Knuckles' Chaotix Isolated Island, anyone?

Looks to be Sunset Dash, the name they gave to Act 3. All of Chaotix does that actually. Marina Madness at night is bea-uuu-tiful.

The Sonic acceleration thing isn't an issue, he's going no faster than a classic game there.

I don't see it. He gains extremely fast before he takes the hit from Motobug. But the biggest hint is the lift he gets off the first curve in terrain.

As for the homing attack, we don't see nearly enough of it to make a judgement. I'm almost certain that the move he's trying out on the last spring-loop is not the homing. The homing emits a small blue circle when he rebounds to the first spring. The one on the spring-loop is more like a small gold loop. New move?

I also found another something that needs fixing. The player's got four rings when he take a hit, and drops six. He picks up three of those six.

Looking at it again I kind of like the way he's thrown to the back of the loop. From the roller coasters I've been on that seems like where the most force should be. Who knows what kind of effect that'd have on 16-bit physics though. I'm pretty sure Sonic operates by different rules.

The person was able to stand at both 45 degree and 90 degree angles to the ground. If they were holding right and that was just able to keep them in place at 45 degrees, it wouldn't have done the same at 90.

I could have sworn he was moving slowly backwards at that second part.

The only thing about this that seemed especially peculiar to me is when he had to jump on that spring 4 times before he could get into that loop.

I still have the tab up on my laptop and I don't have any intentions of refreshing. It's chillin there for the time being. I think Gonintendo still has an article up on it with the video though.

Thanks Blackarms. Damn that guy really sucks I mean gosh, can't even get up the freakin hill, What the hell man haha. Anyways looks good so far except that wierd SUPER JUMP at the beginning and the old school music. Those are my biggest complaints and the crappy player. Give me the controller and watch what i'll do with it....

He was walking in place while horizontal.

The business with the spring was thanks to the homing attack.

^ Like I said, A CRAPPY PLAYER.

Why is it that you assume this player is trying to get through the level as quickly and efficiently as possible?

That guy kept pressing the jump button. Even after he went off the diagonal spring, he homing attacked it again for no reason. It really is mostly the players fault.

About the physics: They just need to increase the gravity a little bit and decrease his acceleration, other than that and the slope problem, this game seems pretty solid. It seems better than 06' already; now they have to shoot for better than Heroes and Shadow...

I really don't think it's using the Sonic Rush physics engine. If it were, he would've been able to climb that upward hill from the base of that quarter pipe.

That's how I'm seeing it, at least.

Never said I was. I was just sayin that he/she was a crappy player. Stuff any of us would've easily pass gotten through that player struggled, and the motobug thing was well place in my opnion. (now i know where to spindash :P) I mean come on who would really bounce off the spring that many times just cause?

I'm waitin..

Anyways....

That...

Genuinely looked... like a classic Sonic game...

I... I'm going to need a minute here.

Even for an alpha, the game just looks next to perfect already. Decrease some speed, and make him fall faster. Hell, even if they kept it with that kind of physics it would be a more minor thing.

I almost cried when he jumped on the bottom of the monitor and it bumped up. I don't care about "rehashes" I care if it'll play well and it damn well looks like it will

Uhh...mods? I think we have a problem... I'm trying to give this guy more than one +1, but I can't seem to do so.... any way you can fix this problem?

:P

Close enough to the classic titles for me. I am curious as to how I will judge it as a DL title (I may be more forgiving on some things) but if the whole game channels the mojo as well as that section than I won't have too.

I did cringe at the inconveniently placed motobug though. Truly a staple of the franchise.

Fuck me you're a bunch of knobs sometimes "oh boohoo this looks like a rehash (this looks like a classic game)" get FUCKED. a rehash of sonic's GOLDEN AGE is exactly what this franchise needs.

Apart from some of the obvious physics problems, I have no new complaints. It looks fairly solid.

Mad Gear is a really awesome name for a level, I must say, and from the higher-quality screenshots Lost Labyrinth looks fairly unique. I can't say I'm ecstatic about Casino Street, though I'll reserve judgment for when I've seen it properly.

I didn't exactly see much water in Splash Hill, though. You'd think there'd be a puddle or two around at the beginning, if only to justify the name.

Anyone notice the Buzzer looking Badnik at 0:51? Listen for the shooting sound, you can see him briefly on the top of the screen.

I think you've got it backwards. He's stuck because it's using the Sonic Rush physics:

A little note I just noticed. In the Lost Labyrinth Zone I do spot a Sonic Advance styled thing there. I believe coming from the ceiling is falling Boulders (like angel Island from that game) which makes me happy since I loved that trap for Sonic... XD

Seriously, if this game is like a mixture between Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic 2, Sonic Advance, and Sonic Rush Adventure (or Rush... I just prefer the sequel) then I would be the happiest Sonic fan in the world.

The game looks okay, but not really impressive, and with Dimps on helm (even though I really enjoyed their Rush games), I don't have much confidence in how this will turn out. It probably won't be terrible but the game reminds me a lot of Sonic Advance, which was a dullfest bonanza.

I actually liked Advance. Also Advance came out like 10 years ago, I'm sure they could have improved since then and might be going for something much more classic. Also for all we know SEGA and Sonic Team might have much more involvement in this than we think. Apparently according to the sites interviews and all people from Sonic Team are working on this game. Dimps may just be a big development team part of it.

Tylinos on Sonic Retro posted this:

Or a slightly bigger version:

splashhillact1medium2.png

Just putting that out there. They also posted bigger versions:

http://img30.imageshack.us/img30/8158/splashhillact1part2.png

http://img716.imageshack.us/img716/9003/splashhillact1part4.png

I posted it here because it is interesting and shows us what we know of the level design so far. Actually I'll be honest, the levels to me look more classic styled than Rush, just the mechanics seem more Rush right now, but hey that may just be for testing purposes.
