“Get your friends together and grab your Wii Wheel accessories for action-packed raucous racing. ExciteBots: Trick Racing takes the big-air thrills and simple controls of Excite Truck and ramps up the fun with a non-stop barrage of funky challenges and mini-games performed at blinding speed. You won’t believe your eyes when you find yourself shooting goals, throwing pies and even playing poker in the middle of racing robotic animals and insects around off-road tracks. “

That yellow car looks a bit like a 2020 version of Brum. XD

I found Excite Truck to be a preposterously good laugh. From first impressions it looks like they're throwing any notion of cool to the wind and going screaming down Route Fun with this. Could be wonderful. The graphics in the NP scans look pretty nice, too.

First trailer up on IGN:

WATCH THE MADNESS

It seems to be the racing from ExciteTruck mixed with minigames/challenges which you play during the race which is an interesting concept, but I hope it doesn't take too much away from the racing itself.

It also seems that they've kept the star point system from ExciteTruck, so I imagine you collect the stars during the race by doing stunts and various challenges during the race, and the person with the highest amount of points at the end wins.

I swear, they've taken the crazyness of Excite Trucks straight to its obvious conclusion. This game is gonna be insane.

I absolutely loved Excite Truck and would sing its praise to anyone.

I'd probably get this, hope it keeps the SD music feature...ohh and multiplayer actually needs competition..online play maybe? Either that or some AI pleasse.

New info from Nintendo Power!

This info comes from the latest issue of Nintendo Power. I’ll only be posting the info that’s new…

- control pad for continuous boost

- hold control pad too long and you’ll overheat

- more challenge modes than ExciteTruck

- online for up to six players

- more online details yet to be revealed

- unlock tracks/bots in Excite Race

- tutorial mode ‘School Cup’ must be completed

- complete five tracks in each cup (Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum) to move onto the next

- race tracks in any order

- need a B rank or higher to pass

- new tracks and some old ExciteTruck tracks return

- locations: Kilimanjero, Egypt, Canada, China

- as seen in trailer, there are red bars and yellow bars.

- yellow bars: “Once you reach a yellow bar, your bot grips onto it and instantly spins around at lightning speed, and you need to find the exact time to push your Remote forward so that your bot is released. The sooner you can push and release your bot off the yellow bar, the faster the release acceleration and the more points you earn. But if you push at the wrong time, your bot will tumble off the bar. The yellow bar requires instant concentration while at the same time adding even more speed to the race.”- Hiro Yamada, Supervisor at Nintendo and Richard Garcia, Team Lead and President of Monster Games

- red bars: “When your bot reaches a red bar, your bot automatically grabs it and starts to rotate around the bar at a very slow speed. Syncing your Wii Remote movement with your bot on the red bar is critical to increasing the speed of rotation. Spinning around the red bar 10 times releases your bot. [Just before a red bar] you’ll be racing at full speed, but once you reach it you’ll have to hold back your anticipation to carefully control your Remote, something which ultimately creates an intense change of pace in the gameplay.” - Hiro Yamada, Supervisor at Nintendo and Richard Garcia, Team Lead and President of Monster Games

- New attack items: Chomper Mouth (fake teeth that are shot and then latch onto opponent)

- Mini-games: Soccer goal kicks, darts, football field goals, pie throwing and more

- completing mini-games unlocks hidden items, such as new routes on tracks

- more on unlockables: “There will be numerous icons that can be unlocked one-by-one and then used for your profile, so that your friends and competitors can see the icon of your choosing during tournaments via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The most exciting is probably statues since you can collect a statue for each vehicle. By purchasing these unlockable statues, you’ll be able to admire your favorite bot from all angles. These new bots, icons, and statues can be purchased by stars that you earn throughout the game.” - Hiro Yamada, Supervisor at Nintendo and Richard Garcia, Team Lead and President of Monster Games

- techno-like soundtrack

The icons were probably inspired by Street Fighter IV. If I'm reading this correctly, then they might have accidentally let slip an online tournament feature. YEEEEESSSSS

Good news about online play, though I don't know how much I'll necessarily use that. Not sure about old tracks returning, I'd rather a raft of awesome new ones than a mix, but we'll see come release. Don't like getting forced to complete tutorial cups/stages in order to get to the meat of the game, but if it familiarises me with the new way to play the game then I suppose I have little reason for complaint.

More details, and IGN apparently love this game.

- bots have weight, grip, boost power, and boost longevity stats

- available from the start: frog, beetle, ladybug, bat, turtle, and grasshopper

- win races, get stars, unlock new bots

- four stock colors, seven unlockable ones, and one special design

- bots available for purchase at beginning of game: mouse, mantis, and hummingbird

- rubber-band bars act as a trampoline for more tricks

- question mark boxes morph terrain/open shortcuts/start micro-challenges

- only the person that opens the box gets the challenge

- bottle rocket can be used to boost

- hammer smashes the ground and causes shockwaves

- tambourine plays “Shave and a haircut” tune, but you have to tap A for the “two bits” part. Do so and earn stars

- collect wrench to transform into bipedal bot

- slam down left/right alternately to sprint

- hit ramps while running to transform into a glider bot

- tilt up for loft, tilt down for speed

- collect butterflies while gliding, land on a sunflower to get even more stars

- online mode: Poker Race mode - three specific tracks, each player given a hand of 5 cards while racing, select cards to swap-out with d-pad, run into cards to pick them up, press A to call your hand and cash it in, poker rules apply, and higher hand gets you more stars

- two specific control styles alongside Wii Wheel support

- SD music support from first game not in this build, not ruled out yet

- Egypt, Scotland, Mexico, China, Kilimanjaro, Finland and more

It's official, this game is running on pure fun, no matter how silly it is. I mean, Poker Racing. With animal robots that can already do crazy awesome shit. SD support or not, I'm getting this game.
