Doctor Who

It looks different, but it still reminds me more of the current version more than the simple retro ones. The ladders/balconies that seem to be there might make in-TARDIS action sequences a bit more interesting, though.

I still want to see the leopardskin theme. Rowr.

Ohhhh, loving the look of that new logo, better than the old one. And very retro indeed! Series 5 is going retro!

As for Season 2...I do agree that that was certainly the weakest of the new series. I hated hated HATED Love and Monsters. That episode bored me to effing tears man!

Dr. Who - The Anime!

First Video

This first video is like a proper 'making of', showing the stages this went through from pencil sketches to proper animation.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pBdJOwLp40

Here we see some Daleks having a blast.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JApUCaP7ubY

And finally a glimpse of the Doctor, his erm.. his anime babe companion, a U.N.I.T. unit, and some Cybermen.

I think it looks absolutely class, I'd definitely like to see something like this on my telly each week - they could even use existing former Doctor actors to voice the Doctor so they could tell stories set between established arcs.

While that does look nice I don't know how keen I'd be for an anime Doctor Who. Anime has never really spoken to me, t be honest. I'd probably watch it because it's Doctor Who, but I don't know if I'd buy the DVDs. It would have to be mind-numbingly good.

A Doctor Who anime could work. Though I like the sound of a Doctor Who manga better, one that retells the entire series. (You wouldn't need voices, for one thing)

I thought whoever did the brief voicing of the Doctor in the clips shown was pretty good.

All the clips were taken from previous episodes of the TV series.

I thought as much. If they could get voice actors who could replicate that sort of thing though, and I can't see that being too hard, it'd be awesome.

Edit: Waters of Mars is showing on Sunday November 15th at 7pm.

Oh yes! I read about that Doctor Who anime idea in NEO magazine a couple of months back. Now I see the actual animation though, I'm mighty impressed! =D

I think a Doctor Who anime would work, and a manga would be cool too.

Waters of Mars airs tonight at 7pm GMT in Britain. The Radio Times says:

The Doctor's death is approaching, and he knows it as he awaits the summons that will lead him to his doom. In the first of David Tennant's final three episodes, culminating in a two-part Christmas swansong, he is on Mars, trying not to think of the inevitable as he gatecrashes a research station run by formidable Adelaide (played by Lindsay Duncan). And this is where writers Russell T Davies and Phil Ford come up with something entirely unexpected. The Waters of Mars is a dark and thoughtful story that, though still family-friendly (kids will love its cute robot), explores very adult themes of loneliness, loss and the terror of mortality. David Tennant (and my, how he's grown in stature as an actor) is magnetic as a man who knows that the end is near, yet who cannot ease his grip on life. The epic battle he wages with his conscience is etched on his face as he reveals a side to the Doctor we've never seen before. What emerges is unsettling and sometimes harrowing. Anyone who has ever dismissed Doctor Who as a "kids' show", take note.

Gonna be a good watch!

Quite a wonderful episode, that was.

The only real flaw was the distinct lack of scariness of the Water people at the start, not helped by their completely ridiculous running motions; they should run like maniacs 28 Days Later-style, that would've made them more terrifying as opposed to the "HAY GUISE LOOK AT ME RUNNING" shit.

Overall though, it was splendid stuff, the sense of event was awesome, there were several quality speeches, The Doctor walking away as things went to shit was awesome, and then the rocket exploding and him flying through the air... that was awesome.

The timing of the TARDIS save seemed a bit off though. The Doctor turning heel at the end was a great moment.

The Christmas special looks excellent too, The Master returning is wonderful news, and I'm so glad Rose didn't rear her head.

9/10, I'd say.

Excellent episode, MUCH better than the last one. And I daresay the saddest episode yet (not scariest though). I mean, I didn't cry or anything but it was so upsetting when the Doctor walked off whilst everything was blowing up and going to hell, and the end too when

Brooke committed suicide.

Now I really can't wait to see what happens next, especially when the Master returns! Pew~ Like Pat, I give this ep a 9/10.

After reading the episode description, I really hope it airs here in the US soon. It looks to be a very good episode from what I'm reading.

I too would love to see a Doctor Who anime. It would be very interesting to see how it would all work out.

Edit: I watched the animated video that was posted earlier in the topic? I have to say it was very well done!

I liked the relatively dark twist the ending had, I must say.

I liked how he suddenly went all ego-trip near the end, although that sort of backfired and lasted the best part of two minutes. It's kind of a shame actually, if you think about it, The Doctor never really *has* any actual character development. Would have been nice for him to go all god-complex for maybe one series, and have that all come crashing down at the end, rather than within minutes of it happening. I actually think Doctor Who is too episodic for its own good, at times.

I just. Wow.

The writing in that episode hooked me on I must say. I was always a little doubtful at the time (Before it was released). But. WOW.

I think in reality a whole series of the Doctor pratting about with time would be less interesting than it sounds.

But yeah, my view on the ep was pretty much the same as everyone else. A bit of Russel T Davies' patented brand cheesiness made it in there, but the rest was great, and the ending was very daring and unexpected (though totally made sense of course).

Those last few minutes sure made up for a lot. The episode was only okay up 'til then, but it really ramped up in quality at the end. The dialogue during the Doctor's power trip was just great. My expectations for The End of Time have been raised a fair bit.

Anybody else afraid that the words "The Time Lord Victorious" will be repeated a thousand times in the last two specials?

Probably seen as The Master is back.

Am I the only one who thinks that since there were no ill effects of the Doctor changing a fixed point in time that the Time Lords have had a hand in it? Cuasing Adalide to die so that the Reapers wont return.

You know, the thing I can't shake, the fact that they keep saying "Your song is ending soon."

Now the doctor being the doctor, he sounds really worried that he's going to die, but... he's had one close call already with regeneration, and Captain Jack actually wished him good luck the last time...

So why is he so worried... unless... Your song is ending soon doesn't mean regeneration, it means something else, and it's going to be a bit of a twist that we're not fully expecting...

Mind you given how dodgy some of the twists are I wouldn't put it past them to make it just the regeneration.

Well remember in Journey's End when The Doctor averted his regeneration and he said "I love being me" maybe he's scared of regenerating and becoming someone else - as he so often does - either that or he literarly takes "Your song is ending" to mean that he will die for real.
