. regardless, it pretty much sounds like we were expecting. the holy grail at this point isn't so much confirmation MJ was involved and his music survived as it is "what tracks did he made" and "can we find the original demos"
