Well, at least I now know Endri is still active, I haven't seen him on MSN for two months.

Honestly, whether the leak is true or not, the only thing I really wouldn't believe is that the game is complete. They can submit it to whatever they want for "approval," but it doesn't mean that they still aren't working on fixing up bugs for the game. Sheesh.

I mean no offence to anyone involved but I find this whole story very hard to believe. Sega has already stated that the game will be released mid this year, assuming that Sonic 4 isn’t delayed for some reason. It makes no sense for the game to be ready now, no developer operates on such an insane and inefficient schedule. Once a game is finished it is pushed out the door at the first opportune moment, this is the harsh truth of the video game industry. Sega would not be resting of their laurels if they had a brand new Sonic game finished and ready for release, least of all a game of such significance of Sonic 4. Based on what we know of the game I can calming state as fact that Sonic 4 is still very much in development and not ready to be showed of here.

Even entertaining such foolish notions of Sega revealing the game now, I do think it is strange that ‘Endri’ would get chosen at all. I’m not attacking Endri’s character, far from it, I merely think that he is far from the most likely candidate for this job. Just think about this scenario from Sega’s perspective. Assuming Sega wants to publicise the game in such a round about way, they would want to gain the maximum exposure from the least amount of effort. Frankly, in the eyes of Sega, Endri – who makes fan games – isn’t really that important within the fanbase as whole. If Sega wanted to show the game to the fans, they would go straight to Dreadknux or the guys at Seganerds/Segabits. Sega would also provide that lucky fan with some sort of press kit, so that they could prove their claims immediately. This whole affair just isn’t very professional.

In response to what Kintor said: SEGA just went on a deleting rampage like 2 days ago off of some leaked footage. Why would they go so hard to delete that footage only to have someone put up more footage 2 days later. Besides, who's to say he didn't just look at the leaked footage for a while and make everything up based off of what was presented in the leak? the moon jump, he probably thought the 1st level resembled splash hill and the casino could also easily be seen in the level select screen shot. I'm not out right saying he is lying but I'm not believing it until I see proof or I play the game myself, which ever one comes first.

I found most of his complaints reasonable until he goes into a frothing rage at the end. From the leak footage the jumping looked weird but I doubt its enough to break the game. Or at least I hope not.

After seeing the leaked video, I will say that I do agree with the jumping issue. However, that all I'm going to agree on. I'm gonna wait until I can play the game to formulate my own opinion. Hell, that's what I've done for the longest time, and I don't know why others are bashing or glorify this based on one person's opinion.

Oh hey W.A.C. Saw you on thebackalleys some time ago. Nice to see some slightly positive and reasonable stuff there.

Playtest, true or not, In a way I saw this coming but as a guy who somewhat enjoyed Sonic Advance 2 I couldn't give a shit, and I've gotten to the point where I don't really care for trivial stuff as numbers next to a game character's name.

Legacy schmegacy. I never wanted Sonic to go back to his roots. I wanted him to make a good game.

Alright, time to lighten the mood, now. When I saw the shortened topic title from the forum index, it cut off right after the second "u", so I actually thought, "Sonic 4 Playtested By Communists"?

Get it?

Also, I know I'm just going to be called out beating the dead horse here but I just want to point this out to the people saying final build and all that shit;

Playtest? Playtests aren't usually "full games" being showcased you know.

I find it strange that people are wishing so much ill on him when he's not really benefiting from doing it.

I doubt most people here, who keep attacking him, even really know him and just treat him like the scapegoat for all this. As if it's somehow his fault that the playtest sucked.

I can't really help but laugh my butt of to all of this. Honestly, from the point where I heard which people were developing this, my expectations were toned down a notch or two. Although I am slightly disappointed by the article, I can't help but feel like this is no surprise.

Honestly, all people here who keep arguing that the game "might still be good" or the "article is PROBABLY just full of shit" are really just trying to convince themselves that they can still expect something half-decent somehow, even though the developments until now have repeatedly kicked them in the face. I don't think it makes much sense, it's actually rather sad.

But I would really feel outraged really disappointed if this turns out to be a lie, I mean, lying to the whole community? And lying to your friends!?

That's way too low... :(

Au contraire, the reactions are exactly the best part about it. :3

Trolling is a common thing on the internet nowadays. :D

This is a horrible arguement, considering the impression gave off that when/if the physics shape up it will play out as a Sonic Advance 2 which mind you is one of the best concieved Sonic games in the 2000's, not by fandom but by general popular opinion.

And I personally enjoyed Sonic Advance 2 as well. If it plays out like it then hey, I'm not to complain.

Totally agree with you here. Besides the whole advance series and also the rush series was meant to be played exactly like the classics, forget the speed boost, forget the sound barrier breaking gimmicks. It was a pure 2D Sonic games at heart.

I can't believe that fans have stooped so low that they want a playtester fired because he gave his honest opinion that says the game they've been waiting for may in fact may not be all roses and be the usual crap Sega's been putting out.

"WAH, this guy actually played it and says it in fact sucks? FIRE HIS ASS FOR HIS LIES!!!"

*sigh*

He made various posts after his 'reveal' but has yet to mention anything about the first boss fight and other things. I want to know about item boxes, star posts etc. He mentioned something about the special stages being selectable in the stage select. In that case, collect all the emeralds and inform us whether or not Super Sonic is playable. Every time he's asked about the game, he ignores the questions. Now he's attempting to worm his way out of posting footage/screens etc because he'll get in trouble. Other people have posted leaks, so just post it and then we'll know for sure.

Hmn... OK, I reread it. I will try to stay as unbiased as I can, and mention something which is obvious...

80% of all he said could of been taken straight out of the leaked gameplay video. He skips mentioning such things as the boss fight and level mechanics, enemies, items, and doesn't even go into detail about the stages besides what they LOOK like, which you can see in the trailer. He also made a big deal about holding right and coming to walls abruptly... Which is also exactly what we saw in the leaked gameplay (with the added enemies, springs, secret passage, and items). He talks about the physics exactly as we have seen them there, and then mentions the ERSB has already rated the game... Which we already KNEW because there is an ERSB rating in the official trailer! The only thing he mentions that's even slightly new is how the Special Stages work with tilting themselves, but then that could have just been a guess, he doesn't go overly into detail about them either, which is strange because he mentions a lot of the "detail" we already have seen in the gameplay. Throws in a bit about Spin dashing... Besides the motion control special stages and spin dashing, we've all seen this already,

I know, risk of him loosing stuff, but all that has been mentioned sounds... Fishy... I don't know, not just the part of me that hopes this is not true, this sounds like the formulaic trolling to take what we know but go into extreme detail about it, then add a few things to spice it up but be broad enough on some specifics and make a few claims to cause merit. And now with him pushing back posting proof... I don't know...

That's what I noticed too. The special stage bit HAS actually been seen officially, in the latest trailer. From what we see, the stage is rotating about in a player controlled fashion. So once again it's something he could have culled from the existing info. Note too that he hardly touches on Casino Street and claimed to have not played the other two zones.

As for this:

I'm all for firing his ass if he LEAKS anything, which he pretty confidently is claiming he will do today. He seems to think he will not only leak video, but also code for others to play it. That's not only fireable, it's illegal.

It's going to be awfully funny when this game gets great reviews and everyone likes it but the fanbase. Funny in a sad way.

I'm pretty worried about the comparisons to Advance 2's level design. The physics didn't really bother me in that game, just the dash running and the boring level design. However, I find it pretty hard to believe that Splash Hill is like Leaf Forest after seeing the leaked footage. That was absolutely nothing like Sonic Advance 2 level design. Gonna have to see video proof before I believe something like that.

Downloadable games have a development cycle of 6 months to a year. It is perfectly acceptable that the game might by near complete by now.

Again, innocent until proven guilty. At least you guys in here are a bit more reasonable about doubting him than the front page people. The crowd the usually comments there is a bunch of 12-year olds.

@blackarms

Good point. For someone who's apparently played up to the Casino Zone, he gives very few details. What the bosses are like and what enemies appear in the zones are very basic details that would easily this more believible. Not like that stuff is big enough for a language barrier either.

Well, guess there's to do but wait for his footage.

Well, our good friend Endri has come and gone from the Retro board with no post. Where's our code and screens and video and free Xboxes???

Given Sega are actually answering what the fanbase and media have be requesting as opposed to what the classic games are I see no surprise here. It'll probably still be solid nonetheless.

Advance 2 was pretty solid and was actually the well received out of the 3 (or at least to the same level as Advance)so I can't picture this being dubbed 'shit' by the media at least. Either whatever happens sme people will like it, others will hate it. That was always going to be the case.
